Happy Fourth of July

I want to wish everyone a Happy fourth of July. I hope everyone has a good time and stays safe. Remember not to drink and drive. Be careful with the fireworks as well. We don’t want anyone losing body pieces and such. I am off to have a lil fun myself and no I am not driving as I intend to get a lil crunk.

Sweet little machine that makes music

I can remember years ago when my mother brought home a large, electric organ. It was amazing how there were some buttons and pedals that she could push to make the instrument sound like a snare drum, or a trumpet, or a variety of instruments that I never would have thought would come out of something that looked so much like a piano! When I was looking at the zoom drums & percussion machine online today, and was reading about all of the things it can do, it brought back memories of my mother playing and demonstrating that electric organ the first day that she brought it home. Music has evolved so much since then – it really is amazing!

Play me some rock and roll!

I can remember when I was younger, I wanted to learn how to play the guitar. I had my eye on a beauty of a guitar, and spent a lot of time day-dreaming about being up on stage, singing and playing to a large, appreciative audience. Little did I realize how painful it would be to my finger-tips, to learn to push down on the guitar strings in order to play the different notes! I’ll admit, I wimped out after only a couple of months of practicing. I’ll never be that rock and roll star, but I’ll always enjoy rock and roll music!

Strange Cartoons

Last night I spent a few minutes at my neighbors house. Her 3 year old was watching cartoons on the TV in the living while we visited. I couldn’t help but notice some of the cartoon dialogue.

I have to say that these cartoons are a little strange and it bothers me that children are watching them. I don’t see why cartoons for small children should have any reference to college age pranks, like panty raids. In my opinion, this is not appropriate for young children to hear and how would children even know what a panty raid is? Too strange and very disconcerting.

Bargain Bin Movies

At Wal-Mart there was a big bin of movies priced at $5 each, so I took a look. There were a bunch of titles of movies there were big hits in the 1980’s and 1990’s. I thought it might be good to pick up a few kids movies and a couple sci-fi movies to have onhand in case of a rainy weekend. for $5 each, it was easy to find several and not spend very cash.

No Chess

Most of the games that I play are on the computer and online, but I decided that it would be nice to have a chess set in the house. So at WalMart I looked in the toy section and even with 12 aisles of toys and games, I could not find a chess set. I guess WalMart does not attract the smart people who like to play chess and other intellectual games.

Having the Talk

There has never been a good outcome for me when someone (whether friend, family, co-worker, or boss) has told me, “We need to talk.” When I hear that I want to run right home, crawl into bed and pull the covers up over my head!

My mother had a unique way of bringing up a problem. She would say, “I have a bone to pick with you.”

Movie Night

Tonight I wanted to watch a movie and just chill out, but I couldn’t decide what to watch. I have a good collection of DVDs with a variety of genres, but nothing sounded appealing. So I turned to the On Demand listings and scrolled through the listing of free movies. They have an oldie but goodie on the list, a movie starring Cher and Wynonna Ryder called, “Mermaids.” So I think that’s what It will be for me tonight. Mermaids and popcorn.

I love the new silent instruments

Back when I was in school, taking band, there was no such thing as a silent electric instrument of any kind. At least, not that I’m aware of! When a kid decided to learn how to play an instrument, everyone in the house got to listen the that kid practice, whether they wanted to hear it or not! I was really pleasantly surprised recently when I learned that almost any and every instrument ever made now seems to have a silent version – like the silent electric yamaha violin at WWBW that I found online a few minutes ago. I think that it’s fantastic that now people can learn how to play an instrument without driving everyone in the house crazy!

Happy Birthday Donna

A good friend of mine is celebrating her birthday today. She doesn’t usually make a big deal about it, but I found out last year and made a note on my calendar so I wouldn’t forget. It’s not a big “0” year, but it’s her special day. So, Happy Birthday, Donna! I hope you have a wonderful day!
