Broadway Plays

It seem like forever since I’ve seen a Broadway play. I used to go to the theater a lot. I love acting, plays, movies – the whole thing. I was in our school plays all the way through junior high and high school. I miss that.

The current shows at our local theater are not the plays that I have an interest in. I guess I will have to take a trip to a major city for a culture enhancing weekend and see a good play out of town. It is relatively easy to go to Atlanta or Chicago from here, for just a weekend getaway. Or maybe I’ll totally splurge and go to New York City!

Bad Russell

I think Katy is the cutest thing and the most fun singer out there. I love her outrageous costumes and sassy attitude.

I think her hubby was wrong to take this photo of her with no makeup and a very unflattering pose, then put it on the internet. That is like bullying in my mind, and that is not what a loving husband would do to his wife.

But even in this photo, I think she is beautiful. I am sure she would prefer to be seen with her makeup on and her hair done, but there is nothing wrong with how e looks without it. I love Katy, with makeup on or off!

Tuscany

Movie lines always stick me with long after the movie ends. Sometimes I remember a couple of key lines better than the names of the actors and actresses.

I watched Under the Tuscan Sun last night. It was absolutely intriguing to follow the main character through her healing process or rebirth by moving to Italy on a whim. One of the lines that I really like follows the main character’s discovery that a man who was blatantly flirting with her is married. Her friend reassures her, “Flirting is a ritual in Italy. Just enjoy it.”

Remembering SRV

Wow – twenty years ago there was a terrible helicopter crash in Wisconsin and Stevie Ray Vaughan was killed. I was just a little kids, but I remember my mom and dad talking about it, in hushed tones. They were really upset about it.

Now that I know more about music and great guitar players, I can understand the impact of his death. Stevie Ray was a great guitarist and his story is intriguing. He had beaten his addiction to drugs and was on an upswing in his career and personal life and then got killed in a freak accident. What a terrible shame.

Dicks Last Resort

I was excited to hear from my girlfriend in Maryland that Dicks Last Resort has opened a place in Baltimore. I am sure it is in the Inner Harbor area – that’s where all the action is in Baltimore.

This is a fun place to go have some beers and hoot and holler. I can’t wait to go check out their newest location and have some fun.

CMA Week

This week is big time for Nashville. CMA week brings in a ton of country music artists for concerts and fan club meetings. There are free shows and activities downtown during the day, and then each night there is a big concert at the Titans stadium with all the major acts. I would love to see Carrie Underwood perform live – that is my goal this week.

Ernest Tubb on the Radio

Q. What radio show did Ernest Tubb begin broadcasting from his Nashville record store in 1947?

A. The Midnight Jamboree – now the second longest running radio show in America (second only to the Brand Old Opry.)

Live MMA

This weekend will be a big first for Nashville. We are hosting a Mixed Martial Arts competition and it will be broadcast live on CBS. There has been a lot of hoopla downtown with the fighters here. They are having press conferences and public appearances at all the downtown clubs. I’m not a big fan of any kind of fighting, so I’m not planning on going to the fights. There are a lot of guys from the office who have tickets and are going to make a big night of it. Oh well, I’ve got plenty of other things to keep my attention.

Can’t Sleep

Usually I am fast asleep by the time Craig Ferguson comes on the air, or at the latest I’m asleep right after his monologue. I love the Craig Ferguson show, but it comes on so late, that I just cannot stay awake long enough to watch the whole show. But tonight I am wide awake – and Craig Ferguson is not on over the weekends. Darn the luck!

Drug Company Commercials

It seems like we are being slammed with commercials by drug companies, especially for Lupitor and Chantix. The style of commercial is a testimonial by a typical user talking about how much their lives have been improved since using the product. The companies are using non-Hollywood types to do the testimonials and are even putting a small disclaimer on the screen that these people talking “are not actors.” Right. They might not be members of the actors guild, but I am sure they are reading a script and getting paid for their appearance in the ad. In my book, that makes them actors.
