The garage

We decided to buy some acoustic foam for the garage walls, since that is where my son practices the most. Now that he is forming a band and they will be here most of the time as we have the only garage that is available for them. The foam should muffle the loudest of the sounds and keep things down to a dull roar. I know that the neighbors will appreciate this greatly.

Top 10 Simple Ways to Discourage Break-ins

We all want to protect our homes from those who would invade them to steal our belongings and our peace of mind. Sometimes that can be expensive, depending on the method we choose. There are lots of way to help prevent break ins. This article on Howstuffworks.com can give you tips on ten different ways to achieve this. It is a good read and definitely worth the time. I have already implemented a few of the ideas myself, in my own home.

Geodesic dome greenhouse

I am thinking of building one of these geodesic dome greenhouses. I was going through the materials that I have put aside and will only have to actually purchase a few things to make it work. The main thing would be the vsiqueen sheeting. Fortunately, it is relatively in expensive. I found several different models to choose from and I think this picture best represents what the finished product will be.

I will put it in a half shaded area similar to this one and the Orchids I want to grow in it should do well. I will not start building until I do a little more research and make sure that it is exactly what they need to thrive.

I hope to have many different breeds of Orchid, with lots of colors. I was reading about cross breeding them over the last few months in preparation and I am encouraged by what I have read.

The basic premess is not that difficult and I do have a green thumb, so I don’t anticipate any problems. I will try to remember to post pictures of them once I get it going really well. Wish me luck!

Winter is coming to a close

However, it is not soon enough for me. I really am happy that the cold weather seems to be letting go it’s hold of us. Not that we wont have more later, but for now a few nice days are definitely a plus. I think I will do a little yard work. There are a few projects that I would to get started on before spring arrives.

I am going to build a new green house for a crop of Orchids. I love Orchids and I plan to try my hand at growing them this year. I have always wanted a small green house to grow delicate blooms like that in, so I will build it myself. I found a bunch of different ways to build one with used materials and be totally green. No pun intended. *smiles*

The most awesome website ever

I love this site. This woman is amazing in the house and home genre of blogging. She has built an entire business around it, complete with a show on the Food Network now. She is the Pioneer Woman. Her name is Ree and I just love going to her page for new recipes and ideas. I have thought from time to time about home schooling when I have kids one day, but I am not sure that I have the temperament for that. I keep up with her blog on homeschooling though because I have learned from my sister about how horrible the schools have gotten around here. It is a thought I will not throw out for the moment though. Anyway, I thought I would share with you all and I hope you like this page as much as I do.

A little DIY for the girls

So here is a little video on how to make stands to hold your fashion jewelry. I found it very easy to make and cheap as well. We all love to get those little items from yard sales that no one else really wants, and here is a good use for some of them. With very little effort, you can make this and have all of those accessories up and out of those boxes that clutter your dresser. It makes it much easier to find what you are looking for if it is up and in plain view. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
