Surprise Visit

Just got a call from my friend, Connie, and it was good news! She and the kids are coming through on their way to St. Joseph’s and want to spend a day hanging out. That will be awesome! I haven’t seen Connie is ages.

Maybe we can go to the community pool for the day and just cool off in the water instead of being cooped up in the house for the sake of air conditioning. My only concern is whether her daughter will enjoy that, as she recently broker her arm and its in a cast. Of course we want to include her and make she she has a good time, too.

Whatever we do will have to be planned around some way to beat this awful summer heat. Can you believe it hit 100 degrees again today?

Storms brewing

We here,  like most people are enduring or trying to endure sweltering hot weather the best we can. I must say though that people’s tempers are short and there are so many warnings about staying inside. I had to go to the store and noticed that the frozen food section was even unusually crowded, which lead me to believe that folks were hanging out just to keep cool, not to shop. Pretty sad. The weather report however is calling for some severe storms to start moving in. Hopefully it will cool things off. The only thing I’m a concerned about, as unpredictable as the weather has been, the storms will bring with it, tornadoes.

Shades of Oz?

We finally got the rain everyone has literally been praying for in these parts. Early this morning we had some hellacious winds, thunder and lightening. I was having my morning tea in my office and looked out the window in time to see the neighbor’s storm door fly off it’s hinges and go hurling across the yard. I must admit that the scene from Wizard of Oz flashed through my head…the one where the screen door went flying when Dorthy tried to open it. While looking outside, I did however notice it suddenly got very quiet, and everything looked sort of green. Like a green haze was in the air. Even as a kid living why out in BFE country, we were taught when we see that green haze, to take cover. Fortunately,  things settled down and then it cooled off considerably. This is not to say that we are still having some major storms heading this way again later on. I’ve decided not to worry about it though. I figure the Big Guy is ticked off and disappointed with the whole world and he and Mother Nature, are in cahoots as far as the weather goes. My motto… Be prepared for anything now a days, where the weather is concerned.

Finding Alexa!

I’m contemplating looking at new custom address plaques. I’ve looked at a large variety and never knew there were so many to choose from though. Here is the kicker…I have a perfectly good mail box, with my name on it, and also the house number that the County gave out to residents. They are the kind that are mounted on the mail box post and have numbers that sort of reflect and glow in the dark. I personally think they look rather tacky, and people still drive right by the house, but hey, they were free.

I still haven’t made up my mind what kind of plaque I want, as there are so many residential address plaques to choose from. I have a hard time making up my mind what kind of pants I want to wear on any given day, so choosing something like this takes a lot of thought.

I did find some really cool Whitehall address plaques that I love. They have just the right amount of class without being over the wall with it, and they also compliment my house and gardens also. I’ll be pouring over plaques until I find just the right one though, I imagine. Until I do find one that I can’t live without, I’m having fun looking at them all!

Summer cold and ickys

I fought hard but have come down with the one and only (I hope) summer cold I generally get. I’m saying I hope, because so many of my friends have been complaining that they get a cold, get over it, only to catch another virus again. Right now, all I want to do is wrap up in my blankie, but unfortunately it is about 98 degrees outside and feels like it is at least that temp inside also. A great rain storm would be very welcome right now. 🙁

A dreaded migraine

I rarely get headaches, but I came down with a migraine yesterday, to beat all headaches. I’ve heard of people getting them, but never have had one, and truth be known, I so very much feel for folks that have these type of headaches on a consistent basis. I tried some herbal remedies that seemed to help a bit, but I also turned off all the noise in the house, hung blankets on my bedroom windows and suffered through it all. My poor dogs knew something was wrong and tried to “help” by kissing and trying to do the dog hug thing. Bless their little animal hearts. I slept for about 13 hours, and am feeling better now, but I never ever want to experience this again. Ouch!

A great place for plants!

Awhile back I was thinking about how I have been running out of room for all my plants and flowers and also that my house needed some kind of sort of finishing touches. I decided to check out some window boxes. I’m not sure if I’m going to get anymore, as I do indeed have a few, but it was cool checking them out along with all the other various containers to plant in. I do however have to, or actually want to have more space for my living friends.

While browsing I did come across some items I really liked. I loved the idea of garden window boxes, that I actually thought I could plant my herbs in, that seemed to be actually becoming a ground cover in my garden. I thought that they would look nice trailing out of the box itself, and also thought about adding some smaller flowers in with the herbs.

Since I already have a few window flower boxes, I looked at those to see if I could find some that matched. And even if I couldn’t, who cares? I could mix and match them evenly to make a unique look and since it’s my house and what I like, who cares if there might be questions about why I didn’t have boxes that didn’t exactly match one another. I’m not into the normal things like some picky gardeners are. Next spring the neighbors will no doubt be looking over here to see what I am going to add next to my gardens and they may be surprised at what they see!!

The hot weather I asked for!

Well, I have to say that I am finally getting the hot and humid weather I have asked for. While everyone is complaining about the heat and the humidity and my dogs are moping around looking for a cool place to hang out, I’m in seventh heaven knowing that this won’t last as long as I would like it to. In the mean time, I’ve put out water with ice for the animals, give them special cool dishes that they will eat, instead of dog food and I remember how much I hate the cold winters here and that I am miserable though them. Actually with the ceiling fans going and the box and floor fans on, it’s really not too bad in the house. I hear people who complained about the cold all winter now complaining about the heat we are having now. It never ceases to amaze me when I hear this. Me? I’m just enjoying it all.

BET’s Game is back!

Guest written by our friend, Mario Reed.

There are so many shows that I watch on television, but I have to say that one of my most favorite shows is the new series of The Game on BET. I am so glad that they have decided to bring the show back after what seemed to be an endless season of being off the air. The show has picked up right where it has left off since the finale and I am right back into the grove of things with my apple turnovers and side of vanilla bean ice cream. They have added some new people to the show, making it more exciting than ever, but the old main cast that I have grown to love are still there. I hope that this show stays on as long as possible this time around, for I will remain a big fan of this http://www.directstartv.com premium channel. BET is one of my favorite channels and now that they have my favorite show on there too, it is a blast for me every Tuesday night. I think that as long as the shows premieres every week, it will be my ritual to watch with my snacks handy and the remote locked in. I think that I will even throw a The Game Party,  to get my friends involved because all we do is call each other after the show to recap. At least we can all go over the show in front of each other.

A new tattoo!

Yes folks, I tend to like skin illustrations, as sometimes they are called. They say that tattoo’s are habit forming and I am here to tell you that they are. A friend of mine is visiting from Oregon and owns three tattoo shops there. He is good at his “craft” and a wonderful artist. I figure if I’m to get another one, I would rather have him tattoo me, since I trust him fully and have watched him in action, so to speak. So, the time as come for another one. Once it is done, I will post a photo. I’m thinking about getting something on the Celtic side, with maybe a rose or something inked in. We will see. I’ve been kicking it around for a long time, so I won’t regret it later on. I can’t wait to visit with my friend also. We haven’t seen one another in a very long time. It should be a great visit, and I’m really looking forward to it. 🙂
