An idea for Christmas

I’ve been doing some research into something a friend told me about, which is self catering holidays for Christmas. All of my friends and family know I’ve always wanted to go to Scotland. So of course when I heard about this idea, my ears perked up and that is when the research started. It would be great to have a holiday there. It seems to me that even though our family is large and used to spend Christmas together, over the years now we go to my Mom’s house on different days during the holidays.

I’ve looked at some travel guides and even though I haven’t asked my Mom what she thinks of the idea, I’d like to takeĀ  her with me. Even if it is just for a few days. I think it would be a nice gift to her, and she would be pleased to come with me. Besides, I’m afraid to fly alone. She might not want to go exactly on Christmas day or during Christmas week even, but still Christmas can be celebrated until New Years, since I don’t take my tree down until then. I think sometimes I’m still a kid at heart and don’t want it to end.

Sometimes it’s nice to get away on holiday breaks and this is something that I’d really consider doing.

Bad eyesight

I found out after going to the optometrist today that basically I’m getting old. Okay, she didn’t say that exactly, but did say that with age one’s eyes tend to get worse. Of course I know mine have, and she said it to be informative, but it sort of hit me like a ton of bricks. (deep sigh) So, I am now waiting for my new bifocals to arrive. Oh well, at least I’ll be able to see a lot better than I have been. Eye strain has also been giving me headaches, so hopefully these new glasses will help.

Rain rain go away

I can not believe that it has been raining and so dreary here for nearly a week. We only had one nice day last weekend, and that was on Sunday. It was like a beautiful “Indian Summer” day. I enjoyed it and took the dog out for a walk after he kept bringing me his leash. He hardly ever does that, but apparently he wanted to go outside and enjoy the weather also.

Health and dental plans

I’ve been kicking around finding a new health plan for a long time. I’m not satisfied with the one I had and have found myself paying a great deal of money for it than what it’s worth. Even the co pays are out of my price range, to be honest. Even the thought of filling out all the papers that need to be filled out, and the waiting period that it takes to get approved along with the hassle just turns me off totally.

I know I have to also find a dental plan, because no matter how afraid I am to go to the dentist, lets face it…for good health one has to have a healthy mouth and it starts with the dentist and regular visits. My aunt suggested shopping around and I must say the net is of course a good start to do this. There are so many types of plans out there that it’s rather tough to find one that lives up to what their ads are. I did find and research Ameriplan and it seems to have what I have been looking for.

Of course I have to do more research and make some decisions, but I do know that soon I’m going to need a good plan, at least one that is better and covers more than the plan I have now.

Fall Equinox

Summer is officially over now and it’s sad to me. It seems like this summer and the awesome warm weather came and went so quickly. I dread having to start layering clothes, digging out my winter things and heavy socks, boots and cold weather gear. I always think the very first snow flakes to come down looks pretty, but after that first time, I want to then pack up and go someplace very warm.

Rolling fog

Wow! I woke up early this morning and since it’s now staying darker longer it was semi dark still outside. When I opened the door to let my dog outside, the fog was so thick that I couldn’t see the house across the street from me. To top it off, even though it wasn’t the slightest bit windy out there, the fog was actually rolling around and swirling. It looked like something out of a scary movie. I ran to get my camera to video it it, only to discover that the darn batteries were dead. It’s light out now, but still really foggy. I saw on the news that most the schools are delayed around here…as well they should be. I’m not even going to drive in this.

Patio furniture

I keep looking at my patio and I’ve decided that I want a whole new ambiance for it and it’s use. That means new patio furniture. My sister suggested looking at Adirondac chairs as a beginning and then go on from there. I’ve seen a few of my friends chairs of that brand, including a pair of really nice looking and comfortable rocking chairs and fell in love with them. I’ve always had a great infinity for rocking chairs and comfortable chairs to relax in. I think rocking makes for peace once in awhile when things seem too stressful.

While I was looking for chairs, I was totally amazed at the other items from this company. For instance the picnic tables. I found one that I would love to have. The smaller size of it, would be totally perfect for my patio. Plus it doesn’t really look like the usual picnic table one normally sees. It’s actually quite classy and also very durable. Perfect for a small party of guests. So far the wheels in my mind are remodeling my patio so that I’ll be totally ready to do it by the time Spring is here.

I figured while I’m “mentally” getting myself a new patio, I’d also look at park benches to see if there was one that also would round out the look I want for my patio. Sure enough…there was a patio bench with cushions and even a pillow that looked great! So, with my little nest egg I save for just this kind of project, I might just take my sister’s recommendation into mind.

Ahhh Friday

I don’t have any plans this weekend, except to was the pup and then do some light cleaning, but the music will be turned up a notch and I plan on just enjoy being home with not much to do. Maybe I’ll dig out a cook book and try something new to cook. I know for sure the phone machine is going to be set to auto answer and things can just be put on hold for the weekend!

Security and more

Last week I had decided that I needed a break from sitting on the computer all day, so I decided that I would sit in front of the television all night, and watch movies I had been wanting to see, but hadn’t gotten a chance to. Thanks to Direct TV, I got to watch some awesome movies that had been recommended to me also. The only problem is, I kept hearing strange noises in the back yard, and when I let my dog out, he went running around the side of the house, barking and growing. I at first thought it was just a racoons, or some night life animal, but after about four days of hearing noises and finding things disturbed in my yard, I wasn’t so sure.

I started surfing the net of course, for security systems. I hit on, home security daphne and read the ad. After that I decided to check out what some of my friends in Alabama thought and if any had used that security business, and one of my friends totally recommended it. I’m planning on doing more research, talking to system’s representatives and then make my decision.

All in all, I know I do want the security and the peace of mind. Since I live alone, except the dog and the cat of course, I actually need it. This isn’t a bad neighborhood, but then even in the best of them, crime still happens and a security system in the house is something I should have gotten a long time ago.

A visitor

Sad to say, this summer there weren’t too many butterflies. This one landed on the flowers, then onto my hand and it seemed not afraid at all. If one looks closely there is a bumble bee on the other flower and he was very friendly also! Maybe because I’m not afraid of them and also have been known to hold them at times.
