Went red

I have to admit I was born with auburn hair, but it was a dark brown with just a hint of red in it. My niece was over the other night and suggested I dye my hair red. I kind of shied away from the subject, until we went shopping the next day. Of course I took her to the beauty supply house, which is where she wanted to go to get some nail polish and other items. I started looking at those little hair swatches they have in the dye it aisle. Long story short, I am now a red head. To be honest…I like it!

A friend coming to visit!

A dear friend who I’ve known for nearly 25 years is coming for a visit. His daughter is graduating this month and though they live so very far away from one another, he wouldn’t miss this for the world. He loves his daughter so much. He will be flying into Chicago, as that is where his brother lives and will then drive to Michigan. Problem is, no transportation and renting a car is another problem, since for his daughter’s graduation present, he wants to buy her a good used car. That way, he will have transportation during his stay, and then give her the car before he leaves. I thought it was a great idea, as there are a lot of people he would like to visit, and places to go. His brother told him about looking at used cars in Chicago. He could buy one there, drive here and not have to rent a car to look for a car. Makes perfect sense to me!

Breanne my friend’s daughter,Ā  is the outdoorsy type of young lady. And she is always on the go. She loves to travel and in her old car, I can remember her coming to visit me last year and it looked like she had packed that little car as though she were going on a year long vacation around the United States, instead of on a two hour drive to stay here for week. I had to laugh when she even pulled out a waffle maker, because she wanted to make me “her famous Breanne waffles.” I suggested to her father that he look at something like a Cheverolet Avalance because it’s roomy, looks great and in the QT I called his kid to find out what she really wanted. I’m sneaky like that! šŸ˜‰

Bless my friend’s heart. Though he loves his daughter so much, he has no clue how girls that age are, and certainly believes his “little girl” is still that…a little girl. Boy do I have news for him. He will soon learn that she indeed is her own person and has unique ideas. She and my youngest daughter are the same age and are great friends also. They both will have their new to them used cars, and I’m excited for this visit.

Weather’s fine!

I could not have complained about the weather today at all. It was the first day since last year, that the temps actually climbed up above the 80’s mark and I was so happy to go barefoot in the grass and just take a long walk without piling on a ton of clothes. In fact I wore shorts even! Now, if it only would stay this way.

A worthwhile car!

A dear friend of mine went to Florida looking for a car. Personally I wish I could have gone with him, as that is my most favorite state in the US. He went looking for cars down South because there isn’t the salt and junk on the roads there like there is here, and the cars are for the most part, if you seek them out and do your homework, in great shape and really clean. He went down there himself and was totally on a mission. He had even checked out car shipping, since he wanted to stop off at some relative’s places on the way down to Florida and didn’t want to rent a car, so he drove his own.

I had told him that years ago I had bought my very first car down on the Gulf, and used an car transport company to bring my “baby” on home. It was a 1966 Chevy Malibu. I wanted a sort of match as I had gotten a 1966 Chevy Super Sport that was being worked on to get into cherry shape. I wasn’t happy with one, I needed the other model of the year! šŸ˜‰

To me auto transport is the way to go when it comes to vacationing and shopping for a vehicle in other States. I personally did not even want to drive my Chevy home, just in case something were to have gone wrong and I was far away from my mechanic, who I trust totally. And being a single woman, buying a car, it would have been easy to rip me off. Welllll…not so easy since I’m a pretty good mechanic on the older makes of cars my self, but still…didn’t want to take a chance. Using a service such as auto transport, especially by reliable services means no hassle and your “baby” gets home safely!

Time flys…

Today is my little sister’s 33rd birthday. I’m quite a bit older than she is, but it feels like just yesterday I was gingerly holding her for the first time. We’ll have cake and ice cream at my Mom’s house later this evening and I’ll of course secretly cry because I miss my “baby sister.” She’s grown into a beautiful young woman and a wonderful mother. (And I feel old).

Gate house for sale?

After all the damage that had to be fixed some weeks ago in the Texas cottage, I’ve been thinking about selling. I’d like to get a place somewhere much warmer and perhaps on a beach. I’ve always loved the ocean, sunshine (of course) and the ocean, though I won’t go into the ocean above my knees since I once was circled by three sand shark some years ago, on the Gulf of Florida. THAT sort of, to say the least, turned me off on going in to swim. Sooo, I’ve been looking into Dallas real estate, and the going prices of homes, cottages and vacation homes.

I’m going to hate to sell in a way, as it’s such a beautiful place with horses to care for and ride and all the roaming trails and other perks of escaping to there if I want, but looking into Dallas homes for sale, I realized that this place I could make a profit on and have enough money for a decent other get away, easily. I know I’ll miss it, but I also think it’s time for a change.

When I started looking at the Dallas homes for sale, I also did some calling to the real estate people. Talk about some really friendly helpful people. I was totally surprised…pleasantly so. The folks I spoke with are great! They don’t see a problem at all with the sale of my place. Since I basically have a “Texas” motif and furnishings, wall hangings and even dishes, I asked if all of that could be included in the sale, (all except the personal items I want to keep) and the answer was yes, and it would bring the price up even more, since it would be furnished. So, I’m going to wait and let these nice friendly professionals do the leg work and their job for me. It’s well worth it!

Jr. Prom!

My niece has asked me to help her get ready for her Jr. Prom. I checked with my sister and my sister is thankful. It’s tomorrow. Because my sister has lots on her plate right now, she can’t afford to really go all out like she wants to, and I’m totally happy to help. I love her and this kid is the bomb, (using a young person’s slang) as she is such a beautiful and happy young adult. Tomorrow we go to get her hair done, and even though it’s last minute, we’ll get shoes, nylons, and pretties that will all sync together. I think I’m looking forward to this more than my niece, LOL! Times have changes so much. She’s going with a bunch of her girlfriends, instead of a date with a guy. I personally think this is really cool. My sister of course will be here at my house for the photos. I’m excited!

Weekend plans.

I know I have to work a bit over the weekend and I also want to go check out some plants and seeds for my gardens. My blogging friends are all a buzz about plans for theirs and we are comparing ideas, sharing thoughts and as well as my friends, all interested in the straw bale gardening idea my dear friend told me about that I’m going to try. It all should be quite interesting. Like most my friends, who are fortunate enough to still have our Moms alive, we will go to visit them. Lately I’ve been entertaining the thought of what it would be like to be a mom. It comes and goes though. I want to be absolutely sure and ready if ever I decide to settle down and have a child. Still, it’s not like I don’t want kids. I do. But in this world of such disasters, and chaos, and also such hard times, should I bring a little one into the world? I don’t know. So…my weekend is going to be full. I also have to get around to cleaning this house, both inside and out. I’m such a procrastinator sometimes. Happy weekend, to All!

At the movies.

I’m not a movie critic, but recently I saw a movie that was made in 1995 called, “Two for the Money.” I had read the regular review then watched the movie trailer, and because of the actors who starred in the movie, I decided to watch it on my movie night.

Al Pacino, Renee Russo and Matthew McConaughey are the actors in the film. IĀ  like Al Pachino movies, even though they most are pretty much the same. You know…a guy who sort of apprentices or does the bad deeds for higher up guys or thugs, drug lords, and guys who are so called, beating the system and are a unsavory, then gets into the greed of money and living the high life, and that is his downfall. Renee Russo is one of my favorite actresses, and I’ll watch anything she stars in.

This movie is basically about sports betting. A sports hero knows the inside story of the game and then has an injury and can’t play, then turns a pro betting person until greed and “the good life” takes over, but then ends up in the gutter. To be honest, I thought the movie as a B grade, even though the acting was good. The story line just didn’t make a person want to keep watching, but I watched because I wanted to see if it would pick up. Perhaps the book is better? It’s actually based on a true story of collage football player who had an injury and yet had an incredible handicap. He became a consultant of the largest firm in the United States.

Finally Sunshine!

It looks like it’s going to be a nice day today, finally. The sun is shining and birds are chirping. I might be able to get out and do some yard work I’ve been itching to do, get some fresh air, and some sun. I hope it lasts.

Last years Zinnias.
