You Can Call Me Aunt Betsy

It looks like I’ll be an aunt some time in Dec, my sister-in-law just announced the news to the family last night, via email of all things. It used to be that announcements such as this took place at a family dinner or functions, but since everyone is so spread out that is a rare occasion in it’s self. At least it wasn’t announced on Face Book or My Space, my mother would really have had a fit!

Since this is going to be her baby, she is going to be in need of a lot of things. Maternity Clothes being top at the list. Being pregnant can be a challenge and during the cold winter months she needs to be warm and comfortable as well. She plans on continuing working so she will be looking for and wearing professional, designer maternity clothes for many months to come.

For now she is looking online for some nice Maternity capris to keep her going until it gets cold out. There hasn’t been any pregnancies in the family for so long that no one has any hand me downs to turn her onto. It’s a good thing that she is a smart shopper and has a good nose for bargains and online is a great place to find bargains these.

Location, Location, Location . . .

I really don’t know what all the hoopla is about with not being able to use any information that is found on Wikipedia.org. I have been relying on Wikipedia for a very long time and have rarely come across anything questionable, not quite looking and/or sounding right. My niece was sharing with me on Face Book last night that she has an essay due next week and is having a hard time finding resources that are helpful and acceptable by her teacher. This teacher is telling her class that she will not accept anything turned in that used Wikipedia as a resource and/or a reference, which is something that just surprised me and caught me off guard at that moment.

Her school library doesn’t have the book she needs, nor do the 5 county libraries that are within an hour’s drive of her house has the book(s) either. They live way out in the boonies which is a pain in the rear – at least they do have Internet access, which several people in that little town don’t have at all. I just can’t image living out in the country. I need all my things right there, easy enough for me to get around efficiently enough.

Cigar Samplers

My mother just now posted the Christmas day pictures that were taken on her camera on Facebook to share with everyone. Bless her heart she tries so very hard to master all of today’s latest technologies. I know that a lot of our senior citizens are so intimidated by all of that tekki stuff that they really miss out on all that there is out. It took my parents, especially my mother, a good long while before they would even consider to just sit down in front of a computer and allow me to show them so that they could see what it was all about. Dad finally caught on pretty well, but mom basically settled for learning how to use their email and it wasn’t until last September that I got them both to give Facebook a try!

So I was really tickled that she got the pictures posted today. My favorite picture of all is when my Dad was opening the present that I gave him which was The Ultimate Plasencia Sampler that I posted a picture of below. He was grinning ear to ear. I know he really wanted to light one up right then and there, but mom would have kicked his butt for smoking in the house. I found some great cigar deals online, but even at discount prices cigars aren’t cheap.

Good Friends

I used to be good friends with a gal that worked for an insurance company as a claims representative. She was such a lively person, full of energy and life, I miss her and want to try and find her on the computer somehow. I used to love hearing all the stories that she would tell about the customers that she dealt with each and every day and how they’re acted to a female claims rep in a male dominated world.  Not only did I enjoy hearing her stories, but she also got me hooked up with the best van insurance that money could buy and I’m grateful for that.

I have had to submit a few claims from time to time, always hoping that she would be assigned my claim, but was always happy with the service by the claims rep that did receive my claim. It has been a few years, I was told back then that she was still with the company, sure would love to hear from her again. I’m sure she has some new funny stories to tell me and we have a lot to catch up on. Gonna have to work on finding her soon, I think I’ll start with looking on Facebook which seems to be the best way to find people these days.

A Whole New World

Due to so many people urging me to, I have gone ahead and started an account on Facebook. It is a whole new world to me and it will take me a bit to get it all figured out but so far so good. It’s only been a few weeks and all ready I have a ton of “friends” and several people that I’ve known from years ago have contacted me through it’s search features, you gotta love it.

Just last night I found that a friend from elementary school had found her way to my account. She provided me with her phone number and we talked for over an hour on the phone last night. Thank goodness for my unlimited long distance that I currently have on my land line. She is living in Denver Colorado, married with children and living the life, which is so good to hear. Both she and her husband are secure in their jobs, are in good health and live in a nice house in a nice neighborhood.

Her biggest news was that she and her husband were both experiencing weight issues so they decided to go over to the U.K. where she received the  tummy tuck surgery  that has become so popular these days and her husband had liposuction done on him. They incorporated a vacation away from the kids and had the surgery done at the same time. She sent me the before and after pictures of them and I have to say that I’m impressed. It’s good to know that the economy hasn’t played havoc on everyone that I know.
