Blackberry Wine

The first year that we moved into the  house, a good buddy of mine brought a cutting of blackberry vine, it immediately got planted into the ground and has been thriving brilliantly ever since. The best part is that it is the variety of black berries that don’t have those horrible thorns all through out the vines. The past couple of years it has been producing the most wonderful berries that I now eagerly pick twice a week, eating them by the hand fulls along the way. I usually end up giving a good amount of them away to friends and neighbors and also freeze a large quantity for my own personal use and enjoyment.

In return for the original cutting that started all of this, my buddy is allowed to come at any time and pick his fill, in which he turns around and makes a great batch of wine out of them. And in the end, I end up with a couple of very nice tasting home made wine, from these delicious berries that come from my own back yard. How about that!

Home Made, Make Shift Boarding Stairs For Dad

I’m sorry but I’m just not as knowledgeable about Boarding Stairs as my brothers are at this point. But good grief I can’t even remember the last time I was on a boat or even talked about a boat for that matter. When our father finally got so ill and was having a hard time getting around back in the last years of his life, we all tried to figure out how to afford or to make some make shift Boarding Stairs for him to use to get off and on the numerous boats that we all owned and used and kept in his boat house. The same boat house that he built way before any of us where even thought of. And we did manage to have one built and he used it for several years, it looked so stupid and it stood out like a sore thumb but not a single friend or family member cared one bit as long as it made life easier and more enjoyable for our dad.

He became a land owner early in his life, and his favorite property was the property that he built the log cabin on and was located right on the best water around for his needs and wants. The water is formerly called Buckneer’s Creek, but I can assure you that it in no way resembled a creek. It was perfect for swimming, boating, fishing, crabbing, tubing, canoeing, paddle boating, water skiing, jet skiing, water boarding and any and all other types of water fun you could come up with and it still is. Only thing wrong with the picture is that he isn’t in it any more, but we are so very lucky that we didn’t lose it when he passed on and that we still get to enjoy it year after year. We have a few pictures of the boat with those boarding stairs on it, it still looks awkward but at least you can see a smile on dad’s face there right along side it.

Game Shows

I have never been a fan of game shows but I do enjoy, on occasion, watching Family Feud. This is one game show that doesn’t make me feel like a bumbling idiot. I usually do pretty good on guessing the answers and find myself feeling good about it. Gotta take the good with the bad, but I like good the best. I do have to say that it has definitely become an adult game show that should only be on at night or cable.  I don’t get to see this game show very often but when I do I swear at least once an episode the question or one of the answers has a word that is used in place of the word penis. When I was growing up and watching that show during the daytime, I am quite sure that wasn’t the case or else my parents wouldn’t have allowed us to watch it.

Good Old VHS

After rummaging around in the basement for a good while this afternoon I finally found the tv rack that I promised Macina that she could use to put her two year old’s tv on in her new bed room. It is a small tv combo VCR that they can play all of the old children’s movies that we had on VHS. It works fairly well, but it sure makes a lot of noise when it stops and rewinds itself and I can’t find the remote.

Breaking In My New Boots

Today was the perfect riding day. I was so thrilled when my bud Mike called and said he was on his way over on his Harley to take me for a nice long ride up the Blue Ridge Parkway. I got a chance to wear my new Motorcycle Riding Boots for the third time, it will take a few more rides to get them really broke in, but they are nice looking and comfortable, so I’m a happy camper so far with them.

I have needed a nice break on the back of a bike, I’m so thankful for my friends that keep me in mind for rides all year round.

A Clock For Behind the Bar

Back when I was a kid, I went over to a friends house after school. She lived in a really neat old house that I remember quite well. In the TV room, where we spent most of our time, they had the most unusual clock that had the numbers placed on it backwards and it actually ran backwards. It made an impression on me and I always look for one like it, to no avail, sigh….

There are tons of wall clocks available these days, wish I could figure out where to find one that runs backwards, it would be perfect behind the bar area that I have in the basement. A good conversation piece, wouldn’t you say? I was looking on the Internet the other day to see if I could find this type of clock once again, when I ran across a blog that was about a man whose goat had eaten his clock, his prized mantel clock at that, a Tiffany & Company one that he was very distraught about. Kind of reminds me of the dog that ate the kid’s homework, ya know. Man that has got to hurt coming out of that darned goat!

Although I couldn’t find the wall clock that I was so hoping to find this time, I did find one that would look great behind the bar. Think I’m going to put it on my next years Christmas wish list.
