Big Sister’s a Blessing

Thanks for the article from Isaiah Gaines

My big sister has been a real blessing to me. When we were little, I couldn’t stand her and always played the role of “annoying little brother”. However, now that we have grown, we are actually becoming great friends. I don’t know what I would have done this past week without her. She is, of course, the wiser and more experienced older sister.

When I found the house of my dreams, I didn’t know where to start. I had decided that this was the house for me and went to my sister for more advice. She helped me with everything. She went with me to find the best mortgage rate. She went with me to get the power and water turned on. She even met with the satellite company, so I didn’t have to miss a day of work. I don’t know how I would have done this without her. Honestly, it makes me feel bad for all those years of tormenting her. Hopefully I will be able to make it up to her someday. Maybe I can babysit, when she finally decided to have kids, which we don’t anticipate happening for a good long while yet.

Trade Show Assistance Needed Next Week

Something that has become very popular these days are the trade show. I usually end up attending several of them through-out the year and for the most part enjoy the social aspect of it all, I have met many folks and have made contacts that have proven to be of value, business and personal wise.

One of the lady’s that I enjoy keeping company with has asked me to go with her one day next week to a trade show, over in the next county and help her with the setting up of her company’s booth and their newly purchased trade show carpet that is needed, as well as keeping her company during the day and assist with the breakdown at the end of the day and load up everything into her van. Sounds like it will be a long and busy day for the two of us, along with the booth and carpet she has new logo mats and a logo canopy that she needs help with too. And they have just recently also purchased a ton of new give-a-ways and promotional items  that she found online, I’m good at giving things away. I should be interesting.

Girl Scout Cookies

I was just reading that the Girl Scout’s had to make a decision, either raise the cost of their boxes of cookies, or make the cookies and their packaging smaller. They didn’t want to raise the cost, so they decided to make them smaller instead. I think it is a good decision, smaller is better, all the way around.

A sign of the times folks!

Best Radar Detector For 2011

I live in a Communists state – good old Virginia has always made it illegal to own and operate a Radar Detector, truckers really hate driving through Virginia, rightfully so. It really sucks to get a speeding ticket, those suckers are expensive all the way around and can really sour your day.

Even though they are illegal here it doesn’t stop many of us from using them. My brother even had one on his Harley, LOL! That particular one died last year so for Christmas I found the Best Radar Detector for him online at bestradardetectors.net which had the Best Radar Detectors for 2011. Was he a happy camper on Christmas morning for once. He is always so hard to buy for so it was really cool to see how pleased he was with my gift this year. Not sure how I’m going to top it for next year though…

Being from the south

This guest post from Lenny Mcknight

Being from the south I was a little reluctant to pick up and move to Ohio. I got this amazing job offer at Ohio Statethough and I knew it was time for me to make a change so I took it and here I am! I actually love it here and I’ve made far more friends already than I thought I would have at this stage but you know, I do miss my family. I got Hughes Net Ohio for the house so I can email them when I get home from work but though I’m having fun it’s just not the same as being able to see them everyday. It kills me that my sister’s daughter is growing up with me so far away but it’s been good for me to finally stand on my own two feet and really do something without a lot of support. I don’t know that I’ll stay here forever but I can’t wait to find out – this is a better home than I thought it’d be!

Pink

I have found that you can get some good deals on eye wear by just going on the Internet and spending a few moments of your time, which is what I just spent the evening doing. I remembered seeing a segment on the Fox network about an on-line company that goes by zennioptical.com, they have done their best to keep the cost down by cutting out the middle man, and as we all know the middle man can be very greedy. I was pleased to see that they really do have a good selection of some pretty decent stylish glasses starting at only $6, as was mentioned on the TV.

I have an eye doctor’s appointment coming up next month and I am going get my new prescription and order my new cheap eyeglasses from Zenni Optical, check out the ones that I really have my eye on (please excuse that pun) and when you get a chance see if they have any that float your boat, you really can’t beat their prices any where.

Not a bad deal for $12.00 right? I love the color of pink and these will fit the bill perfectly with so many of my pink clothes and accessories. If you find a pair and want to share your pick with me I’d love to hear from you about it by leaving me a comment here.

A Biker’s Night Before Christmas

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the pad, There was nada happenin’, now that’s pretty bad.

The woodstove was hung up in that stocking routine, In hopes that the Fat Boy would soon make the scene.

With our stomachs packed with tacos and beer, My girl and I crashed on the couch for some cheer.

When out in the yard there arose such a racket, I ran for the door and pulled on my jacket.

I saw a large bro’ on a ’56 Pan Wearin’ black leathers, a cap, and boots (cool biker, man).

He hauled up the bars on that bikeful of sacks, And that Pan hit the roof like it was running on tracks.

I couldn’t help gawking, the old guy had class. But I had to go in — I was freezing my ass.

Down through the stovepipe he fell with a crash, And out of the stove he came dragging his stash.

With a smile and some glee he passed out the loot, A new jacket for her and some parts for my scoot.

He patted her fanny and shook my right hand, spun on his heel and up the stovepipe he ran.

From up on the roof came a great deal of thunder, As that massive V-twin ripped the silence asunder.

With beard in the wind, he roared off in the night, Shouting, “Have a cool Yule, and to all a good ride!”

Christmas Entertaining

Good thing that I took the last couple of days off of work to get ready for the family dinner that is being held at my parent’s house in just a few short days from now. There is always so much to get done for big events such as this with such a large family to try and accommodate and cater to every one’s needs and wants. It is a good thing that we live in the south and don’t have to worry about cold weather for Christmas and we can entertain outside if we want to and believe me we really want to with this many people attending and the number always rising with each year that passes.

My folks have a great yard with plenty of Picnic Tables for people to utilize come meal time so no one has to worry about not having a place to sit and eat at. Nothing worse than having to balance and plate and a drink on your lap, been there done that, no thank you.

There are plenty of Adirondack chairs on the front porch for folks that just want to kick back and watch the kids playing on the wonderful playground equipment that the folks take so much pride in having for all their grandchildren to enjoy all year round. I wish that I had a front porch as grand as my folks, but at least I get to enjoy theirs when I go over there for visits and family festivities.

My Latest Read

I usually do not read books that are the “romance novels” that so many female audiences are going crazy over, but I recently picked up a box of free books and in it found a novel by Marc Levy, If Only It Were True, that I took the time to pick out of the lot and settled down to read. It was about a romance, but with a lot of cute and interesting twists that made it nice and easy, and had an enjoyable story line that kept my attention through the entire 224 pages of this romantic read, during my night time bath and book time for the past 4 or 5 evenings.

At the end of the day I always enjoy a nice hot bubble bath and soak for a good 45 minutes to an hour, at which point I get a good amount of reading done, while relaxing before I turn into bed. Showers are for the morning to wake you up with, and nice hot bubble baths are for bedtime!

Online banking is easier than I thought

My sister has been nagging me for years to take the plunge and start managing my banking needs online and I have finally started doing so just recently and have found that it really is pretty easy and extremely helpful. And now that I have learned how to do that task I am starting to pay a lot of my monthly bills online also. It just makes good economic sense, what with the price of gas and the US Postal Service keeps raising the price of postage stamps, to be able to do the monthly tasks from right at home.

I have only had a few problems with the company not receiving the payment that I had submitted online, but both times the problem was resolved quickly and no extra charges were incurred, thank God.

I’ve always been gun shy with new technologies that are always coming out, I mean it took years for me to even consent to purchase a microwave oven. And now I don’t know what I would do with out one.
