The Need For Boater Education

Boating education is a very hot topic these days, and I believe that it is something that is important for people to learn. I don’t see much difference between getting behind the wheel of a car and getting behind the wheel of a water craft, and we all need to learn certain things in order to obtain an automobile’s driver license, so there is a need for the same type of information to be passed on in order to have the privilege to drive a boat.

There are more and boats being bought these days, which means more and more people operating them and the water ways are filling up with all kinds of idiots operating them, some with absolutely no prior experience or knowledge of the sport. I wish that people who want to buy or operate a boat would take some kind of minimum instruction and earn an operator’s license before they are allowed on the water. This would increase the safety of everyone on water, whether for recreation or for making their living.

Movies On Demand

For some reason I ditched regular TV last tonight and decided to find a movie “On Demand.” I’ve been using the On Demand feature from Comcast for a couple months and I have to admit that I’m getting really spoiled with the convenience of seeing a movie not only when I want to watch but it lets me pause and rewind, as if it was a VCR tape or a DVD. Very cool for when you can’t hear a mumbled line and you want to know what they said. The movie I chose was Semi-Tough, with Burt Reynolds and Kris Kristofferson as two professional football players in a love triangle with the team owner’s daughter. There are some great lines in this movie that reflected the social times and values of the early 1970s.

Most movies and TV shows that I watch from back in that era are so darned corny, and this movie did certainly have it corn balled moments but for the most part it was decent enough for me to get through the whole thing. Kris Kristofferson has always been one of my favorite actors and there are several of his songs that are really wonderful, such a unique sounding voice, that a lot of people don’t appreciate as much as I do. He is no spring chicken these days.

Oregon’s Coast Line

Last year I discovered Oregon and fell in love with the state’s coast line. A good friend of mine from the internet has a lodge on the Pacific Coast, just outside of Portland, but after going out there and driving around discovering the Oregon coast, I found the Klamath Falls area and the Running Y Ranch resort. This area is perfect for southern Oregon weddings, family reunions and just a great getaway to enjoy the great outdoors. The Running Y Ranch has a grand lodge and conference center that is perfect for retreats, weddings and other large organized events. They are selling building lots, too, and the chalets have a great floor plan with either two or three bedrooms that makes a perfect weekend cabin. I am seriously considering a chalet and have looked at their floor plans that are posted online. There are large windows for enjoying the magnificent views, decks, fireplaces – everything a luxury yet rustic vacation in the great outdoors demands. I can own the chalet for my personal use and for friends or family who want to get away, or I can rent it out to tourists when I don’t need it for myself. This is the perfect place for me because not only can I spend my days fly fishing in the Klamath Basin, but I can play a round of golf just steps from the Lodge. The resort has also made arrangements with a variety of local outfitters and guides who can provide everything from a day on horseback to guided ATV trail rides. I’ve not done any white water rafting in years, but this might be the year to get wet again. There is so much to do and enjoy that just one week at the Running Y Ranch isn’t going to be enough time to fit it all in.

Sports Injuries

It amazes me how many people are disabled these days.  I see more and more people in wheel chairs, using canes and other types of devices to help them get around with, especially at the mall. I know that a good amount of people have sports injuries that they are dealing with. I have a friend who injured not just one, but both of his legs playing football in college, he is constantly on the look out for the newest types of knee supports to try. He will never be the same as I knew him in high school, but still an awesome guy with a lot to offer the world, besides playing football.

Sports are a big issue with a good majority of us and the amount of injuries done to us by playing these popular sports are mind boggling. A good web site that addresses sports injuries can be found at physioroom.com and deserves a look see if you have a mind to learn about injuries related to sports,  from a – z. They also have an official Premier League Injury Table List where you can see what sports player is injured and any of their previous injuries as well. Most interesting to read about!

Home Made, Make Shift Boarding Stairs For Dad

I’m sorry but I’m just not as knowledgeable about Boarding Stairs as my brothers are at this point. But good grief I can’t even remember the last time I was on a boat or even talked about a boat for that matter. When our father finally got so ill and was having a hard time getting around back in the last years of his life, we all tried to figure out how to afford or to make some make shift Boarding Stairs for him to use to get off and on the numerous boats that we all owned and used and kept in his boat house. The same boat house that he built way before any of us where even thought of. And we did manage to have one built and he used it for several years, it looked so stupid and it stood out like a sore thumb but not a single friend or family member cared one bit as long as it made life easier and more enjoyable for our dad.

He became a land owner early in his life, and his favorite property was the property that he built the log cabin on and was located right on the best water around for his needs and wants. The water is formerly called Buckneer’s Creek, but I can assure you that it in no way resembled a creek. It was perfect for swimming, boating, fishing, crabbing, tubing, canoeing, paddle boating, water skiing, jet skiing, water boarding and any and all other types of water fun you could come up with and it still is. Only thing wrong with the picture is that he isn’t in it any more, but we are so very lucky that we didn’t lose it when he passed on and that we still get to enjoy it year after year. We have a few pictures of the boat with those boarding stairs on it, it still looks awkward but at least you can see a smile on dad’s face there right along side it.

Wrestling

Been taking some time looking at Suplay wrestling gear that my son will need in a few weeks when school starts and he gets back into his favorite sport of wrestling. Last year he did pretty well for it being his first time. It surprised me to see that he did so well considering he really isn’t what I would consider the wrestling type, but he seems determined and I will back him all the way as long as he keeps his grades up and doesn’t get seriously hurt in the process.

Breaking In My New Boots

Today was the perfect riding day. I was so thrilled when my bud Mike called and said he was on his way over on his Harley to take me for a nice long ride up the Blue Ridge Parkway. I got a chance to wear my new Motorcycle Riding Boots for the third time, it will take a few more rides to get them really broke in, but they are nice looking and comfortable, so I’m a happy camper so far with them.

I have needed a nice break on the back of a bike, I’m so thankful for my friends that keep me in mind for rides all year round.

Weekend Bike Riding

What a beautiful weekend we had. The weather was perfect and most people were out and about taking advantage of this unexpected warm, sunny end of the work week. I took out the bike that has been in the garage all winter and rode about down town for a few hours on Saturday afternoon and had a blast. I was a bit out of shape, but I didn’t let it stop me and it felt good.

Not Tennis Shoes Anymore

Have you heard the term, non-athletic sneakers?

When I was a little girl we wore tennis shoes. Some boys worse “chucks,” like the boys who played basketball. Then we got into the Nikes and the Addidas athletic shoes to wear with jeans. I wore Reeboks because they were so comfortable and light on my feet.

Now I heard that they make non-athletic sneakers and “bikers.” I bought some by Sketchers and love them! One of the best things is the bungee laces – no more tying shoelaces!

Best Radar Detector For 2011

I live in a Communists state – good old Virginia has always made it illegal to own and operate a Radar Detector, truckers really hate driving through Virginia, rightfully so. It really sucks to get a speeding ticket, those suckers are expensive all the way around and can really sour your day.

Even though they are illegal here it doesn’t stop many of us from using them. My brother even had one on his Harley, LOL! That particular one died last year so for Christmas I found the Best Radar Detector for him online at bestradardetectors.net which had the Best Radar Detectors for 2011. Was he a happy camper on Christmas morning for once. He is always so hard to buy for so it was really cool to see how pleased he was with my gift this year. Not sure how I’m going to top it for next year though…
