Thanks To My BFF

The one place that I always wanted to go to when I was a kid, much like every other kid, was Disneyland in southern California. It never happened when I was a kid, but now I have the opportunity to go there and by golly you can bet your bottom dollar that I am going to jump on it and go this year with my BFF Judy.

Judy managed to line up a sweet deal for disneyland tickets at dnticket.com that she is going to pay for with her tax refund check and she has invited me, her BFF since 4th grade, to go along with her. She had a lot of deductions this year and is getting the biggest refund ever and wants me to help her spend it! I mean what are friends for, right? We haven’t done anything major like this together in so very long, it will be awesome spending a whole week together in such a fun and magical place such as Disneyland.

I will have to buy some new clothes with some of the money that I get back from Uncle Sam to take with us, but I guess that is the least I can do considering the expenses that she is going to be responsible for for all of this.

Easier Communication

The Author of this post is Velma Baird

I’ve never had an interest in living in the city. I grew up in the country and plan to live here until I die. Sometimes I do wish I had a little more contact with the outside world. My sister told me about www.wildbluedeals.com and next time I am in town visiting the local library I’m going to check it out. I’m thinking that maybe what I need to better stay in touch is internet service at home. I have e-mail and a facebook account but don’t check them regularly. I’d love to be able to use them more to keep up with family and friends! It seems like no one writes letters anymore and I get tired of talking on the phone. There are only so many hours in the day and I feel like I’m just saying the same thing over and over again to different people. How much easier would it be if I could just type up one update and e-mail it out or post it? Same for sharing pictures. No more printing and mailing them to share.

A Clock For Behind the Bar

Back when I was a kid, I went over to a friends house after school. She lived in a really neat old house that I remember quite well. In the TV room, where we spent most of our time, they had the most unusual clock that had the numbers placed on it backwards and it actually ran backwards. It made an impression on me and I always look for one like it, to no avail, sigh….

There are tons of wall clocks available these days, wish I could figure out where to find one that runs backwards, it would be perfect behind the bar area that I have in the basement. A good conversation piece, wouldn’t you say? I was looking on the Internet the other day to see if I could find this type of clock once again, when I ran across a blog that was about a man whose goat had eaten his clock, his prized mantel clock at that, a Tiffany & Company one that he was very distraught about. Kind of reminds me of the dog that ate the kid’s homework, ya know. Man that has got to hurt coming out of that darned goat!

Although I couldn’t find the wall clock that I was so hoping to find this time, I did find one that would look great behind the bar. Think I’m going to put it on my next years Christmas wish list.

A Fiji Wedding

It most be nice to be able to plan a Fiji honeymoon these days. Times are hard and most people I know and love are struggling just to keep a roof over their head, food on their table, clothes on their back and gas in their homes for heat and in their vehicles to get them where they need to be. There are some great travel deals going on right now since money is tight for the majority of folks today, folks have cut back on so many things and travel is one thing that most folks have had to put on the back burner.

Due to these great Fiji vacation packages (and other vacation locations as well) my cousin, who has been engaged for several years now has been busy planning one of the dream Fiji weddings that most brides would simply die for. You see my cousin just turned 25 and has finally received the O.K. for her to start being able to use the money that was placed in a trust fund for her so long ago from an accident that took her mother’s life back in the 90’s. A dream wedding in Fiji is the first item of business for her in using this large amount of money that she so dearly deserves, although no amount of money could ever make the loss of her mother better at least it will bring her some pleasure in the future.

Family Fun, Back in the Day

I remember when my little sister announced her pregnancy to the family. The first of us girls to start their own family, what an exciting time that was. We couldn’t wait to hold her a baby shower, shopping for a new baby is such good clean fun. It turned into one big family affair!

We even had fun taking her shopping for maternity clothes. Back then we had the Internet, but we didn’t use it much for shopping such as we do these days, so we would hit all the malls on the week ends looking for the latest fashions for our sister who was rapidly gaining weight and really needed some maternity clothes that would keep her comfortable, while keeping her in style, looking all cute and trendy. She was tired of wearing just the loose fitting clothes that we had gathered up for her to wear at her beginning of the pregnancy.

If we had only had the Internet at our finger tips we could have found an unlimited amount of unique and cool looking maternity clothes, like what can be found at kikisfashions.com  but it was just as well as it wouldn’t have been as much fun as what we experienced back then.

Now how cute is this? Found at Kiki’s Fashions.

He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother

One of the best songs that gets me teared up is He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother. Since I was just posting about my kid brother, this song came to my head. I haven’t heard it so long, so I decided to see if I could find it on YouTube.

It still makes me cry!

Big Sister’s a Blessing

Thanks for the article from Isaiah Gaines

My big sister has been a real blessing to me. When we were little, I couldn’t stand her and always played the role of “annoying little brother”. However, now that we have grown, we are actually becoming great friends. I don’t know what I would have done this past week without her. She is, of course, the wiser and more experienced older sister.

When I found the house of my dreams, I didn’t know where to start. I had decided that this was the house for me and went to my sister for more advice. She helped me with everything. She went with me to find the best mortgage rate. She went with me to get the power and water turned on. She even met with the satellite company, so I didn’t have to miss a day of work. I don’t know how I would have done this without her. Honestly, it makes me feel bad for all those years of tormenting her. Hopefully I will be able to make it up to her someday. Maybe I can babysit, when she finally decided to have kids, which we don’t anticipate happening for a good long while yet.

Trade Show Assistance Needed Next Week

Something that has become very popular these days are the trade show. I usually end up attending several of them through-out the year and for the most part enjoy the social aspect of it all, I have met many folks and have made contacts that have proven to be of value, business and personal wise.

One of the lady’s that I enjoy keeping company with has asked me to go with her one day next week to a trade show, over in the next county and help her with the setting up of her company’s booth and their newly purchased trade show carpet that is needed, as well as keeping her company during the day and assist with the breakdown at the end of the day and load up everything into her van. Sounds like it will be a long and busy day for the two of us, along with the booth and carpet she has new logo mats and a logo canopy that she needs help with too. And they have just recently also purchased a ton of new give-a-ways and promotional items  that she found online, I’m good at giving things away. I should be interesting.

Best Radar Detector For 2011

I live in a Communists state – good old Virginia has always made it illegal to own and operate a Radar Detector, truckers really hate driving through Virginia, rightfully so. It really sucks to get a speeding ticket, those suckers are expensive all the way around and can really sour your day.

Even though they are illegal here it doesn’t stop many of us from using them. My brother even had one on his Harley, LOL! That particular one died last year so for Christmas I found the Best Radar Detector for him online at bestradardetectors.net which had the Best Radar Detectors for 2011. Was he a happy camper on Christmas morning for once. He is always so hard to buy for so it was really cool to see how pleased he was with my gift this year. Not sure how I’m going to top it for next year though…
