I’m So Done with Winter and Snow

We got almost 6 inches of snow yesterday. It snowed all day and most of the evening. Most places are closed, people are staying inside and another storm is heading our way for next week end, arg……..I’m so sick of this winter weather, I’m so ready for spring. We haven’t had a decent weekend since before Thanksgiving and here it is almost February. Hopefully one more month and we will be done with it!

Box Tops for Education Program

It is so easy to clip the Box Tops for Education coupons that are being put on more and more food items, I even found some on the package of toilet paper that I just recently purchased. Schools are desperate for funding, and this is a really easy way to raise money for our important education systems all over.

I think schools can earn 10 cents per label and that adds up quickly with the more people that participate. If you don’t have kids attending a school you can still clip them and give them to a friend, family member, neighbor, co worker or just drop them off at your local school that is convenient for you, it’s all good, and some teachers give extra credit for each label donated, it’s all good!

Word of Honor

Took my niece to the library over the weekend. We both love to read and we enjoy going to library together now and then. It’s our time together doing things that we enjoy doing for the day.

While we were there I was looking to see if I could find “The General’s Daughter” by Nelson DeMille. He is the author of the book “Up Country” that I just finished reading a few days ago. I couldn’t find that particular book but I did see that he has several books out that I look forward to reading in the near future. In the mean time I picked up “Word of Honor” by Mr. DeMille and so far, so good.

Important Stem Cell News – Re Posted

I remember reading this article, can’t believe it has been six years since this was announced. I thought enough of this information to post it here on May 1, 2009 and am still excited about it and wanted to re-post it today.

Press Release:
Taking Control: Future Therapies for a Host of Serious Diseases May Be Found in Women’s Menstrual Blood July 07, 2008: 01:28 PM EST

OLDSMAR, Fla., July 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ – With today’s hectic lifestyle, where most women are juggling careers, family, relationships, and a host of activities, the idea of possibly facing a serious illness in the future is not something that readily comes to mind – especially when a woman is in the prime of her life. But what most women don’t know, is that the key to treating a number of possibly life-threatening diseases that she, a parent, a sibling or even her children may face in later years, such as osteoporosis, heart disease, stroke, blood clots, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, may be found within her own body – in vital stem cells, which can now be harvested from her own menstrual blood.

Now, thanks to the revolutionary research and technology of C’elle, a service dedicated to providing women with a safe and easy method of collecting and preserving stem cells found in her menstrual fluid each month, even the busiest woman can take control of her future, right in the privacy of her own home. With C’elle’s non-invasive collection process, menstrual cells are processed and cryo-preserved (stored at a very low temperature) for potential cellular therapies that may be used in the future. These self-renewing cells one day may even be used for sports medicine or cosmeceutical treatments, such as anti-aging therapies.

“C’elle enables and empowers a woman to take control of her future health, and possibly of those genetically closest to her, in a fast, painless and stress free way,” said Michelle Kay, Marketing and Sales Manager for C’elle. “We live in exciting times, as science and technology are discovering how extremely valuable menstrual blood stem cells really are, and the enormous treatment potential they represent for future therapies. C’elle’s ongoing research is supporting these promising findings.”

A Pat on The Back

At the grocery store today I asked the cashier for the store manager, poor guy was ready to freak out on me. I had to assure him that it wasn’t anything negative and nothing to do with him. I wanted to tell the store manager about a certain employee that I see there from time to time that always gives me the biggest smile and a hug and how much I appreciate all that he does in his work there.

The store manager came out and I told him my little story and he thanked me for taking the time out to tell him a good thing about an employee, seems they don’t get many of those these days!

Dental Practices

One of my big fears that I must over come twice a year, is a fear of dentists. When I was a kid my mother used to take me to this Dentist that had bad breath and a bad attitude to go along with it. I remember he would give me a hard time about plucking my eye brows. He believed that eye brows where the gate way to the soul or some such nonsense, I would always come out of that dentist office feeling bad about my self and wishing that I never would have to go back, although his office was decorated with a fascinating fish aquarium and some wonderful seascape paintings that I loved looking at.

I’m so glad that I found the perfect dentist for me to take care of my teeth. I actually found him online at. For over twenty years they have been matching patients up with quality dentists and I’ve told many people about them over the years. Not only do they find dentists in your area but they have good dentistry information that has come in handy for me through out the years.

All you need to do is type in your zip code and click on the type of dentistry service you are looking for, such as a cleaning, braces, whitening, fillings, dentures, caps, root canals and the like, and you will be guided to the appropriate listings of dentists for you to review and choose from. Pretty easy pickings.

New Best Place

With the economy being as it is today, eating out has become more of a luxury for our family dining. Although the kids like to patronize the fast food places, my husband and I prefer to go somewhere a little more interesting. On this occasion we decided to check out a new restaurant that had just opened and after battling with the kids over where to go, we set the security alarm  and headed out. When we arrived at the new Red Elephant, we were very surprised with what we saw, as were the kids. Inside the decor was a wonderful mix of hand painted murals, featuring all sorts of wild animals.

The kids were totally in awe and had to take time to search them all out. They even wandered into the arcade, which to them, was the greatest thing on earth. The menu had everything an adult might want to eat, as well as pizza and burgers for the younger set. Large screen tv’s were in every corner, so grown-ups could watch the news, as well as sporting events. The evening was a huge success and I think the kids may have, at least for the time being, forgotten about that famous fast food place. Must say that the elephant ears on the menu were the icing on the cake.

One Hell of A Good Book

I love reading a variety of books. It seems that I usually have 2 or 3 going at the same time, it works out most of the time. I always keep a good novel in the bathroom. When I take my bath I kick back and get some good reading time out of the deal as well.

I just finished a novel “Up Country” by Nelson DeMille, who also wrote “The General’s Daughter” which I really need to find now. This was a great book about Vietnam Vets that anyone would and should enjoy reading at some point.

Dinner Theater

I am going to take my 11 year old niec to the Dinner Theater in a few weeks. She given tickets to it for her birthday and she decided that she wanted me to take her to it instead of her mom. They have “The Pirates of Penzance Junior” which we should both enjoy and I look forward to going with her!

Wart Issues

It seems that my sisters and I all have problems with warts on our hands. My oldest sister just went to the doctor to have 14 warts treated on her hands. Bless her heart, what a mess that must be. I hope that the treatment works and she can not have to worry about warts again for a very long time.
