I’ve had the opportunity to watch TLC’s new hit TV show “Say Yes To The Dress” What I can’t understand is in these horrible economic times with the economy totally in the toilet how these people are coming up with the thousands of dollars that they are spending on a dress that is only going to be used one time. Some of these dresses are well over ten thousand dollars, that is a lot of money that I think could be better spent in so m
“EYES ON THE PRIZE” TOUCHES THE SOUL
Thanks to Roman May
What started out as a typical movie night at a girlfriend’s house, ended up in a historical lesson neither of us will ever forget. That night the Public Broadcasting Station began the airing of the documentary “Eyes on the Prize”. This is an award winning documentary about the American Civil Rights Movement and covers the period from 1954 to 1985.
The documentary is a series lasting 14 hours. My girlfriend would record the program from her directstartv.com and we would parcel it out over seven viewings. Be prepared, it will hook you and you will find a way to watch all 14 hours.
There were so many aspects of the documentary that fascinated the history buff in me, naming one is impossible. The power of one to ignite action as shown through the footage of the Montgomery Bus Boycott sparked by the arrest of Rosa Parks for refusing to give up her bus seat to a white person was inspiring. How can you forget the footage of the hanging of Emmett Till, a 14 year old boy, because of his color? The documentary is filled with various aspects of the movement including the Freedom Rides, passage of the Voting Rights Act, and, of course, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
“Eyes on the Prize” leaves an impression on your soul. That’s why it is my favorite.
Totally Wacked Out Jerry Fans
Who still watches Jerry Springer after all the talk about how his show is all a bunch of B.S. Even before I knew the show was totally stagged there was nothing appealing to me about these totally wacked out people, airing their dirty laundry in front of the whole country, that typically ended the show in a physical free-for-all. There has to be something seriously wrong with the millions of Jerry’s fans that still faithfully watch this totally useless 60 minutes of air time.
Home Protection
When I was growing up, the only times we locked our house up was when we were going out of town for vacation. The rest of the time if we were home, we left our front door and back door unlocked with no concerns about anyone trying to break in or cause anyone harm. I don’t remember even hearing the phrase “home invasion” until the 1990’s. It just was not done in my neighborhood or to anyone I knew.
But all that has changed and people need to not only lock their doors but they need to have alarm systems installed. My dear neighbor who recently moved to Arizona has had 3 different attempts at break-ins while she was at work. I told her that she should click on the home security globe web site for an alarm system, and the police would be notified and respond to the calls. Each time there are attempts to break into a house with an alarm system, the police have a better chance to stop the robbery in progress and arrest the guys.
Another thing she had installed in her new home out there was Direct tv. In my neighborhood we all have cable, but evidently in Arizona it is much easier and cheaper to get Direct TV installed and choose your entertainment package based on what you want to watch rather than having the cable company do the programming and telling me what I can watch.
Martha and Conan in the Potting Shed
My sister loves finding, watching and sharing videos off of YouTube.com. This video with Conan O’Brien and Martha Stewart is totally off the wall, not something that you would expect to see Ms. Martha involved in, Conan on the other hand, who knows what will be coming out of his mouth!
Looking For Father’s Day Deals
I can’t help buy wonder what the Internet will be like in the next 5 or 10 years. I just can’t imagine it doing and offering any more than it all ready does, but I’m sure that there are many things in the works for us to see and use in the future. We have all ready become so dependent on our computers for just about everything we do these days, I can’t imagine life without it.
With Father’s Day coming up, we have all ready figured out what to get our Dad, but now we are working on finding something for our Grandfather, who is a recent widow and isn’t in the best of health these days. We have to find something for him that he will be able to use and to enjoy. Grandpa always enjoyed fishing, but hasn’t done much of it these past couple of years, so we are thinking about finding him a nice new fishing pole as a gift.
I found a great new site that can find deals at Savings.com. It’s a pretty cool site that you can ask, answer and save on. You submit your question, mine being “Where can I find good quality fishing poles at discount prices” then you provide them with your email address and then you sit back and wait for the answers to come straight to your email. Pretty easy right? I’ll let you know how it pans out over the next day or two.
I’m Excited About The Prospect of Attending the 2012 Olympics, London
I can’t believe that I had not heard, up until now at least, that the 2012 Olympics are scheduled to be held in London. Wow, England is having a very busy time of i,t as of late, what with the recent Royal wedding that will take some time for the place to get over that spectacular event and next thing you know that place will become busy as ever preparring for the Olympics.
I have never been a real big fan of the Olympics but attending one in person is a whole nother matter. So I am starting to think that there is chance of me making a trip overseas and getting into the Olympics scene, London style. I have always wanted to take a trip over to Europe, I mean really, who hasn’t? There is still time to save up some money, get a few other people involved as well to go, which will help reduce the cost just a bit. Not a big group of people mind you, the more people you have involved the more complicated things get so I’m thinking that a group of 3 or 4 would be perfect so I need to think of who would want to go, who will behave themselves and still have fun and who can afford the trip as well.
I have some friends, Bill and Mary, that love to travel. The last trip they took, they rented one of those lovely, enchanting apartments in Puerto Pollensa and had a great time, bringing home more pictures that a person has a right to have. I can’t figure out how they managed to do everything that they claim that they did with all of the picture taking going on with them this time. It seems that Bill has just got a nice new fairly expensive camera for Christmas and he was trying to break it in, O.K. now who believes that a camera needs to be broken in for goodness sake? Seriously, they must have at least 1000 pictures from a one week vacation, that is a lot of picture taking going on there folks.
Bill and Mary have already been talking and researching their next trip to the largest island of Greece, Crete. They are planning on renting a holiday villas in Crete and are looking fora few other folks that would like to go along with them. I’m not all that crazy about going to Greece, but maybe I can talk them in going there the following year and go to London with me instead. They would be great to travel with, the three of us have gotten long really good for over 16 years now so I don’t think that they would ruin the trip with a bunch of petty trivia that a lot of couples go through and end up doing. What a waste of everyone’s time, money and energy, which are three things that I don’t want to give up easily for a no good, no account reason, right?
Guess I’ll start looking around a bit online and see what is what over there. I don’t know anything about England, but I’m willing and able to learn, so I have a lot to learn for this exciting event that is something that I’ve wanted to do ever since I can remember. At least I don’t have to learn another language, but will have to brush up on some of their customs and stuff like that. I’m getting excited about it all, I hope that I can make it happen.
Say What?
I hear that this a.m. the Muslim Brotherhood has warned the U.S. that if the meddling that is now going on over in Egypt and Lybia continues, that they will cut off America ‘s supply of Motel 6 and 7-11’s managers.
If this action does not yield sufficient results, our Cab Drivers will be next, then followed by Dell, AT&T and AOL customer service representatives.
If all else fails, they have threatened not to send us any more Presidents either. It sounds like it is going to get ugly, folks.

Ever since I was a little girl, fashion has been a huge part of my life. I would go shopping with my mom, and we would pick out the trendiest outfits together. We really bonded as mother and daughter on our shopping sprees.
Now that I am older, I still find ways to keep up with the latest fashion trends. Every week, I flip on my Dish tv and watch “What Not to Wear.” The show’s hosts, Clinton Kelly and Stacy London, make a perfect duo. They are both catty and witty when they critique the outfits of their guests. Stacy picks out the most amazing outfits, and Clinton is a genius at mixing and matching separates. At the end of each show, the finished makeover is always unbelievable. I have never seen a guest not like the end result.
I started watching the show about five years ago, when my fashionable mother introduced it to me. I have been a faithful viewer on a weekly basis ever since. One day, I plan on nominating my boss for the show. She needs a lot of fashion advice, as her wardrobe is very drab and matronly. It would be a dream to actually meet Stacy and Clinton in real life one day. Perhaps my fashion dream will come true.
Pit Boss Is Back
I’m so glad that the TV show “Pit Boss” is back on VHI with new episodes for us to enjoy until the summer reruns start in on us. So many times I find a show that I really can get into and wham it is gone, never to be see again, so I’m really surprised to see this show running into it’s third season.
