New Bathroom Flooring Is In Order

My bathroom flooring has become such a disaster that I’ve had just about enough of it and have got to buckle down and find the right replacement bathroom flooring. My brother-in-law, bless his heart, installed the flooring that is in there now and just like everything else that this man gets his hands on, it was a disaster right from the start. He didn’t use the right materials, nor the corrects tools and now I am stuck with the nastiest looking and feeling (yes feeling, it is all uneven, cracking and breaking up) bathroom floor that I’ve ever had the displeasure of stepping on.

This morning I could have sworn that I sliced my foot on the tiles in front of toilet. Thank goodness it didn’t really break the skin, but it came darned close. Having a cut on the bottom of your foot can really ruin your day, that’s a hard place to heal (excuse the pun, if you will) and band aids don’t want to stay on anywhere on feet so I consider myself very lucky that it didn’t go that far.

I am thinking that this time I should stay away from tiles and look for something that comes all in one piece that just needs to be  rolled out, cut to size, along with some hard core glue to keep it from coming up and go from there. Instead of running around all over town looking at the various home improvement stores to find what I want and what I can afford, I’ll be spending my time looking online instead. Sounds like a plan to me.

Basement Wet & Nasty

Fix Wet Basement and have it waterproofed, these are my latest chores to be addressed, and ones that I have not looked forward to starting, but has now become necessary, I can only hope that I haven’t waited too long. When I can’t come up with someone that I know or am related to, to give my business to, it has become useful to use the Internet to find what you are looking for, which in this case it did provide me with a company with a website of B-dry.com that looks promising.

They have been in business since 1958, that is half of a decade, a good long time to be in business. An interesting tool is on their website, a tab labeled WET BASEMENT ANALYZER TOOL, which takes you to a page where you click on whatever your issue is and it tells you what could be the cause of your leaking basement might be, which I gave a try and it pretty much confirms what I believe to be the case in our wetness issues.

I have filled out the request for a Free Estimate and hope to hear from someone tomorrow, would like to go ahead and get this ball rolling.

Do It All By Myself

It’s a well known fact that people are fixing up their homes rather than buying new ones. The fact that people can spend up to $20,000 on new kitchen cabinets just blows my mind considering how bad the economy still is. But there are people out there that are doing just that. Myself I am looking at a rta cabinet project. RTA stands for Ready To Assemble for those not familiar with some of the dyi terms. DYI stands for Do It Yourself.

I have a lot to research, and a lot to learn, but I enjoy working with my hands and learning new things and new tools, so it may take a bit longer than “normal” but I’ll get it done. And if I need some help or guidance along the way I have a few friends that I can turn to, but I really want to diabm, as much as possible. DIABM stands for Do It All By Myself.

Blackberry Wine

The first year that we moved into the  house, a good buddy of mine brought a cutting of blackberry vine, it immediately got planted into the ground and has been thriving brilliantly ever since. The best part is that it is the variety of black berries that don’t have those horrible thorns all through out the vines. The past couple of years it has been producing the most wonderful berries that I now eagerly pick twice a week, eating them by the hand fulls along the way. I usually end up giving a good amount of them away to friends and neighbors and also freeze a large quantity for my own personal use and enjoyment.

In return for the original cutting that started all of this, my buddy is allowed to come at any time and pick his fill, in which he turns around and makes a great batch of wine out of them. And in the end, I end up with a couple of very nice tasting home made wine, from these delicious berries that come from my own back yard. How about that!

My Brother’s Latest Technologies

I had a problem with my home computer this morning. Well, actually it was the printer. It stopped working. So I called my brother in a panic and he couldn’t do much over the phone so on his lunch break he came over to take a look. Of course, he had it fixed in no time – he’s so good with all this computer stuff. He had a minute to show off his latest gadget – a new iPhone. I haven’t seen one yet and I’m not surprised my brother got one – he always wants the latest and greatest gadgets.

The iPhone is really cool and he showed me a special clear case called Invisibleshield that he bought and put over the iPhone. You can’t even tell that it has a case on – it is really invisible unless the light catches it just so. The clear case protects the iPhone from any dirt and dust in the air. Since my brother wears his on his belt and rides a motorcycle, I guess the clear case is a very good idea.

Easier Communication

I’ve never had an interest in living in the city. I grew up in the country and plan to live here until I die. Sometimes I do wish I had a little more contact with the outside world. My sister told me about www.wildbluedeals.com and next time I am in town visiting the local library I’m going to check it out. I’m thinking that maybe what I need to better stay in touch is internet service at home. I have e-mail and a facebook account but don’t check them regularly. I’d love to be able to use them more to keep up with family and friends! It seems like no one writes letters anymore and I get tired of talking on the phone. There are only so many hours in the day and I feel like I’m just saying the same thing over and over again to different people. How much easier would it be if I could just type up one update and e-mail it out or post it? Same for sharing pictures. No more printing and mailing them to share.

A Clock For Behind the Bar

Back when I was a kid, I went over to a friends house after school. She lived in a really neat old house that I remember quite well. In the TV room, where we spent most of our time, they had the most unusual clock that had the numbers placed on it backwards and it actually ran backwards. It made an impression on me and I always look for one like it, to no avail, sigh….

There are tons of wall clocks available these days, wish I could figure out where to find one that runs backwards, it would be perfect behind the bar area that I have in the basement. A good conversation piece, wouldn’t you say? I was looking on the Internet the other day to see if I could find this type of clock once again, when I ran across a blog that was about a man whose goat had eaten his clock, his prized mantel clock at that, a Tiffany & Company one that he was very distraught about. Kind of reminds me of the dog that ate the kid’s homework, ya know. Man that has got to hurt coming out of that darned goat!

Although I couldn’t find the wall clock that I was so hoping to find this time, I did find one that would look great behind the bar. Think I’m going to put it on my next years Christmas wish list.

Nyquil

Massive doses of the yucky green stuff is doing the trick. I know they changed the formula recently, but it still makes the stuffy nose / fever / can’t sleep / feel bad / etc / go away for 4 hours at a time.

Early to bed again and hoping for a good day tomorrow. At least the weather has gotten better and there WILL be school tomorrow.

Cowboy Up

Big Sister’s a Blessing

Thanks for the article from Isaiah Gaines

My big sister has been a real blessing to me. When we were little, I couldn’t stand her and always played the role of “annoying little brother”. However, now that we have grown, we are actually becoming great friends. I don’t know what I would have done this past week without her. She is, of course, the wiser and more experienced older sister.

When I found the house of my dreams, I didn’t know where to start. I had decided that this was the house for me and went to my sister for more advice. She helped me with everything. She went with me to find the best mortgage rate. She went with me to get the power and water turned on. She even met with the satellite company, so I didn’t have to miss a day of work. I don’t know how I would have done this without her. Honestly, it makes me feel bad for all those years of tormenting her. Hopefully I will be able to make it up to her someday. Maybe I can babysit, when she finally decided to have kids, which we don’t anticipate happening for a good long while yet.

Being from the south

This guest post from Lenny Mcknight

Being from the south I was a little reluctant to pick up and move to Ohio. I got this amazing job offer at Ohio Statethough and I knew it was time for me to make a change so I took it and here I am! I actually love it here and I’ve made far more friends already than I thought I would have at this stage but you know, I do miss my family. I got Hughes Net Ohio for the house so I can email them when I get home from work but though I’m having fun it’s just not the same as being able to see them everyday. It kills me that my sister’s daughter is growing up with me so far away but it’s been good for me to finally stand on my own two feet and really do something without a lot of support. I don’t know that I’ll stay here forever but I can’t wait to find out – this is a better home than I thought it’d be!
