Restaurant Equipment

When I was much younger I entertained the though of becoming a professional cook, owning and running my own small and quaint restaurant or maybe a bed and breakfast even. I still love to cook but have come to realize that a love to cook isn’t the only thing you need to be able to run a successful restaurant these days. But I do find myself at times looking at restaurants with a different eye then the normal customer, and I really love looking at various and interesting restaurant equipment at RapidsWholesale.com, a girl can still dream can’t she?

Neighbors and their gardens

Most of my neighbor’s here, seem to have a vegetable garden that they are tending to and I love that every now and then there is someone at my door with a basket of healthy garden goodies that are being given away, due to the fact that they are growing more than they can handle on their own, which is good for folks like me that love freebies and too lazy to grow my own garden.

I love this time of year because I now have a good supply of green beans, yellow squash, cherry tomatoes, and several nice, large Beefeater tomatoes, that will taste so good on a sandwich, with lots and lots of mayo!

Sheetz Customer

I just got my Sheetz customer appreciation card which entitle me to save 3 cents a gallon as long as I make sure the sales clerks scans my card. I will also expect to receive an email once a month to let me know what item from their convenience store for free, like a free yogurt, a free bottled water, or a free package of candy. I love Sheetz, they all most always have the best price for gas as it is so saving another 3 cents will be welcomed.

New York City It’s Always Open

Growing up and living in New York City had many advantages. I really enjoy that we are provided with so many events, concerts, shows and the like. While growing up my parents took us kids, on numerous occasions to see the most wonderful Broadway shows which I’m so grateful to them for doing that with us all those years. It really made me appreciate all the venues that were available to us all.

Not only were all of the shows/performances a great thing to experience in the Big Apple, but all of the wonderful and diverse Coffee Shops and Restaurants that we constantly chowed down at back then was always an adventure and provided us with great entertainment and great food any time of day and any day of the week. There is always some place open in the big city to get something to eat and/or drink and plenty of people out and about enjoying life and just taking it all in.

There is no better place to be during the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year holidays than New York City. I think that is what I miss the most. I’m just going to have to make a special effort to get up there and do the holiday thing in the next couple of years. I know so many people that are still living in the city that I won’t have any trouble finding good places to stay at to lay my head down at the end of the day.

Girl Scout Cookies

I was just reading that the Girl Scout’s had to make a decision, either raise the cost of their boxes of cookies, or make the cookies and their packaging smaller. They didn’t want to raise the cost, so they decided to make them smaller instead. I think it is a good decision, smaller is better, all the way around.

A sign of the times folks!

Getting better at bar trivia

Guest post written by Anna Bishop

When I first moved in with my roommates after college, we didn’t really have a whole lot in common. I guess maybe it was beacause we all only had mutual friends or mutual friends of mutual friends. But since then we’ve found something that unites us, bar trivia.

After a long day at work in the middle of the week, there’s nothing more that I love than totally beating a bunch of strangers with my knowledge of useless trivia. But I like to find different bar trivia places to go to each week. I was online looking up some of the better trivia places in Chicago when I ran across some info on Chicago wireless internet providers. After I looked through it some, I shwoed it to my roommates and we changed over our home internet service to it.

I think that our bar trivia skills are getting even better. It just so happens works that we all have a different area of expertise, so we know the answers to a whole bunch of the answers. If anything, it’s ecnomical because we win free drinks when we win!

I Like Free!

I like free stuff. I really enjoy going to Costco from time to time and spending an hour or two gazing at all of the goodies that they have there priced so cheaply, but in bulk, as well as taking advantage of all of the free samples that are to be found at the end of each aisle. It’s a good way to find out if you truly like a product before spending you hard earned money on it. The Food Court at the local usually has at least one resturant handing out free samples to lure you into there establishment. A great marketing strategy to be sure.

Some times I stumble onto good sites that I find on the Internet that offer free samples, freebies and free stuff and when I do I like to pass along the information here. So I’m encouraging folks to check out my latest find where you can find all types of freebies. Right now you can even find free cell phones, now how cool is that. Go to Freecatcher.com and see if you would be interested in some of their offers, I’ll bet you’ll find all types of cool deals to take advantage of. You just can’t beat FREE!

Squash – A Great Recipe for Summer Squash

I really enjoy getting all the veggies from people who have a garden and end up with more than they can handle so they start passing the extras to friends, family and co workers. I just received a nice basked of some yellow and green squash from one of my neighbors that I can’t wait to cook up. Squash has always been a favorite of mine and I have several different ways to cook it that I have always enjoyed preparing and serving during these hot summer months.

Many years ago I took a trip with my mother to Massachusetts, which is where she spent some time as a child and we visited several relatives all around the Boston area. One such relative served us a wonderful squash dish that I ranted and raved so much about she decided to go ahead and share the recipe with me to take home and try. So I thought that I might pass this wonderful recipe along for you to try, I hope you like it.

  • 2 lb (6) Cups) Sliced Yellow Summer Squash
  • 1/4 Cup Chopped Onion
  • 1 Can Cream of Chicken soup
  • 1 Cup Sour Cream
  • 1 Cup Shredded Carrots
  • 1 8 oz Herb Seasoned Stove Top Stuffing Mix
  • 1 cup Melted Butter

Boil Squash and onion for 5 minutes and drain. Combine chicken soup and sour cream. Stir in shredded carrots. Fold in squash and onions. Combine stuffing mix and melted butter. Use a 12 x 7 casserole dish. Put half of stuffing on the bottom of the pan, then the squash mixture and top with remaining stuffing. Bake at 350 degree for 25 – 30 minutes or until heated through.

Food Lion All Gone

I know that a lot of the local Food Lions switched over and are now called Blooms. I really thought that my Food Lion was safe from any changes. But today I found out that they are now planning on closing their doors permanently come the end of August. That really bites. I do most of my grocery shopping there and I have gotten to know so many of the employees and I will miss them dearly.
