Good Bye to The Yellow Pages

With car and home insurance being a must these days (and rightfully so) it only makes sense to find and to get the best bang for your buck. The Internet has made shopping around for prices so much easier, the days are gone that you had to call around from one agent to another in order to receive quotes from various companies. The good old Yellow Pages is becoming a thing of the past, online is the way to go for the majority of people these days.

I’ve been wanting to find some good quality but Cheap Van Insurance for my van. I need to try and tighten my purse strings a bit and have been utilizing the Internet to find the best deal possible. I want a low deductible, low premiums, but great customer service as well. My parents used to always say that you get what you pay for, and I have found that to be very true. So I’m asking around with some friends and family members as well to find out what they have to say about their insurance agents and companies. Hopefully I’ll be able to find something out in a few weeks, so that I can go ahead and make the switch before Christmas comes around and I find myself in a cash crunch.

That Darned Check Engine Light

I’ve noticed that my check engine light has been on for the past few weeks and I guess I really need to get it checked out in case it is something serious. God I hope not. It drives me crazy when that light comes on, I don’t always have time to take my Ford R-150 to an auto shop to see what is going on. Although most shops are not as busy as they would like to be, due to the economy, so the waiting time isn’t as bad as it used to be, but I still hate taking the time out of my busy schedule to tend to things such as this. It is never a quick fix and even with an appointment you still can end up waiting for way too long.

I’ve a friend who just started working at a nice local auto repair shop that tells me that busy has really slowed down and they are looking for business big time and is urging me to bring the truck to them this Saturday.  Since my friend is working there I feel confident that I will not be ripped off and will be taken seriously about the light issue and my financial situation at this point.

Ladies Night Out

Once in a blue moon I’ll go out with some friends to a bar/restaurant for dinner and drinks. I can’t afford to go out as often as I would like to, but we are all experiencing hard times at this point with the economy in crisis and all. I’m trying to save as much money as possible, when ever I can, so when we do head out we try and make it on a Ladies Night, where the drinks are  more affordable for all us.

Last week we decided it was due time for a ladies night out and we went to our favorite “hole in the wall” and had a blast. We had a designated driver and all went well. No fights broke out, no one got so drunk that they ended up throwing up in the ladies room or the parking lot and each of us were able to go to work the next morning without a hitch.

We really enjoy going to this “hole in the wall” bar/restaurant. The waitresses are always nice and the owners are really great people that are just trying to keep their doors open with the rising costs that they are having to deal with. So we don’t mind throwing our business to them, when we are able to. The only problem is that they don’t have any foot rails for the patrons that end up sitting at the bar, so much of the night was discussing the issue with the owners. I think we made our point, they have consented to looking into the matter for us. So the next time we go I hope that they will have found some that they can afford to have installed and we all should be happy!

Atlanta Georgia 55 Community

For so many years our senior citizens have flocked to Florida for a variety of reasons, the warm weather being the biggest draw. But with all things good there are some bad things. With this warm weather comes, bugs and other critters that enjoy the heat and humidity down in the Land of Sunshine. As well as the hurricanes that seem to love causing havoc all over that part of the country.

Then our seniors started heading to Arizona and New Mexico. That was a huge success, but so far away for so many folks. Then all of a sudden the Carolinas, both north and south became the popular destinations, but I fear they are filling up and now we are seeing an increase of folks heading to the beautiful state of Georgia. My folks are looking at a particular Atlanta 55 Community, which sounds promising for all concerned. I don’t really know a lot about the state of Georgia, but will start digging further online to find out more so I am more familiar with the area.

It will be so weird for my parents to be living so far south from here, but we all knew that it would happen in due time.

Today’s Gift Baskets, A Great Gift Idea!

I’ve come up with a perfect gift giving idea to present my manager with at work on Friday. She is turning fifty and we have been planning a surprise party for her for the past several weeks, it should be a blast. Surprise parties are the best, especially when they really turn out to be a real surprise, which I think we have been able to pull off so far.

My manager and her husband are the proud parents of a new baby girl, so they don’t get to go out as often as they are used to being able to do, so I found a great selection of movie gift baskets on the Internet that I think will really float her boat and that they will both enjoy together.

She had the baby shortly before Mother’s Day, so we all started looking online at some nice Mothers day gift baskets to take over to her (being the new mom and all) and her new family, which was a big hit and earned us all brownie points, it was a success and  worked out real well. She is a great lady and we want to keep her happy, which will keep us all happy in the long run.

Invitation Designing and Printing

A favorite cousin of mine is going to college to become a graphic designer and has been wanting experience as to how to print out. She came over to my house the other night during our family and friend get together and she was talking to us about her knowledge she soaked up from college, when all of a sudden everyone paused and turned to the center of the back deck and heard my brother finally propose to his now fiance. Shortly after everyone congratulating them on their new engagement, my brother had asked our cousin if she could help someone to customize their wedding invitations since shes attending school for just that. Needless to say she was up for the task and so excited to start looking for a printing business that she could maybe have a helping hand in creating.

She called me over to help her look online for any great deals, since two pairs of eyes are better then one. Being that she lives only a few houses down the road I walked over and sat down at her desk with her beside me and we started our search. It didn’t take long at all to find great wholesale printers to where she could do it herself but she ended up just designing their wedding invitations. My brother and soon to be sister in law are so please with the invitation design she had come up with.

You Go Girl!

My niece has always been very prepared for any physical threat that comes her way. I honestly can’t blame her tho, she used to assist in self defense classes with children and had picked up the habit of carrying a can of mase in her purse along the way, after hearing some terrifying stories of brutal beatings due to the lack of defense skills and mechanisms. Lately she’s been talking about possibly of purchasing a hand gun or even a stun gun for extra protection due to some peoples tolerance to mas.

So I thought we would search around on the net and try to find some affordable stun guns so that no matter what situation, nobody gets shot by a gun and possibly result in death. She thought it was a great idea, so we pursued the search. We came across a few standard stun guns that didn’t strike her attention. We kept on with the search, until she stopped me on a site that offered great quality and affordable safety girl stun guns. She pointed out one in particular that she really wanted so we ordered it and she is now constantly shooting the practice target poster board that came with her stun gun. She tells me she is feeling more confident of her and her loved ones safety now that she has her own stun gun. I’m down with that, you go girl!

Location, Location, Location . . .

I really don’t know what all the hoopla is about with not being able to use any information that is found on Wikipedia.org. I have been relying on Wikipedia for a very long time and have rarely come across anything questionable, not quite looking and/or sounding right. My niece was sharing with me on Face Book last night that she has an essay due next week and is having a hard time finding resources that are helpful and acceptable by her teacher. This teacher is telling her class that she will not accept anything turned in that used Wikipedia as a resource and/or a reference, which is something that just surprised me and caught me off guard at that moment.

Her school library doesn’t have the book she needs, nor do the 5 county libraries that are within an hour’s drive of her house has the book(s) either. They live way out in the boonies which is a pain in the rear – at least they do have Internet access, which several people in that little town don’t have at all. I just can’t image living out in the country. I need all my things right there, easy enough for me to get around efficiently enough.

Setting up an Online Store

There is a lovely couple in town trying to make a living selling tie dyed tee shirts and they are hoping to use the internet to help increase sales. The problem is that they do not know anything about the internet and they know nothing about finding e-commerce partners to help them set up their online store.

I like to stop by their store and look around once in while because each piece is a unique design and they are always making new things. Tie dye makes a fun gift for someone, and every time I wear tie dye around town I get compliments from fellow shoppers and the cashiers. The remarks are always positive and I think the shirts make people smile. The bright colors and unique designs are like a little burst of sunshine on a dreary winter day.

Today I stopped by their store and asked them if they were going to be making any yoga pants in a tie dye design? She said they had not realized that customers would like that and I showed her online a few styles that I like. People are starting to wear yoga pants around town because they are so comfortable and I think we are just getting tired of always wearing jeans. When I showed her the colors that I want, she promised to make a pair for me and a couple of extras to put on the rack and see if anyone else would be interested.

Then she showed me their new web site that a friend was helping them create. It’s still under construction but so far it looks really good! She told me that it took about 4 months to design and write everything they have so far, because the brick and mortar store is only closed one day a week and they are always so busy helping customers and creating the tie dye items. She said that the eCommerce portion was the last part they are working on. They had to take photographs of all their tie dye designs and write out descriptions to create an online catalog, and then they have to figure out how to add the shopping cart and payment processing.

I am so impressed with all the work they have put into this – I just know their store and their online store will be a great success.

Once A Month Is Enough For Me

It seems that there are a large amount of people that are suffering from digestive issues, what a drag. I know a lot of people that are dealing with stomach issues, mainly IBS, that are always looking for new products to help them ease the discomfort that goes along with this imbalance issue.

One of the ladies at work is trying the product of threelac that she found online. It is a natural solution for digestion candida and yeast imbalance control. She misses a couple of days a month due to her stomach woes, I can really feel for her. OMG once a month my gut is on fire for three to five days, I can’t imagine dealing with pain any more than that whole period deal.

As far as thrush goes, that’s a whole different story to share at a later time, ugh……
