Getting better at bar trivia

Guest post written by Anna Bishop

When I first moved in with my roommates after college, we didn’t really have a whole lot in common. I guess maybe it was beacause we all only had mutual friends or mutual friends of mutual friends. But since then we’ve found something that unites us, bar trivia.

After a long day at work in the middle of the week, there’s nothing more that I love than totally beating a bunch of strangers with my knowledge of useless trivia. But I like to find different bar trivia places to go to each week. I was online looking up some of the better trivia places in Chicago when I ran across some info on Chicago wireless internet providers. After I looked through it some, I shwoed it to my roommates and we changed over our home internet service to it.

I think that our bar trivia skills are getting even better. It just so happens works that we all have a different area of expertise, so we know the answers to a whole bunch of the answers. If anything, it’s ecnomical because we win free drinks when we win!

Disaster Date

I have been watching MTV more than usual lately. For a long time I had nothing to do with MTV or VH1, since the days of them playing music videos have long gone by the way side and the shows that had taken place of videos were pretty lame. But since I’ve started to watch The Jersey Shore on MTV I have seen a couple of pretty decent shows that I enjoy. My favorite being Disaster Date. These poor people are set up by their friends on a blind date and then they let the fun and the games begin.

Money Saving Tips On Prescription Eye Glasses

I just got back from getting my annual eye exam and now I armed with a prescription and searching for a cheap pair of prescription eyeglasses. My eye doctor told me that Ican get good quality prescription eyeglasses online at ZenniOptical.com so I’m going to take his advice and take a look and see if I can find a pair that I like there.

I’ve actually heard about Zenni Optical before. I saw a clip online not too long ago about a book that was recently written by the money expert Clark Howard, who spends his time finding ways to save money and passing those tips along to consumers. I remember that one of his hot picks on that clip was Zenni Optical and their massive selection of eye wear available for online shoppers. And since my eye doctor seems to think that Zenni Optical is OK, who am I to argue?

With money being so tight still for so many of us we can all use money saving tips. I think that I will take a look and see if I can find the book by Clark Howard that I saw on that clip. Maybe they have a copy of it at the library that I can check out for free for a couple of weeks.

“EYES ON THE PRIZE” TOUCHES THE SOUL

Thanks to Roman May

What started out as a typical movie night at a girlfriend’s house, ended up in a historical lesson neither of us will ever forget. That night the Public Broadcasting Station began the airing of the documentary “Eyes on the Prize”. This is an award winning documentary about the American Civil Rights Movement and covers the period from 1954 to 1985.

The documentary is a series lasting 14 hours. My girlfriend would record the program from her directstartv.com and we would parcel it out over seven viewings. Be prepared, it will hook you and you will find a way to watch all 14 hours.

There were so many aspects of the documentary that fascinated the history buff in me, naming one is impossible. The power of one to ignite action as shown through the footage of the Montgomery Bus Boycott sparked by the arrest of Rosa Parks for refusing to give up her bus seat to a white person was inspiring. How can you forget the footage of the hanging of Emmett Till, a 14 year old boy, because of his color? The documentary is filled with various aspects of the movement including the Freedom Rides, passage of the Voting Rights Act, and, of course, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Eyes on the Prize” leaves an impression on your soul. That’s why it is my favorite.

I’m Excited About The Prospect of Attending the 2012 Olympics, London

I can’t believe that I had not heard, up until now at least, that the 2012 Olympics are scheduled to be held in London. Wow, England is having a very busy time of i,t as of late, what with the recent Royal wedding that will take some time for the place to get over that spectacular event and next thing you know that place will become busy as ever preparring for the Olympics.

I have never been a real big fan of the Olympics but attending one in person is a whole nother matter. So I am starting to think that there is chance of me making a trip overseas and getting into the Olympics scene, London style. I have always wanted to take a trip over to Europe, I mean really, who hasn’t? There is still time to save up some money, get a few other people involved as well to go, which will help reduce the cost just a bit. Not a big group of people mind you, the more people you have involved the more complicated things get so I’m thinking that a group of 3 or 4 would be perfect so I need to think of who would want to go, who will behave themselves and still have fun and who can afford the trip as well.

I have some friends, Bill and Mary, that love to travel. The last trip they took, they rented one of those lovely, enchanting apartments in Puerto Pollensa and had a great time, bringing home more pictures that a person has a right to have. I can’t figure out how they managed to do everything that they claim that they did with all of the picture taking going on with them this time. It seems that Bill has just got a nice new fairly expensive camera for Christmas and he was trying to break it in, O.K. now who believes that a camera needs to be broken in for goodness sake? Seriously, they must have at least 1000 pictures from a one week vacation, that is a lot of picture taking going on there folks.

Bill and Mary have already been talking and researching their next trip to the largest island of Greece, Crete. They are planning on renting a holiday villas in Crete and are looking fora few other folks that would like to go along with them. I’m not all that crazy about going to Greece, but maybe I can talk them in going there the following year and go to London with me instead. They would be great to travel with, the three of us have gotten long really good for over 16 years now so I don’t think that they would ruin the trip with a bunch of petty trivia that a lot of couples go through and end up doing. What a waste of everyone’s time, money and energy, which are three things that I don’t want to give up easily for a no good, no account reason, right?

Guess I’ll start looking around a bit online and see what is what over there. I don’t know anything about England, but I’m willing and able to learn, so I have a lot to learn for this exciting event that is something that I’ve wanted to do ever since I can remember. At least I don’t have to learn another language, but will have to brush up on some of their customs and stuff like that. I’m getting excited about it all, I hope that I can make it happen.

Those Wacky Scrubs Wearing Medical Professionals On [scrubs]

I remember the first time that I watched the popular TV show [scrubs], I wasn’t impressed. Their type of wacky humor just didn’t float my boat, in fact it was a major turn off, so much so that I didn’t give the show a second chance for over a year. But as time went by and I would once in a while be hard pressed for something to watch and ended up watching a few episodes now and then, here and there and now I’m pretty much a hard core fan. Watching these corn ball medical professionals running around in all their scrub uniforms, playing havoc with one another in such wacky off the wall situations, not only in their work environment at the hospital, but off the clock as well, just cracks me up.

I’m wondering if that show helped inspired the medical field to wear uniforms that aren’t just the normal green scrubs that we all have seen them wear in the past. Now a days they have such a wide selection of medical uniforms that they can wear for a much better variety for them to choose from, which I think is great. I don’t think I could wear the same thing day after day, year after year. After all variety is the spice of life. I love it when I see someone in Pediatrics and they are sporting a cute Disney or Winnie The Pooh scrub on and I’m sure that the kids like it better as well. Anything that helps make it easier for the kids (and the staff) is worth it, right?

Facebook vs. MySpace

I had a friend over today and she took the time to show me around her Facebook pages and taught me a few things that will be good to know when I finally decide to plunge in and open my own account. I have to say that I think MySpace is a lot cooler, so I’m not sure what all the fuss is about with Facebook.

Facebook

My friends have been bugging me to start utilizing Facebook. So one of my New Year’s resolutions is to take the plunge into the Facebook social network. But I’ll still be keeping up my blog, I’ll keep you posted. Hope Christmas was a good one folks, I’m glad it’s over for this year, next year will be here soon enough.

Let The Games Begin

I just heard that the Redskins are gearing up for tomorrow which will be their first pre-season game of this up and coming professional football season. I can’t believe that football season is so close to starting all ready. Next thing you know it will be Thanksgiving and then of course Christmas will be consuming us all in no time. Really the only good thing about fall and winter is football, I’m glad that I have subscribed to the sunday ticket with my satellite provider, Direct TV. I always enjoy having friends over on Sunday’s for a good game and a good time with plenty of munchies and loads of cold beer. I have a good sized flat screen TV that makes watching the games a much better experience then it was before I invested in a big screen like I did.

My good friend, Donna from work also enjoys football, she has the Cox cable sports package and she likes to have people over on Monday for the Monday games, so it works out real well for everyone involved. We have a lot in common, other than just working at the same place and we have become pretty darn good friends these past couple of years.

So which ever is the most convenient – be it cable sports or satellite sports between the two of us we’ve got it covered. I hope the Redskins start the year with a major win over the Buffalo Bills, guess we will find out tomorrow, let the games begin!

Less Can Be More

My best friend is very pleased with her new make up products that she ordered online. They are the Bare Escentuals Products that I have seen advertised on TV in the middle of the night from time to time. See says that you only have to use the bare minimum and that it is good for your skin. You can even sleep with it on and it doesn’t mess up your skin like other heavy make up does.

I’m thinking next time I have a few extra bucks that I’ll check into as well. I’m sick of my make up regiment and am due for a change.
