Chilly Sunday

Well if this crazy weather doesn’t give everyone pneumonia, nothing will.  I was running around the yard getting up the last of the leaves in nothing but a pair of jeans and a t-shirt yesterday and it’s down right chilly today.  I guess I shouldn’t complain since the weather cooperated so well yesterday.

The bad thing is there are people everywhere with the flu.  I have been trying to avoid anyone with the sniffles because the last thing I need is the flu but if the weather keeps flip-flopping like it has been, there’s going to be a lot more sick people to try to avoid.  Hopefully one of those won’t be me or anyone close to me either.  I don’t have time to be sick.

I have started taking extra vitamin C and vitamin D.  Everyone is saying that will help boost your immune system.  I usually take about 1000 units of vitamin C every day through the winter and drop that down to 500 units other times.  I’m usually pretty darn healthy too.  Now watch me get sick since I said that!!!  I better not.

Christmas lights

I guess I’m a bit home sick this year.  My Dad used to put Christmas lights up every year and just pitch a fit about it.  We all knew he really enjoyed it because once they all were up, and working, he would stand back and look at the house with a look of pride at his accomplishment.

I said the Schmitt House!
I said the Schmitt House!

Well I decided I want to put up Christmas lights this year.  Thank God they aren’t as much of a pain as they used to be years ago.  One bulb goes out and the whole strand went dead.  Not to mention, I have had to buy all new lights since this is my first time putting them up.

I have seen some amazing light displays on the internet that play music and the lights dance to the music.  A strand or two here and there is all I’m up for!  So, let us have the decorating begin.   No my house isn’t going to look like the Schmitt either although my BFF would certainly enjoy witnessing such an event!!! Thanks for sending this great Christmas cartoon to me Lori! And I look forward to talking to you real soon!

Thanksgiving is almost here

Now that I have moved out from my parents house, Thanksgiving just isn’t the same.  I don’t get to go home every year either.  That’s the worst part of growing up I think.

I remember how amazing the house smelled the day before and the day of Thanksgiving.  Mom would start making potato salad or macaroni, deviled eggs and all of those cakes and pies the day before Thanksgiving.  Then on Thanksgiving day, she would get up way before any of us even thought of getting up to start the turkey and ham.

By the time we all woke up, she had it all in the oven and we would wake up starving because the house smelled so good.  We usually ate around 2 and the table to overflowing with food.  Green beans, corn, yeast rolls, and some years, we had roast duck instead of turkey.  Oh how I miss those days!!!  I can still smell my mothers cooking when I think about Thanksgiving.

Fish tanks

A friend of mine was moving and decided that he did not have room for the fish tank he had. I was a little hesitant at first but after some thinking I decided to take the tank off his hands. The tank was a 55 gallon one and came with two fish. I knew it would be a lot of work but I was ready for the challenge.

After a fair amount of work, we got the tank set up in our home. It sits in a prominent place in our living room. The tank is beautiful and is a wonderful addition to our home. We have added some fish to the tank and it has really brought our family together.

Topping a baby

Since our family always seems to be growing, we have a lot of discussions about our babies. One issue that came up recently was Newborn Hats. I know it may seem trivial too many people, but it is an important part of helping a baby grow up strong and healthy. My sisters agree that hats for babies are more than a trend and that they are very necessary.

Baby hats serve many purposes. They keep the baby warm when it’s cold out and provide our child with a bit of character. The hats provide shelter from the wind, sun, and colder temperatures. Hats can also be a bit of fun as we have some hats for Christmas, some for Halloween, and some for New Years Eve. We take them wherever we go and they always seem to be a topic of conversation.

This is one of the many Baby Issues we talk about every day in our home. We try our best to keep updated on all the different trends. In the end, it always seems to come down to what makes sense and what works for our particular baby. It’s always a work in progress for us. We consider ourselves to be good parents, but then again, so does everyone else.

Road trip

I recently went on a road trip to visit some old friends of mine. Their names are skip and Barbara and they live on a farm in central Virginia. While I know how to get there fairly well, (I have been there before). It can be a difficult place to find. They live on a gravel road and they always tell me to look for a red fence. The problem is that there are many red fences in the area.

I mentioned to Skip that he might want to consider getting some personalized address plaques for his home. It would be so much easier to know for sure where to turn. I found a site online that has many residential address plaques for sale. They are fairly cheap and make a nice addition to any location. Allowing visitors to your home to find it easily will make everyone happy.

Skip was glad for the advice and said that he would look into the situation right away. His wife Barbara also liked the idea. they seemed to decide that the bronze address plaques would be best for them. I rest assured that the next time I visit them I will be able to find them without a problem. This makes a lot of difference even though it is a small improvement. I wish everything was as easy as this.
