Mayan Calendar

Okay, let the fun begin apparently.  I’m sure I’m not the only one that is totally sick of this Mayan calendar stuff.  Someone please tell me how an ancient civilization, though ahead of their time they were, are supposed to know when the world will end.  Heck they aren’t even around anymore so they must not have been too smart.  If they had been, they would have known their people would not be around.

Anyway, then there’s the 12/12/12 thing.  People are saying that’s supposed to be a good luck day but 12/21/12 is supposed to be the end.  Come on people!!!  We are supposed to be intelligent.  But just in case you believe in the end, I will be glad to help you disperse your stuff.  Just send it to me!!!

Driving me mad

Their was an article in the news about how women who live in Saudi Arabia are being punished for driving to the store. In this day and age, it seems very unreasonable that women would get in trouble for so simple a task. I know our culture is different from theirs, but it just isn’t right.

Women should be allowed to drive no matter what country they live in. they should have all the rights a man has as a matter of fact. If women cannot be equal partners in this world, then some people should reconsider their religion.

Extra Time for Procrastinators

Today would have been the deadline for filing taxes, but the Government has given everyone an extra 3 days this year. All the procrastinators who wait until the last day taxes are due can now enjoy the weekend and put off doing taxes until Monday, the 18th.

This is a nice way to spend the weekend – unfiled taxes hanging over your head – NOT.

Guns and the Swiss

It seems that the country of Switzerland has a very high suicide rate. The problem is that many Swiss people carry guns on a regular basis. The army allows people to bring their weapons home even after they are done with their military service. This has been a point of contention for some.

A measure that would have placed restrictions on guns failed to pass. It would have required that the guns be kept in armories instead of at home. Meanwhile, suicide rates continue to remain high. It seems that the Swiss love their guns and want to keep them.

Good news from Texas

I love hearing from my sister whenever I can. Ever since she moved to Texas, I don’t see her as much as I used to. We used to be very close and I miss her a lot. I do get to talk to her on the phone from time to time in order to catch up on the latest gossip. This time was a little more interesting than most as she told me about the legal trouble she was having.

Her ex-husband was late on his child support payments and it was not looking good. He wanted to dramatically cut his payments. Luckily, she has an Austin family lawyer to help her out. It has helped her to stay calm during these trying times.
