The Internet is Truly International
I never thought that I would need an online translation service for anything in my life, but the more I am on the internet, the more I realize just how international we really are. Even with something like Facebook, I have added new friends from a variety of countries. I have a musician friend who lives in the Czech Republic and also know a photographer there who has a wonderful photoblog.
He suggested another photoblog that is run by a French photographer, and I needed service de traduction to navigate her site. Everything on her blog is in French and if I want to make a comment on her work, I need to be able to write in French without sounding like an idiot.
These photoblogs are really interesting. Most of the photographers take a picture of something in their every day life and post it on their site. They take photos all year around, with people walking in the rain, shoveling snow, picking flowers or riding the commuter train. The German photoblog shows street scenes in Berlin and I needed Übersetzungsdienst to read his comments and respond back.
These people do amazing work and put it on the internet to share with the world for free. I admire them and look forward to learning more about life in other parts of the world through their photographs.
Home on the Range
Today I called my mom to wish her Happy Mother’s Day since I found out she won’t be home tomorrow. My sister was there with her kids, so she got on the phone to say hi. Since she is a mother, too, I wished her happy Mother’s Day and we chatted for a few minutes. It seems like we never talk much anymore since she moved to Florida a couple of years ago. But it sounds like Florida isn’t working out – she might be moving again.
When my sister told me she is thinking about moving to Texas, all I could think of was the song, “Home, Home on the Range.” Visions of cowboys and cowgirls and horses sprang to mind. While I was processing the visions of dusty trails, she was rattling on about Dallas Homes for Sale and how much she wants to move west.
I’m the first one to admit that I know nothing about Dallas Real Estate and I couldn’t help with much except showing up a day or tow before she gets a moving truck so I can help her pack and move her stuff.
I asked her if the Dallas Homes For Sale were anything like the one she used to have in Virginia, and she says that they have plenty of nice neighborhoods all around the Dallas and Fort Worth areas like her old neighborhood. It’s just a matter of knowing where you are going to be working, so you can focus on finding something nice near the office or job site. Sorry to say that I can’t help with that, either. But it sounds like she has got the ball rolling and everything is under control.
Blame the Armadillos
Read an interesting report on the Yahoo Science page this morning. Scientists have traced the DNA of many recent leprosy cases and have proven that the disease was transmitted from armadillos. A relatively rare condition in today’s world, leprosy is very contagious and difficult to treat.
Armadillos are very common throughout Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, but have been seen in neighboring states, such as Oklahoma, Mississippi and even Tennessee. Officials are warning people to not handle armadillos, even if dead, to avoid the risk of contracting leprosy.
Helping Don
I am always glad to help someone out when I can. That’s why I jumped at the chance to help out my friend Don when he wanted to buy a car. He knows that I know a lot about cars and so he asked for some advice. I told him I could help him pick out the right car for him. I look at it as fun as I like to keep up with the current car buying trends. I set to work right away and came up with some cars I thought he might like.
The first car I suggested was the Bentley Mulsanne. It is a true luxury car and would make nearly anyone happy. While Don agreed with me that the car was nice, he thought it might be a little pricey for him. I went back to work and came up with a few more ideas. The toyota sienna is a very nice car as well. When it comes to quality, there is nothing like a toyota to count on for reliability.
There are always a lot of options when it comes to cars. Another idea I had was that Don may want to consider purchasing a smart car. While they are tiny, they are easy on gas and can be parked even in the tightest of spots. I had fun helping Don out and hope he will enjoy his new car as much as I enjoyed finding one for him.
Airport Hotels
I think that nearly everybody who travels is afraid of the dreaded cancellations happen from time to time. They are happening more and more often and have become a major source of contention with the public. The airports have taken measures to ease the problem by implementing programs designed to make life easier for stranded travelers.
Airports are now beginning to accommodate passengers who are stranded in their airports. They are offering meals as well as accommodations to those who are stranded. I think this is a good idea and it is only right that airports should take care of people
Warm it up!!
I was reading an article today that was talking about how it was unnecessary to warm up your car before driving it. I guess I’m old- fashioned and I for one still believe that it’s good to warm up the car before driving it. I know I like to get into a warm car when it’s cold out.
I guess ill consider what the article is saying as many experts apparently believe that idling a car is wasteful. I don’t really know myself, but I believe I’ll continue the practice until the day that I die: or run out of gas!!
No Snow
Since the winter weather is setting in, I was thinking that maybe I needed to get out of the area for awhile. It would be nice to take a break from the snow and go somewhere else. The only real problem I had was deciding where I wanted to go. I was talking with a friend at work and he mentioned that there were many resorts in Myrtle Beach that were very nice. I liked the idea and decided to check it out.
The first break I got, I went online and started looking around. I found a site called http://avistaresort.com. The site described all the great things about visiting that area and their proximity to the many golf courses that are there. I thought that it would really be nice to play some golf while I was there.
I guess my mind was pretty well made up that I would go on vacation soon. I just had to find the right Myrtle Beach hotel for me. I knew that wouldn’t be hard and I did it easily. I am looking forward to my vacation and to having a break. I know I will have a great time and that I will come back refreshed and ready to face the snow again.
My Wardrobe
One thing that happens from time to time at work is that I have to go and deal with some customers. I never know where I’ll end up and so it can be difficult to decide what to pack. One item that was missing in my wardrobe was Shoes. My old ones were getting worn and I thought that I might want to have some new ones to wear in case I went to somewhere where formal dress was required.
I always dislike going to the mall and so I decided to try and find some shoes online. That’s when I came across a site called zappos.com. That’s where I found a nice collection of Cole Haan shoes. As soon as I found the site, I knew I had found what I wanted. The items for sale were of high quality and the prices were reasonable.
Since I was already shopping, I decided to look around some more. I saw that they had a nice variety of Belts. I figured that I might as well get a belt while I was at it. Now I can pack my bag with confidence. I know I’ll be ready for whatever comes up. That’s always a good feeling and now I’m off to watch some football.
An important decision
One thing that is very important in our lives is the car we drive. That’s why it’s so important to find the right one when the time comes to purchase a new one. It’s not a decision that should be taken lightly and one should ensure that they consider all the available options. My friend John is looking for a new car and I have volunteered to help him out.
We went to many car lots to see what we liked. We took a look at many of the cars out there. There were a few that caught our eye. One that I would mention was the Buick Lucerne. It had a lot of the options my friend was looking for and we both liked its style and appeal. Another car that we both liked was the Hyundai Accent. We both knew it would be a very practical car for the money.
The last car that we wanted to see was the Volkswagen Gti. I am pretty sure that this is the car my friend will settle on. We are still going to look around some more and see if we can find more info on the best cars to buy. The process has been long and arduous, but I know it will be worth the trouble in the end.
