Foreign bug invasion

One area where the government needs to do better is the area of bug invasion. Every year, the ports in Los Angeles and New York allow foreign insects to enter the United States. While some of the insects don’t have a large impact on our environment, others do. One example is the Asian Longhorn Beetle.

This beetle kills thousands of trees in our forests every year. The economic damage to our forests could be in the millions of dollars per year. Some measures will soon be implanted to stop the bugs in their tracks. I hope that inspections and treatments at the border will be effective. If they aren’t, we could be in real trouble.

Grants

I like to work on projects. One project I have been working on lately is helping a friend of mine get his business started. His name is Bob and he knows all about fishing. He wanted to sell the fishing lures he makes on the internet. We have spent a lot of time putting the site together and it has been a success so far. We were hoping that we could do a little better next year and were looking for ways to expand.

One thing we wanted was a little more capital for advertising. The problem was that neither of us had the kind of money we needed. That’s when we started looking into the possibility of receiving one of the small business grants that were available online. Though we didn’t know it, there are a number of small business grants that can be had for those who own businesses.

We found a site called businessgrants.org that has a lot of information on how to find a grant. I couldn’t believe that so many small business grants were available. There is a lot of money available for those who can find it. The site provided many ideas on how to get the grants that we needed. I’m glad there are sites like this that can help people when they need it.

Homes for sale

One area of the economy that was really hit hard recently was home sales. It seems that everyone wants to sell their house, but there are few buyers. Home prices fell again in August leading to disappointment for many sellers. Experts believe that the market may be depressed for some time.

The Obama administration is doing what it can to improve the situation, but there is little they can do when the problem is so large. It seems that only time will provide a cure and the housing market will regain its former zing.

The aftermath

Ever since one of the largest oil spills ever, a recent report showed how the Obama administration handled the situation. The report states that administration played down the effects of the spill and was late in their initial reaction to it. The report also says that politics played a role in how the spill was handled.

Many people who feel strongly about the issue will be affected by the report in the coming elections. The white house denied the results of the report and said the situation was handled correctly. I just hope this kind of spill never happens again.

Tax Cuts

One thing that has been in the news lately is tax cuts. With the election upcoming very soon, both republicans and democrats are trying to find ways to score votes with the voters. The tax cuts that were put in by former president Bush will expire next year. The republicans want to extend that time period.

The only problem I see is that the country owes a lot of money. By giving out tax breaks, will we be able to pay our debts? I would sure like to pay less, but I think the deficit is far too large and needs to be addressed. I hope the two sides can find an answer!

My Car

There are many things that are important in life. One thing that really stands out is the ability to get around. Being able to drive where I want gives me a lot of freedom. I like to be able to drive to the supermarket any time I want. That’s why my car is so valuable to me. There are many things I do to keep my car in good condition.

I like taking care of my car. I am always sure to change the oil every 5,000 miles. I also take the car in for regular inspections when they are due. I feel better knowing that my car is in tip-top mechanical shape. As the car itself, I always like to keep it as clean as possible. I try to wash it whenever it is needed and I can be found giving it a good vacuuming on Saturday.

Another important aspect of keeping my car in good shape is the gas I use. I always use premium gas when I fill up. I feel that helps keep the engine clean and gives me some extra horsepower when it is needed. One other important thing is having good car insurance. I like knowing that I am protected in case of an accident. Well, that’s the story on my car; I hope you all do the same for yours!

The Poor

It seems that the economic downturn has affected many people in negative ways. One thing that is happening is that the number of poor people in the country is increasing. A new study found that the poverty rate of Americans is increasing alarmingly. The news is expected to play a role in the upcoming elections.

For many people, jobs will be at the top of the list when they go to the voter’s booth. The stagnant job growth has worried investors as well as kept many people worried about the future. I hope that America can overcome this adversity and become the great nation we once were.

A trip

Recently, I had to escort a friend to the hospital. She had cut her hand on a piece of glass and it was pretty bad. Anyway, I had quite a long wait while she was being attended too and I happened to strike up a conversation with one of the nurses. I had noticed that her uniform was a little out of the ordinary but that it looked really cool. She told me that she was wearing what is called a fashion scrub. She had ordered it online from the internet.

She told me that the nurses were responsible for buying their own uniforms. She also said that rather than wear a typical hospital nurse uniform, she wanted something that would stand out. Price was also a consideration when she determined to buy one. She told me that many of the nurses and doctors were now ordering their own stuff from the site.

The job that doctors and nurses do is very hard. Having something to wear that makes them happy is important. Many of them purchase their own medical scrub sets in order to set themselves apart from everyone else. I liked the idea of it and told her so. Finally, my friend came out and it was time to go, but I’ll always remember the conversation I had with that nurse.

We remember

Today marks the anniversary of a day that will live in the American conscious forever. The attacks on September 11 have been etched into the minds of our people and will never be forgotten. The sudden and tragic deaths of over 3,000 people helped forged our nation together and has made us stronger in the face of terrorism.

The president spoke today and reminded the American people that we are not at war with Islam; we are at war with those who would pervert that wonderful religion. I know that many people around the world joined together for a moment of silence in remembrance of those who gave their lives for their country.

Mortgages

As the economy is still uncertain, many people are worried about the future. This has led to a drop in the mortgage rates around the country. For the tenth time in eleven weeks, the rates have fallen. They are on par with the lowest rates ever recorded. This has also led many people to begin refinancing their homes.

The low mortgage rates are enticing many people into seeking the lower rates. The bad news is that the new low rates are still not helping the slumping housing markets. Home sales are still low and they don’t seem to be improving anytime soon.
