Years down the road

Even though the economy is still a little slow, our company is looking ahead and expanding where we can. This decision has led us to build new offices in a few select cities. The company has selected me to help plan out the cabling installation in the new buildings. I have been working with the architects and others to ensure the new space will have adequate telephone and data lines.

The task has been a challenge to say the least. Some of the buildings are very large and have multiple floors. Trying to figure out how the spaces will be used has been the key problem. I have been working with the data cabling installers to find ways to ensure that our future needs will be met with ease. We are adding extra space to the system so that we can add or subtract new lines to provide for changes in how the building is used.

Our company is completely dependant on the use of telephones. Without phones, we are dead in the water. This has led us to deal with the issue of redundancy. That is, ensuring that our system has backup capabilities in case something goes wrong. I have worked with the cable contractor on this issue and am satisfied that our system is sound. The project has been hectic at times, but all in all has been fun. I hope to see the results of my labors in the near future and for years down the road.

Four in one!

One thing my family and I love to do is go out to eat. The problem is that we are fairly new to the area and don’t know where everything is as yet. We know there are restaurants out there; we just don’t know the best ones for us. I was looking for a solution to the problem when I heard about a website that can direct us to the best local restaurants. The site is called local.com and here is how it works.

The site is a search engine. The good thing about it is that it is a combination of four different sites, each of which contributes to the whole. The site is a conglomeration of Citysearch.com, Superpages.com, Yellowpages.com, and Yelp.com. When accessing the site, you can utilize the local yellowpages to find phone numbers, or use the local search feature to find local area businesses.

Now that I have been using the site, I save a lot of time choosing where I want to go. The old method of trial and error is out, and the new way is in. I also like the fact that I am supporting my local area businesses and building the economy in my area. The whole thing has been a win-win situation for me and my family.

Help for Heidi

My of my good friends Bob was telling me about a site he and his children use whenever they need Math help. It’s a site called tutornext.com that provides an Online Tutor at a low price. His daughter Heidi is currently in 12th grade and will be entering college in the fall. While her grades are very good overall, her weak spot is the subject of math. Luckily for her, there is help for her when she needs it.

The site provides her with a Math Tutor who can work with her one on one. She can send in her questions and receive the answers and explanations in a timely fashion. Another great thing about the site is that she never has to leave the house and can do it in her own time. That makes it very convenient for her as she doesn’t have to drive to some class for the answers she needs.

I think this is a great tool for any kid who is in K-12 and on through college. They can take advantage of the Math Problem Solver feature or contact Math Tutors Online. I know the importance of doing well in math as it will come in handy all through your life and your working career. I am glad that Heidi is doing better now and wish her all the best during her college years.

Overcoming Difficulties

Life is full of difficult times. My daughter is going through one of them at school. She recently entered college and has been doing well. Everything was going fine until she ran into the subject of statistics. It seems that no matter how hard she tries, she cannot master the material. Since I was unable to help her, we knew we had to find another method of helping her out.

She started going to a tutor at school. That worked out well for a while, but the problem was that it was hard for her to set up a time that was convenient for her. Transportation to the center was another problem. Luckily, I found a site online where she could get the Statistics tutor she needed. The site is called tutorvista.com and it has been the answer we were looking for.

Since she started taking advantage of the service, she has been receiving the Statistics help she has been longing for. It is easy and fits her schedule as it is available all day and at night too. She is no longer afraid to take on even the toughest Statistics problems and has been outperforming her classmates. It’s good to know that my daughter is going to succeed in school thanks to the internet!

BitDefender Deadlock

There is some bad news for people who use the BitDefender anti-virus software who happen to also have 64-bit Windows. A recent update caused major disruptions for these users when BitDefender quarantined several Windows files as infected. Users have complained that they can no longer boot up their machines or use any files.

BitDefender has announced that they have a fix for the problem and are working to help customers fix the damage caused. They also advise that users can use Last Known Good Configuration or System Restore top return their computer to normalcy. They also advise customers to disable BitDefender until a final update that will fix the problem for good.

Free up the Internet!

One item in the news recently was President Barack Obama’s call for China to allow its citizens more access to the internet. Under the current Chinese administration, the people of China are severely limited in the material they can view. The government controls what can be seen and blocks many western sites from its peoples view.

I hope that the great country of China will realize that true power is given to the government by the people. I hope they will reconsider their efforts to control every facet of their citizen’s lives.

Fined Monopoly

In today’s USA Today paper is says that Intel was fined a record breaking amount of $1.45 Billion dollars for illegal monopolistic business practices in Europe. I cannot image having over a Billion dollars available in the bank to pay such a huge fine. But it is obvious that Europe takes this type of thing very seriously. American companies need to learn how to do business in other countries without using all the same shady practices they get away with here in the U.S.

Another Rainey Weekend

It really stinks to work hard all week and look forward to a big weekend full of plans for outdoor fun and then have it all ruined by two days of rain.

Every weekend in May and the rest of the summer months ahead has a variety of fun things to do outside, from fishing to races and tons of festivals and sporting events.

Yesterday I had to stay in and got a lot of chores done instead of having fun. I was hoping to go to a baseball game this afternoon, but thunder and lightning will keep me indoors instead. I guess I’ll do some paperwork and surf the internet for a while, then break out a good book and read for a few hours.

Not Again!!

Every one knows how much I rely on my printer. I use it nearly every day as I have many documents to print. I usually bring home some of my work and need to have it done. The problem is that once again, I am out of ink! Ink cartridges are the bane of my life. They are constantly running out.

I don’t know how they get away with putting a tiny amount of ink in each refill. There should be a law or something. I know that if I ever get to heaven, the printer will never run out of ink again!!
