Just as the sun is going down, the rabbits come out to play. There must be twenty rabbits in our neighborhood. They have quite the party every night in my front yard. When I come out the front door to take the trash out or do something outside, they scatter in 20 different directions. It is funny to see so much hysteria just because I step out of my door.
Fined Monopoly
In today’s USA Today paper is says that Intel was fined a record breaking amount of $1.45 Billion dollars for illegal monopolistic business practices in Europe. I cannot image having over a Billion dollars available in the bank to pay such a huge fine. But it is obvious that Europe takes this type of thing very seriously. American companies need to learn how to do business in other countries without using all the same shady practices they get away with here in the U.S.
Another Rainey Weekend
It really stinks to work hard all week and look forward to a big weekend full of plans for outdoor fun and then have it all ruined by two days of rain.
Every weekend in May and the rest of the summer months ahead has a variety of fun things to do outside, from fishing to races and tons of festivals and sporting events.
Yesterday I had to stay in and got a lot of chores done instead of having fun. I was hoping to go to a baseball game this afternoon, but thunder and lightning will keep me indoors instead. I guess I’ll do some paperwork and surf the internet for a while, then break out a good book and read for a few hours.
Happy father’s day Dad!
I just wanted to give a little history on the origins of Father’s day. The original idea came from a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd who wanted to honor her dad as well as all the dads out there. The day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June every year.
To my Dad I just wanted to let him know that I love him so much! My dad is always kind and generous to all the people he meets. He has been able to raise his children with the help of mom and we all turned out pretty good. Way to go Dad!
Watch Out!
Usually I am pretty even tempered, but there are a few things that will make me lose my cool. One of those things is people who drive while talking on their cell phones. These persons make driving a lot more dangerous than it needs to be. I don’t know how many times I have been cut off, nearly sideswiped, or stopped short because of their distraction.
The other day it happened again. I was making a left when another driver pulled right in front of me. I could clearly see the driver was on the phone and not paying attention. The lady realized her mistake and waved at me apologetically, but that was of little comfort being as that she almost wrecked me.
Occasionally the subject will come up in front of the lawmaking body. Each time it does, I always add my support to those who wish to make this practice illegal. I think it is very dangerous and I am certain that it has been the cause of many accidents and injuries. I vote against cell phones in cars!
Ethanol, Good or Bad?
I have been reading a lot about ethanol lately. Many people are counting on it to help reduce greenhouse emissions. By growing corn and turning it into fuel, we have reduced our dependency on fossil fuels. The problem is how much energy are we actually saving? It takes a lot of energy to grow, transport, and process the corn. By the time were done, we have used almost as much energy as we are trying to save.
Another problem associated with ethanol is that it causes food prices to rise. By transferring production of corn to fuel use, there is less to sell as food. Some third world countries are really feeling the pinch. There have even been riots over the situation. I hope that we can find an answer to this problem that will satisfy us all!
Big Weekend
Around here, Memorial Day is a huge holiday. Not only do all the governemnt and military offices take the holiday very seriously to recognize the contributions and sacrifices of our servicemen, servicewomen and their families, but this is also the unofficial start of summer.
Tonight on the way home from work I stopped at the gas station to fill up and the place was jamming with people at every pump. People were getting an early start on the weekend by getting gas, buying beer and those cheap styrofoam coolers, and grabbing big bags of ice from the convenience store freezers.
Since the weather is supposed to be sunny and hot, this is the perfect weekend to find a beach and get a start on our summer tans.
Robots Rock
Robots are here to stay, but we don’t have much use for personal robots yet. I would really like to have an R2D2 robot and a C3PO to help me out. There are a lot of things I could have a robot do for me that I would rather not have to handle myself.
I guess the closest thing to a personal robot is the Roomba vacuum cleaner. My sister has one and loves it. It cleans the floors by itself and does great on everything except stairs.
Embracing a Bald Head
My hair will grow back and I have no intentions of staying bald. In fact, it kinda freaks me out to see my bald head in the mirror when I walk into the bathroom. But some guys have embraced being bald – especially the aging rock stars and guys who want to use their heads as a social statement.
Pot of Gold
Wouldn’t it be totally cool if there really were little men running around that would grant you a wish or give you a big pot of gold if you were lucky enough to catch one? I think the very idea really appeals to every hunter and fisherman out there!
So here’s a wish that you find your pot of gold someday, and by the way, Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!
