YouTube

Okay, YouTube is one of the best things invented on the internet. I have seen so many crazy video’s as well as instructional ones and the music too. Now they have movies and such for free. That is just awesome. I watched a video on how to fix my truck if the water pump goes out. It had step by step instructions, by some guy who was fixing his. After watching that I decided to see what else there was for fixing my truck and found so much that I could practically build one from the bottom up. That is totally cool. The information highway as they call it, is a perfect description.

For now though, I believe I will stick to funny videos and music, but it is nice to know that I can find instructions on stuff as well. Maybe I should make some video’s about gardening. I saw some on there for growing stuff already, why can’t I do it too. I think the wife would really love that. It is a project we can work on together and she can show off to all of her friends. All women love to show off stuff to their friends after all.

Winter Series Premieres

This month has a few nice surprises for TV viewers. A lot of new shows on cable are having premieres. I’m particularly interested in two new shows on the FX cable channel. The first one is called “House of Lies,” a new show about PR and consulting for big business. The other one is the second season of a show called “Shameless.” It looks like a peek into the world of a drug addict and street criminal and his family living in poverty in the slums of Los Angeles.

“House of Lies” is a drama with a lot of explicit sex. I thought it looked interesting from the previews, but the show I watched was disappointing. It was like a formula of “do this, then that” with nudity and references to every hot button like gay, divorce, retired, strip club, etc. for shock value rather than writing a good story.

“Shameless” is supposed to be a drama with a tinge of comedy. The characters are pathetic and I’m not sure yet if we are supposed to laugh at them or cry for them.

Magazine Subscriptions

It is getting harder to buy magazines in retail stores, so I think I will start subscribing to a few that i really like. One of the magazines that I am having a hard time finding locally is called Cowboys & Indians. Its not so much about Indians, but it sure has a lot of articles on life in the West. I like their in depth interviews with celebrities, too. They have done a great article on everyone from Ted Turner to Kevin Costner.

Movie Night

While everyone else is out there shopping till they drop, I am hunkering down at home and watching movies tonight.

I stopped at the Redbox in front of Thorntons on my way home and picked up the new “Hangover 2” movie. I laughed my ass off at the first hangover movie and have seen some good commercials about the sequel.

I can’t wait to crack open a cold drink and watch Hangover 2 tonight.

Netflix

We have Comcast cable at the house, but the cost of the new release movies is too high. When I want to watch a new movie, Its much cheaper to stop at Redbox and pick it up, keep it for 24 hours so I can watch it 2 or 3 or more times if I want to, and then drop it off at any Redbox on my way out the next day.

My step daughter was telling me that Netflix has an even better deal than that. You can sign up with Netflix for just $8 per month and watch as many movies and most popular TV shows as many times as you want. I don’t think I actually spend $8 a month at Redbox, but if I gave up cable and could pay only $8 a month for both movies and TV shows, then I would be saving a lot of money on entertainment each month.

Harry’s Law

There is a new show on NBC called Harry’s Law. It comes on Monday nights, which is good because now that football is over, there is not much of anything to watch on TV on Mondays any more.

The show is about a former corporate attorney who changes her career focus to criminal law. She opens an office in an Ohio ghetto and starts acquiring help and clients. Very interesting stories and I love the spunky characters who actually remind of people I know in real life.

Bonfire and Homecoming

This weekend is homecoming. We’re having a big bonfire and all kinds of craziness in the name of school spirit. Well, it has to do with spirits alright!

Crazy Heart Rocks

Decided to buy the Crazy Heart DVD at Target and watch it tonight. It was a really good movie about a low level musicians struggling in his later years. It was well written and very believable. Jeff Bridges did a fantastic job with the part. Good movie – if you haven’t seen it yet, you should give it a look.
