I didn’t know about all these home remedies

I learn something new everyday. Today I learned that there are home remedies for fleas, ticks and mosquitoes that will keep them off of your dogs. Go figure. Of course if I mention this to my wife, she will tell me that she already knew it and I will laugh because she probably did. However, I like that I learned it on my own. Did you know that if you put garlic in a dogs food every day, it will keep fleas away from the dog? Black walnut hulls given in pill form from the nutrition store will keep all three away from your pet as well.

I think that is so cool. We have a ceder filled bed for our little dog already, and now I know why my wife bought it. Herbal shampoos can also help with killing and keeping fleas off of your pets as well, without having to pay top dollar for expensive pet shampoos. That is really amazing. You never know what you are going to learn each day and each day never ceases to surprise me. I think it is time to go look up more herbal remedies and see what else I can find that will not only save us money, but keep chemicals out of our house.

Fish Food

We started a small 10 gallon aquarium this year. It’s only got goldfish in it, but they are lively and pretty and I like having fish in the house. So today I needed to pick up a bottle of fish food. Of course, I could not go into the pet store and not look at all the fish they have for sale. I ended up buying three little tetras to join my goldfish. They eat the same food and they should get along OK with the goldfish without territory issues. Its kind of fun to bring home new fish and add them to the tank.

Gone Fishing

Sometimes a guy needs a break. You just have to walk away from all the daily drama and all the problems and go fishing. My buddy, Claude, called me up last night and suggested a trip out on the lake in his bass boat. That was the perfect excuse for me. So today we’ve been fishing. Caught a bunch – let them go, of course – and just chilled for the day. What a good break that was for me – I needed this.

Bugs

This summer is going to be very buggy. There are already some voracious mosquitoes buzzing my yard and the 17 year cicadas are here this year. Or is it the 13 year cicadas? I don’t know which brood is here, but they are loud and crawling all over everything – trees, chimneys, and doghouses. I’ve also seen a variety of bees and wasps, several sizes of ants, and this morning a flock (if that’s the proper names for a group of these) lady bugs.

I would say it was time to turn in your license

I can’t help but to wonder if this is true or not.  I mean just looking at the picture, how in the world could this couple not know??  What do you think?

An old man and woman were on the way to Greenville , NC and stopped at McDonald’s in Farmville just off of 264 East bypass last Saturday and did not know that they hit this deer!!

Someone in McDonald’s had to tell them …the old man said he noticed that the car was starting to run a little hot the last few miles.

Absolutely amazing

Never have I read truer words before.  What do you think?  The artwork is absolutely amazing too.

God’s Wings – A little something to put things in perspective…

After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park , forest rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno’s damage. One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes, perched statuesque on the ground at the base of a tree.. Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight, he knocked over the bird with a stick. When he gently struck it, three tiny chicks scurried from under their dead mother’s wings.

The loving mother, keenly aware of impending disaster, had carried her offspring to the base of the tree and had gathered them under her wings, instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise. She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon her babies. Then the blaze had arrived and the heat had scorched her small body, the mother had remained steadfast …because she had been willing to die, so those under the cover of her wings would live.

‘He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” (Psalm 91:4)

Being loved this much should make a difference in your life. Remember the One who loves you, and then be different because of it. Time waits for no one. Treasure every moment you have. You will treasure it even more when you can share it with someone special.

To realize the value of a friend…lose one.

Bill and Sam

I thought this was just too cute not to share.  I hope you enjoy it too.

Bill and Sam, two elderly friends, met in the park every day to feed the pigeons, watch the squirrels and discuss world problems.

One day Bill didn’t show up. Sam didn’t think much about it and figured maybe he had a cold or something. But after Bill hadn’t shown up for a week or so, Sam really got worried. However, since the only time they ever got together was at the park, Sam didn’t know where Bill lived, so he was unable to find out what had happened to him.

A month had passed, and Sam figured he had seen the last of Bill, but one day, Sam approached the park and — lo and behold! –there sat Bill! Sam was very excited and happy to see him and told him so. Then he said, ‘For crying out loud Bill, what in the world happened to you?’

Bill replied, ‘I have been in jail.’

‘Jail?’ cried Sam. ‘What in the world for?’

‘Well,’ Bill said, ‘you know Mary, that cute little blond waitress at the coffee shop where I sometime go?’

‘Yeah,’ said Sam, ‘I remember her. What about her?’

‘Well, one day she filed rape charges against me; and, at 89 years old, I was so proud that when I got into court, I pled ‘guilty’ ‘The damn judge gave me 30 days for perjury.

See I told you it was cute.  I sure hope you got a laugh out of it because laughter is good for the soul!!!!

It’s been a busy week

I did not realize how hard it was going to be to find the seeds or plants that I wanted to put into my garden.  There seems to be a shortage of seeds and plants.  Why?  Well my guess would be that there are more people planting gardens now for the first time or for the first time in a long time anyway.

Something has to give with the economy soon or we’re going to see more and more homeless and hungry people.  It breaks my heart to think of all of the children that don’t have a warm bed to sleep in.  Some at least have their car to sleep in but some don’t have anything at all.  There are tent cities going up everywhere because the homeless shelters are too full as it is.  I will be donating some of what I grow to the local homeless shelter to help them feed the people there.  They need all of the help they can get.  Now all I have to do is find the seeds.

Tomorrow is Easter Sunday

Easter has always been one of my favorite holidays.  Just knowing that Jesus arose on that holiday gives us all  hope.  It’s like the trees and everything else arises every spring giving us hope for a warm spring and summer.  It’s life renewed.  It’s salvation at it’s most remarkable.  When Jesus arose from the grave, he not only appeared to his disciples, he appeared to American Indians, and others on this earth giving us all hope of salvation.  Not many people know that or believe it but it has been told by many tribes through out the generations that followed.  So here’s hoping you have a blessed Easter and realize the love that comes from this holiday.

I have a hard time understanding this

Our world is so full of hate and I have a hard time understanding this.  People killing innocent people just because they lost their job or kids killing classmates in school because someone picked on them.  How can this be?  Why has it become so easy to take a gun and take someone else’s life?  Sure if someone is threatening to harm you or your family then you have to do what you have to do but these people are killing people that have done nothing to them.  Here’s an example of what I’m talking about that just occurred in Alabama.

Ten people have been killed and several injured across two small towns of Samson and Geneva in Alabama after a shooting incident by a gunman. The victims include the gunman and the wife and child of a sheriff’s deputy.

The gunman started his killing spree in a gas station in Samson after 5 p.m. Eastern Time and his rampage ended 12 miles away at the Reliable Metal Products plant, a manufacturing plant in Geneva. According to a report by CNN from Alabama state Senator Harri Anne Smith, who represents Geneva County “he [the gunman] was shooting at just ordinary people going about their business”.

The gunman was identified as Michael McLendon, who once worked at the Reliable Metal Products plant. He took his life at the plant after an encounter with the police. The victims include six adults and a child. The investigators are not sure what caused this catastrophic event to take place. Samson and Geneva are two small rural towns with a population of less than 5000 in Alabama near the Florida border.

Life is precious.  No one knows why this person when on the shooting spree that took the life of a small child in the rampage this man when on.  Then he took the cowards way out and killed himself.  If his life was so terrible, why didn’t he just take his own life and let the innocent people live their lives?  No one can give an answer to that question unfortunately.  Maybe we need to teach our children just how precious life really is because somewhere along the line, that seems to be a lesson not enough people learned.
