Happy Birthday Sis

My sister is celebrating her birthday today. I wish she could spend the day doing everything fun and nice for herself to pamper her body and relax the mind. Wouldn’t that be anice way to start the next year of your life?

But she doesn’t have that luxury, what with the economic times we are all in plus the fact that her hubby was hurt in a car wreck and can’t work until he recovers. So it was off to work she goes, and her dinner plans include Chinese take out that she picks up on her way home from work. So at least she doesn’t have to cook.

Sis – I love you and hope you manage to have a happy day on your birthday!

A Starting Harmonica?

I really didn’t know that there was even a “starting harmonica” on the market! But then I certainly know everything when it comes to today’s musical instruments. It’s just weird that coming from a very musical family that is still multiplying that I wouldn’t have at least heard about it or read about it online somewhere!

Be that as it may, I managed to find a great last minute deal with a starting harmonica so that I would have it in time to take over to my sister’s house for the “Family 4th of July Holiday Dinner”. This is the first year that my sister has hosted such a large friend and family gathering (we are expecting about 26 people) so I have been trying to help her with some of her personal 4th of July gift shopping errands. It’s been a blessing that we live so close together and are on good terms at the moment.

Lunch at Red Lobster!

Hubby has been promised that we would go out to lunch at Red Lobster for a weeks now and something seems to come up every day that it doesn’t work out.

My sister sent us gift certificates for Red Lobster as a Christmas gift, I can’t believe that I have been holding on to them for this long, waiting for a chance to use them.  We wanted to do lunch so that it would be just the two of us.  We take the kids everywhere all the time, so if we can steal away for a lunch, just us two, we take it and run with it.

Today was the day, it just worked out, it wasn’t planned.  The computer was acting funny so neither of us could go online, the weather was cooperating nicely, so we went and got back in time for the youngest to get home from school by the bus.

We both ordered nice entrees and enjoyed an appetizer of stuffed mushrooms, yummy.  We both really enjoy their muffins, so they came home with us, along with a few other left overs, but not that much was left on our plates to bring home.  We did order a take out order of the fondue bread with lobster sauce so that the whole family can enjoy it later.

I love Red Lobster, thanks Sis!

A New Recipe From The Red Hat Society Cookbook

Tomorrow I am driving down to my sister’s house, where there is going to be several of my family members and friends gathering to visit with her son, who is home from college for a short time. Everyone has been asked to bring a side dish or two. I am baking some brownies and trying a recipe that my sister sent to me some time back that is taken from the Red Hat Society Cookbook, pg 276, so I’m told.

I made this delicious fruity desert called “Pink Stuff” and put into two different containers to refrigerate, one container to take tomorrow and one for Hubby and the kids to try tonight to see if it came out all right, being it is the first time that I have made this recipe. Well it sat in the refrigerator for only 45 minutes when it was discovered by one of the kids, word got out  and now it is all gone, just like that. Well at least I know that it tastes good and should be a hit tomorrow. I’d like to share the recipe with you.

“Pink Stuff”

  • 1 can (14 oz) Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 1 container (12 oz) Whipped Topping, thawed
  • 1 can (20 oz) Cherry Pie Filling
  • 1 can (15 oz) Crushed Pineapple, well drained
  • 1 can (15 oz) Mandarin Oranges, drained
  •  Red food coloring – a few drops, optional

Stir together the condensed milk and whipped topping in a large bowl, and then fold in the cherry pie filling. Then you fold in the pineapple and oranges. If you want a deeper pink color, add a few drops of red food coloring. Refrigerate at least 4 hours prior to serving.

Gas Prices Hinder Visits With My Sister

Just hung up from talking with my sister that lives a little over an hour away, she sounds so miserable that I have decided that I am going to drive down for a visit on Sunday.  I don’t work that day and Hubby will have the youngest with him at the flea market, so I see no reason to jump in my car and spend some time with her and her family. The cost of gas is the only concern, it will take over $20 to drive there and back and gas is getting really close to the $4 a gallon mark. It hasn’t been this high in a good long while, this is really scary folks, I’m tired of this roller coaster ride that we have been riding year after year after year – a carnival ride from hell is what it is, with no opportunity in sight to get off of that ride.

Good thing that I have a gas charge card that I can use if needed, it seems as if it is needed now more often then before, which sucks.  I am trying not to use my charge cards at all. This was the first year that I didn’t use a single charge card for anything the whole Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season. I just now paid one credit card off last week and hopefully next month I will pay another off as well, that will help when paying bills time comes around again the first of the month.

All Is Well With Big Sis In Tennessee!

Just heard from my sister in Tennessee, all is well with everyone down there after the tornadoes and all.  She had a few scary stories to tell, but they are all O.K.  Hubby is in the other room watching a movie The Day after Tomorrow which is about global warming and severe weather problems – what timing for that movie to be on, ha ha!

Here in Richmond it has been warmer than usual and rainy but it is supposed to stop in time for the weekend. Oh well nothing good lasts forever.
