Another Day Of No School

School has been closed a lot lately what between all the snow days and now today is President’s day, the kids have been stuck at home a whole lot lately and I am praying that tomorrow they will go back to school and life can become normal again.  Hubby is back on his feet and I’m feeling much better (after being able to catch up on some sleep) and I’m somewhat ready for the week a head.

I usually do love it when school is closed – when it is closed here and there, but day after day after day and especially being since the Christmas holidays just ended a month or so a go.  My kids are great and I treasure any time that I have with them, just wish money wasn’t so tight and the weather so crazy, and schedules so screwy, so that we could take them more places.  My teenager can be a challenge to get to participate in anything family oriented and I usually regret even trying to include her, but we do manage once and a while to keep everyone somewhat satisfied.  There is so much out there to explore and I want my kids to see all that they can see with us to explore it with them.

One day maybe I’ll go sign up for some college courses that I am interested in, I think I would enjoy learning now that I will have to pay for the education out of my own pocket.  Too bad that youth is wasted on the young!

Keeping Up With Kids

Even though a lot of people don’t like rap music, the reality is that this is the music that kids everywhere are listening to. If you want to know what’s going on inside the heads of your kids, you need to be in tune with what they are seeing and hearing.

There are a lot of different kinds of rap music, including hip hop and gangsta rap. As a parent, I feel it is important to at least give rap music a listen and to keep myself informed of the top rap artists. You can keep up the latest in rap by going to this website: www.rapartists.com

This site has info on all the popular rappers, with information on their albums, their biography, pictures and a link to the artist’s homepage.

The site also has a rap forum, where people ask questions and make comments. If you have a question, you can post it there and you might be surprised at the support and help you can get from the other forum participants.

I try and listen to a variety of music, exposing my kids to a variety of music along the way. I don’t like a lot of the rap that is so popular but I don’t give my kids a hard time about listening to it. I remember my parents giving me a hard time about the music that I listened to and that made me want to listening to it more as well as turning up the volume!

War Paint

My teen spends a good amount of her time on the computer as much as the rest of us do.  I make an effort to keep an eye on what she is up to while on the Internet and it has given us plenty of opportunities to spend time with each other while surfing the net.

She has been into fashion and make-up since she turned 3 and we have spent a lot of time together playing with different girlie things, putting on make-up and doing hair.  Her girlfriends used to come over and invade my suitcases full of old colorful clothing that they could play dress-up with and have a blast.  I’d always had as much glitter on the floor as dust bunnies, that is before she has toned such things down with age.

Makeup is a big part of being a little girl, they watch Mom putting it on, day after day, and boys even like putting it on, they just called it by another name “War Paint”!

The Dentist

Took my youngest to the dentist today, got a cleaning, a fluoride treatment and an exam that sent us home with a smile and another cavity free dentist visit!  Gotta love that.

I Was So Lonely

My youngest daughter has been watching me blog and has been asking me questions about it, so I thought that I would allow her to post on my blog when she feels the urge to, so the following post is from her:

“Last week during lunch at school I had to eat lunch by myself. Well, I wasn’t completely alone at the lunch table. There were two girls there, but I didn’t know them that well. And they never really talked to me.  But none of my friends sat with me for the whole week! One of my friends sat at a special table for the week. My other friend sat with her boyfriend on Monday and Friday, like she always does, and the rest of the week she went to sit with her “mother” and “sister”. They weren’t really her mother and sister, they were actually just some of her other friends. So I was all alone for the whole week at lunch. Sort of. I felt kind of……abandoned?

I hope this week everything is back to normal. Because if it isn’t, I’m going to make my friends fell very guilty. Wouldn’t you?”

My Science Project

Hello, I’m Darlene’s daughter and my science partner and I have a science project due on February 24 about Saturn. My partner has the pictures of the Milky Way and Saturn’s clouds. While I get the information together about Saturn. I really wish that our project was all done and over with. It’s getting pretty hard with all this information. But I’m glad that we have about four or six days to finish it. We’ve been able to do a lot of the work at our houses even we can’t go to each others houses while doing it there. That would make it a lot easier for us. Just in case we didn’t think what we did is good or not. That is probably the hardest part about the project. (I wonder if I should have done it by myself or with a partner? Hmmm.)

People At My School Say I’m A Goody Goody.

Some of the students at my school at school say I’m a goody goody, I think the teachers appreciate it though. A goody goody is someone that always follow the rules and never does any thing that disobeys the rules. That is me, but I don’t mind being called a goody goody. Even though I am, I’m proud of it. To me I think kids, and adults, should not disobey the rules. I like for everyone to be good, but we all know that’s never going to happen no mater how much we want it to be.  (I wonder if that’s why not many people like me? Maybe not or maybe so. I don’t know.) Well, I got to go now, goodbye!

Daughter wants to Blog

The next blogs will be written by my daughter.

She is 12 years old and I think she will enjoy the experience and I wish her luck.  I’ll be checking in on her now and then!
