Allergy season is upon us

The past few couple of weeks I have been hearing a lot of sneezing going on, here at home, at the mall, at the grocery store and of course at the hospital, where we spent so much time at last week.  Every single person was complaining that their allergies were kicking in, tis the season.

My youngest has had allergies for several years and gets an allergy shot once a month and takes a small little pill once a day and it seems to be working rather well.  I took her off of the pill for a few months during the winter, but I think we need to start her back up again so that she doesn’t start up like everyone else around is.

Yesterday was a beautiful day, it made it to the 70’s and today is supposed be the just as nice.  I hope we are done with the snow and freezing temperatures once and for all.  I am itching to get outside and start working on the yard and the gardens, and boy do they need work – it was a hard winter on our yard this year – lots of strong winds made it worse.

Cheer Goodies

Dance Clothes and Cheer clothes seem to go hand in hand. Our youngest daughter has been a cheerleader for several years now and we are always looking for the newest fashions that come up for cheer leading.

This is a sport that is getting very popular, just 5 years ago you couldn’t find much of anything, but since every year it gets more popular so there are more and more merchants producing products to sell for the participates that love new fashions and all of the goodies too.

She has her room all decorated in cheer leading style which really looks cool her friends really like it (she does also) and we are always looking for new stuff to help decorate it with so I found a new web-site the other day and it has some neat stuff for us to check out together, cool.

Fixing a Lunch Buffet

Had no idea I was going to have a house full of kids today but I’m glad I took the rest of the week off to be with the kids. We were hoping to get away for a couple of days, but hubby is busy with work and the kids seem more interested in staying home so they can play with their friends, so that’s fine, too.

With all these girls at our house I decided to fix a Mexican buffet for their lunch. I  cooked a big batch of ground beef and set out all the different fixings for a taco bar. I put out chopped tomato, chopped onion, shredded lettuce, salsa, shredded cheese, sour cream and both hard taco shells and soft tortillas. Since I love avocados, I made some fresh guacamole and put it out with Doritos chips.

Now I can let them fix their own food and disappear upstairs for some peace and quiet.

House Full of Little Girls

Our youngest asked if a few of her girl friends could come over today and play and then spend the night tonight, of course I said yes, even though it is a Sunday and tomorrow is Monday, it is no problem, school is our and I have off tomorrow and won’t have to worry about the kids being at the house by themselves.

I must say though, that she has a great group of friends, very low maintenance kids, noisy at times, and always hungry, other then that they are no problem to have over and it is good to hear the laughter of little girls all over the house, it makes me giggle hearing them all.

Ah too bad that youth is wasted on the young, isn’t it?

Basement Discovery

I was in the basement earlier today, attempting to dig out some of the Christmas boxes, when I noticed an unfamiliar box on the shelf. I could not believe my eyes when I opened the box and found a Christmas present that we had bought our youngest for last Christmas, it appears that we neglected to wrap it and put it under the tree last year.

Well it’s one more gift that I don’t have to worry about affording and purchasing in the next week or two, and it will most definitely find it’s way under the tree in time for this year’s gift giving frenzy!

Black Friday Savings

My oldest daughter and I always go to this one certain website about two weeks before Thanksgiving called black-friday.net. This site lets people purchase Black Friday items online without the hassle of having to stand in line at the store at 5am at multiple stores. Last year  I saved probably around $3,000 for Christmas presents, and saved time, because we got our purchases off the computer instead of standing in line forever, waiting to go to the next store.

I Hate Homework

It seems our son needs help tonight with his Spanish homework, ugh . . .  I took Spanish for a few years and can muddle my way through the basics, but my goodness I feel pretty useless when is comes to homework about it.

Another subject that gives me the willies is MATH, is it a four letter word as far as I’m concerned, anything past 3rd grade math and I get feverish and feel faint.  Isn’t that a sad state of affairs……….

While helping him maybe I can come up with and idea for dinner!

Old Videos

Thinking about my daughter and her previous beauty pageants made me think of the videos that we have somewhere in the house of her in those pageants. I am going to have dig around and see if I can find them. We have a whole box of home movies that are on VHS, I would love to have converted into DVDs. I’m going to have to look into that and see how much work that would entail, let’s face it, there is work involved in anything these days!

Not Just Pimples

With two teenagers in the house, we have had our share of drama when the dreaded pimples appear. It always seems to be at the critical times, like right before a school dance or an important first date with that oh so cool guy.

I admit, Acne is not a life or death situation, but to a teenager, a breakout of acne can ruin their social life and after all, that’s what the teen years are all about.

New Sewing Experience

I had expressed an interest in sewing to my husband and had told him I wanted to get a sewing machine so I could learn some techniques in creating some beautiful home piece’s such as pillows, blankets, throws, curtains or even clothes I became a pro at it. So my wonderful hubby had brought home a sewing machine from Walmart and man I was so excited to get the actual opportunity to sew. I got straight into the car and went fabric shopping so I could come home and experiment with them, and I had found that it wasn’t as easy as I had thought it would be and being the perfectionist I seem to be I wanted all my work to be precise.

I went to an Arts & Crafts store nearby to purchase a book called “Sewing for Dummies.” Of course the first piece I tried to work on was the easiest, a simple bed pillow and it came out surprisingly nice. I kept on with sewing the simplest things until I felt I was ready for something a little more challenging. I had found a page where it teaches you how to make something called a quillow, it seemed to be trickier then anything I did before, but I gave it a shot. It took me quit a few times to put one together decently. I do believe I have found my new hobby that I enjoy so very much, and I’m hoping that if I become good enough with it, then I could start selling them for extra cash or even give them away for birthdays and Christmas’s to other family members. I am so excited to learn so many more new things and get to gain knowledge on this sewing machine.
