Sheetz Gas

I’m glad that the Sheetz gas stations around here have started a new customer loyality card for their loyal customers such as myself. Even though they generally have the cheapest gas around it will be nice to get 3 cents off each gallon that I pump from now on as long as I use my new Sheetz card that I just signed up for. It will also give me various discounts on some of their food and drink items and I’m all for that!

Corn Fields & Their Mazes

A few years ago I heard about a local farmer who took his tractor out in the corn field and cut a series of paths in the stalks. He had a particular design planned out, and when he was finished he sent his kids out to find their way through the maze. When they got out the other side there was a prize waiting for the first one out. They loved it and told their friends and next thing you know they had a bunch of people wanting to go through the maze, too .Now all of a sudden a bunch of farmers had picked up on that idea and are cutting mazes into their corn fields and then charging admission for people to come try to find their way out. It’s actually a fun way for a family to spend together doing something outside in the fresh air and supporting the local farmers who could use a few extra bucks considering all that they have to go through trying to make a living off a farm.

If you have one in your area go ahead and give it a try. I bet you have a nice time and you could probably use the exercise, too!

For the Birds

On a whim I bought a little bird feeder and a bag of bird seed. I think I’ll put it in the front yard, by the living room window so I can watch if any birds come to it. I love birds and hope they come eat, safely and appreciated from my yard.

Three Heroes

3 heroes

What a great phot of three superstars These three are at the top of my list heroes. Richard Petty, NASCAR champion standing beside Reba McIntyre and Charlie Daniels. Wow!

Mushrooms

There is a lot of shade in my yard, which is one reason I have a hard time getting any flowers, vegetables or even shrubs to grow. And now it turns out that there are a lot of different mushrooms that want to grow in my yard. I have seen 4 totally different types in different spots in my yard. I have to figure out how to get rid of them. I guess first I have to ID the different ones and then go to the hardware store to see what they have to kill them off.

California Drinking

My long time friend who has ended up in Southern California hasn’t called or email as much lately as he used to actually called today, he picked a crazy day to call, but I’m glad that he did.  He is such a wonderful person and life gave him the challenge of being gay, we’ve spent many an hour chatting about his lifestyle and he has had his ups and downs with it that is for sure.

He spent some time back in his old home town in Wisconsin, but small towns up north are not what you would call “gay friendly” so he didn’t stay there long.  He bounces around the states and I never know where he will be calling from next.  This time he was thinking of staying in California but of course life is challenging him once again.

He has always enjoyed the night life, since bars are the easiest place to meet other gays, but since he is fast approaching the age of 60 he has toned down his wild night life, for the most part.

After much prodding from his close friend – the poor guy went out the other night and it happens that someone must have slipped something into his drink(s), so he doesn’t remember all that much.  He does remember however, the L.A. police officer hand cuffing him, pieces of a ride in the smelly backseat of a police cruiser and most of all waking up the next a.m. in a cold, cramped and very scary jail cell.  His night out of the town ended up in getting himself a DUI.  And that, now a days, is serious and can cost $$$$$ and will make it difficult for him to keep his job as a city bus driver, bummer.

Of course by now he tells me that he has an attorney.  he even writes a blog on their website Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney Blog | California Criminal Law Forum. They are one of the top 5% U.S. Law Firm that specializes in aggressive representation in the Southern California courts with criminal and DUI cases.

Memorial Day Salute

memorial day

Today I watched a special show on the cable’s Military Channel while cooking dinner. It described the World War II battles in the Pacific Theater. That is where my grandfather was stationed while in the Navy. He did not fight at Iwa Jima, but he was on a nearby island. Every time I see the Iwa Jima stature, I think of my grandfather and what it must have been like to be fighting that war in the Pacific.

Arizona Tea

The grocery store has stopped carrying the Sobe flavored waters that I like and have switched to a new line of flavored waters. Or maybe they have just expanded a line that they have carried all along. The Arizona brand teas and flavored waters seem to have two extra shelves now where the Sobe teas and waters used to be.

I have tried the Arizona teas and do not like them as well as the Sobe flavors. So I’ll be looking for a new grocery store to shop at regularly. If I’m going thave to go elsewhere for my favorite daily beverage, I might as well do all the week’s shopping there.

Students

Here we are in the last month of public school The kids are ready to get out of their classrooms and out on the beaches and parks for their summer break.

My kids have always loved school, but they love their vacation time more. I am trying to think of some good things to do over the summer break that will interest them and keep them busy.

In the meantime, the teachers are still trying to teach these kids a few things. I know that my kids are still bring home an hour or more of homework each night and still have some books to finish reading.

Have a Blessed Easter

Easter

Will I see you tomorrow morning for the Easter Sunrise service? If you only go to church once a year, I think the Easter Sunrise service is the one time you should go. It is so inspiring and so worth the early alarm setting.
