Safe and Secure Mailboxes For Everyone

The apartment complex that is located behind our street is such a mess. The landlord is what we call a typical “slum lord” and doesn’t give a hoot about his tenants, their safety or the neighborhood in general. I feel sorry for the majority of low income people that have to live there. The place is littered with trash, old cars, drug dealers and loud music played all hours of the day and night time. Their Mailboxes are in such sad shape and most of the stair banisters and light bulbs are missing. Such a waste of valuable space.

A good quality source of Commercial Mailboxes is needed for that place. As you walk by you can see all the junk mail, newspapers and the such strewn about the stairs and entrance ways. I’m sure that identity theft must be an issue with a lot of those folks who’s mail boxes are not functioning and locking properly. I hate to see people taken advantage like that, there isn’t any excuse for conditions to be this bad for so many people.  My mailbox needs to be safe and secure. I’ve got one of the nicer of the Residential Mailboxes that I’ve seen in the neighborhood. It has my street numbers on it, but not my last name, which I was told was a smart move. It should last in the outside elements for years to come.

Libra’s horoscope for today

LIBRA
October 21, 2012

Today is going to be centered all around your relationships — at work, at home, even on the highway. The way you interact with friends and strangers alike is important, so make sure you are paying attention to how you come off to other people. Being a good listener is vital, and biting your tongue is essential. Avoid making assumptions about people and do some deep breathing to avoid getting any road rage. And no matter who you’re talking to, you must be totally honest.

Libra

Still waiting for the claims adjuster to show so I thought I would check out my horoscope, looks like it is giving me some good information to live by today when the insurance guy shows up!

The True Libra

Since I was born on October the 15th I am a Libra, what the call a True Libra. I fit the description of a Libra perfectly, which I can’t say happens for all the other Libras that I know and have in my life. There are hundreds of images online for the astrological sign of Libra. This particular image is definitely my favorite so far, must be the good looking dude holding the scales, ya think?

Free Moving Quotes

When my parents moved to the next county over, I was sixteen, they used a Penske moving truck from the moving truck company down the street by my dad’s office. There was no other choice, you used that company, always.  Now a days we get on the Internet at type in “moving company” and the whole world opens up it’s doors for you.

Seems Ms. Jinx is using a company MovingOrbit.com, it is so cool, it lets you compare multiple estimates for local and/or interstate moving companies.  Done completely on-line, not even a phone call is necessary.

Of course the companies listed are all licensed and insured, none of the fly-by-nights companies that you hear all the horror stories about.  Ms. Jinx needs to find one with great customer service and movers that will treat her lifelong’s belongings with kid gloves.

Fighting the Clock

I remember a commercial for something like hair color where the model says something to the effect of, “I don’t intend to age gracefully. I intend to fight it every step of the way!”

I feel that way, too, and one thing I’ve noticed lately is that my skin needs a little extra attention. I’ve never been one for laying out in the sun and getting a deep tan, so I think I have an advantage over some of the other women my age. But I want to fight the wrinkles and age spots if I can find the products to help me.

From reading online about anti-aging treatments, it seems that there are two key ingredients to keeping youthful skin. One is collagen and the other is elastin. I’m going to start looking into this and start trying harder to keep my skin as healthy as I can for as long as I can. It’s the only skin I will ever have.

A Book Village

book village

At first glance this may look like a few books on a bookshelf. But when you look closer you will see that someone has added doors, windows and signs on the books, making it look more like the main street in a tiny village. Wouldn’t that be cool to find a town that actually made all the buildings look like books? I think that would be a fabulous tourist attraction and it would be great to be promoting reading and books.

Instant Access to Information

This morning I realized that we have all accepted and integrated the internet into our daily lives. We use it for all kinds of things and all the information is available to us instantly, at the touch of a few keyboard keys or mouse clicks.

Lately I have been using Wikipedia to research a lot of different subjects. I like the way it has cross references and a bibliography at the end of each article. Although a lot of people have been bashing the site and saying it is full of inaccuracies, that has not been my experience. I love the site and the enormous number of subjects that it covers in depth.

Long Weekend – Sad Weekend

As much as I love three day weekends, this Labor Day weekend always makes me sad. Around here, Labor Day weekend means the last weekend of summer. All the swimming pools will be closed for the season after Monday, and all the schools will be back in session for the new school year by Tuesday, too.

I had a nice summer but it was so extra hot that I did not get outside to do as much as I would have liked. I would rather be hot in the summertime than cold in the winder time, but too hot is not fun.

I Love My New Nook!

My mom bought my one of the best birthday presents, ever! She got me a Nook reader! It is really awesome!

She gave me a $20 gift card with the Nook, so I went online at Barnes and Noble and immediately found 3 books that I have been wanting to read. It only took a few second to download the books on my my Nook and I was reading the first one last night!

The one weird thing about the Nook is that there is not way to turn it off. That’s right! It is always on. There is a sleep feature if you set it down and walk away for longer than 15-20 minutes. But when you come back it fires right up and is still on the same page where you left off.

The battery life is supposed to be about 2 weeks with normal use. Isn’t that amazing?

Cute Recipe

I found a really cute recipe on a sister site that I am going to try, thought I would share it.  Now that I have reached the age of 50, the Red Hat Society is very interested in me, so is the AARP!

“Pink Stuff”

From the Red Hat Society cookbook pg 276

1 can sweetened condensed milk

1 (12oz) container whipped topping, thawed

1 (20 oz) can cherry pie filling

1 (15 oz) can crushed pineapple, well drained

1 (15 oz) can mandarin oranges, drained

Red food coloring – a few drops, optional

Stir together the condensed milk and whipped topping.  Fold in the cherry pie filling.  Fold in the pineapple and oranges.  If you want a deeper pink color, add a few drops of red food coloring.  Refrigerate at least 4 hours prior to serving.
