Good-bye to the Olympics and Hello to another School year!

The Olympics have come to an end, regular programing has resumed on NBC and I’m sure that we will be hearing a lot of interesting and exciting stories from many of the participants for the next couple of weeks. I’m sad that it has all come to an end, I enjoyed watching all of the events and hearing all about the wacky things that went down during all of the activities in China this time around.

On a much brighter note, school will be starting next Tuesday for our kids and we have survived another summer, and the kids are getting a bit nervous about the new school year. I have to admit I am a bit nervous also, since our youngest will be entering Middle School and I know it is a bit scarey and it certainly will be a challenge for him.

Singing the Blues

I took my car in for it’s much needed oil change and just as always, they found other issues that need tending to, and I walked away paying over close to $400 and the need to schedule an appointment next week, to bring it back in when the rest of the parts have come in.

Today my daughter borrowed my car to run an errand and returned home with news of a heavy duty oil leak coming out of the bottom of the engine.

Long story short, my car was towed to the garage, $50 just like that, badda boom, badda bing, and the mechanic won’t even be able to look at the darn thing until Monday. I was informed that it doesn’t look good and that my car would be out of commission for several days and I’m sure to the tune of some major bucks!

I’m singing the car repair blues today, and it sounds like a very long and tearful song.

Day of swimming

This has got to be the hottest summer ever that I remember since moving here. What ever happened to the nice summer days that could be spent outdoors and enjoy the sun without having to worry about passing out from the heat and humidity.

With only one month left before school starts, the kids have been pestering me to take them to the city pool, so we decided that today, the whole family was going to pack up and spend the day having fun in the sun and pool water. It was too bad that I woke up from a horrible night of not being able to sleep and I was in no mood to go in public and deal with all that it takes to spend a day at the pool.

So hubby stayed home with me, while the oldest picked up all there friends and went for the first time to the pool with out one of us going along with. It worked out find, the had a blast and I rested up a bit and am feeling much better!

Today at the park

My husband and I had time alone since both of the kids were at friends houses for the night, so we took a walk in the park and seen actions that unfortunately happens a lot. A black man was laying down on one the benches that was near the walk way and a white man walked by him while were as well, just the opposite way of him though, and had heard the white man call the black man an N-Word, and told him to get a job.
He just kept going off with these awful words to use to anyone, especially someone you don’t even know. I think it is so outrageous how people treat one another these days still, why cant people just accept the fact that we are all living beings, and need to start treating each other with equal respect. Why be ignorant for any reason?

You think gas is expensive here in the U.S., you should see how much……

I know that every time we Americans whine about the cost of gas, someone will pipe up with the cost of gas in Europe is so much higher – that was the first thing that came out my my Hubby’s mouth a year or so ago when the price was once again starting to climb up drastically, it’s so expensive they sell it by the liter instead of the gallon, yadda yadda yadda.

Well, it’s too expensive here in the US and it is also too expensive in Europe. They had a huge truckers strike last month to make that point. I’m concerned that we are getting close to seeing the same thing here, as the cost of diesel is even higher than the $4 a gallon gasoline. If the truckers start causing shortages, the cost of everything will sky rocket.

I’m getting really nervous about how the cost of gas is going to affect us all and our quality of life in America. Might be a good time to make moves toward more self sufficiency and stocking up on essentials – just in case. Thoughts to ponder over.

Mexico is this year’s reunion for sister to attend

My sister has all the luck, it seems at times anyway. Her hubby’s family meets every single year for a reunion of sorts, and they move around to a different location every year. The family usually gets a fantastic deal through a friend or a family member, for their accommodations, this is a huge family that has plenty of connections all over the world so they get to go to some really awesome places for their get togethers.

This year they are holding the event in Mexico, at the Rocky Point beach area, she tells me that this year they are looking into some Rocky Point rental homes for their use this time around and she sent me a couple of links to some web-sites about the area, so that I can share in her excitement of this years fun in the sun!  I can’t help but be a bit envious of them all.

I hope that it all works out well and that none of her kids, her husband or her get sick at the last minute and end up missing this years fun. One year they couldn’t go at the last minute because a couple of her kids and her hubby caught a bug the day before leaving and so the whole family had to miss that years fun in New Orleans. And as I have always told her, if one or two of her kids get sick she can bring them here to recuperate, I can look after them so that the rest of them would be able to go and enjoy themselves without worrying about the sick kids and all. That is what sisters do isn’t it?

Gas was holding at $3.99

Sunday being Father’s Day, we took the kids and we headed down to Hubby’s parent’s homestead for a nice visit with the family. All went well, everyone behaved, kids and adults both. The weather was nice enough so that being outside for a good amount of the day was tolerable, sitting in the house all day is too much to ask so many people in such a small house and all.

The drive down there is almost a two hour drive and we passed numerous gas stations and we noticed on the drive down how every single gas station had priced their gasoline at $3.99, it appeared as if no one wanted to be the first to hit the big 4 dollar mark. I thought it odd that every single station would have the exact price, that has never, ever happened before, there is usually a wide variety of prices being displayed by all of the different companies.

On the way home we made sure to look at every station and indeed it was the case. I wonder what their prices are today, now that people are home after the Father’s Day holiday is over. Usually the companies raise the price right before a holiday – this holiday was just totally out of character for such a business.

Long nights

It has been one crazy day today, I had gotten into a car accident earlier in the morning, which didn’t turn out the greatest on my part. Plus I had to order tickets that were almost sold out for Rob Zombie, that I wanted to give my husband for his birthday. That didn’t happen so now I cant give them to him right on his birthday, it’ll be late. But oh well, life goes on, hopefully tomorrow will be relaxing, lord knows I need it.

Sick

I had just gotten of the phone with my mother, and she has informed me that she is sick at home and needs help around the house. I have no problem helping my mother out around her house but its difficult to keep up with my family and my own house when I’m not there to do so. But I’m putting my house hold needs on the back burner for today so I can help. I do love my parents, and I will drop anything for them and hopefully they know it.

Hungry

I have been starving all morning just because I haven’t had anytime to sit down and at least try to enjoy a meal. Every time I get a chance to myself one of my kids needs me, or my husband needs to talk to me, or whatever. I mowed half the lawn here, made breakfast and lunch so far, washed dishes, did laundry, paid my bills, took my daughter to cheer leading this morning and also took my son with me to go grocery shopping. I have had a very long day, so I’m going to go to a fast food restaurant in a minute and grab something for myself so this headache will go away.
