Playing in the rain

This weather has made it a challenge for the kids to be playing outside, enjoying their summer vacation from school. We have been experiencing severe thunder and lightening storms, but the temperature is still on the high side of being in the 90’s and all of the kids and their friends what to go outside and jump on the trampoline and play outside.

I remember as a kid, my mother never allowed us to play in the rain, never, I guess she was afraid of one of us getting sick and then the rest of us would get sick and then my mother would have to deal with all of these sick kids.

I on the other hand encourage my kids to go outside and play in the rain, as long as it isn’t the least bit chilly and that there isn’t any lightening going on. I believe there is no reason in the world for them not to unless they would become wet and cold from it. But a good play in the nice warm rain when it is hot outside is good for everybody, that is my story and I’m sticking with it.

So when all of the kids are whining about it raining out and them not being able to play outside, I tell them go ahead and go and have a blast doing it, just be careful.

Kids

It never ceases to amaze me how my children can irritate me one minute and then bring tears of joy to my eyes the next. My youngest, bless her soul, is starting in on her teen years as a preteen with attitude. Not a mean or nasty attitude, more of an attitude along the lines of,  ” I can’t be bothered!”. Which can drive a mother nuts when you’re trying to get then to do something like simple chores.

But just when you reach the end of your rope they do something sweet and unexpected like helping out without being asked, or just asking what can they do to help ease the burden. Our youngest cleaned up the living room and the bathroom without being asked to do so. When I approached her on it she said, “Mom, it needed to be done and you looked tired, so I did it so you wouldn’t have to worry about it later.”

I love my kids, they’re good kids.

Weeding the garden

Since we have been getting a bit of rain everyday for the past week, hubby and I haven’t spent any time in the garden, but the rain has held off for two days now and we ventured outside today to have a look at it and we were both shocked with what we found. Our garden no longer resembled a garden, it had taken on the look of a small jungle, in just over a weeks time of daily rain and no chance for weeding, our garden kept us both busy for several hours this afternoon of back breaking picking and weeding.

We both came inside soaking wet with sweat and filthy dirty, with a major thirst for 2 large cold glasses of sweet iced tea, of which we both guzzled down instantly and was ready for more.

It was worth all of the effort because now we can see that the garden is producing, we saw several small tomatoes on the vines and some things that we aren’t sure of what they are.  Looks like the garden will do us well this year, I sure hope so!

The “Pool”

My dearest hubby and his friends are always into the company sports pool they hold for everything from baseball, to football to basketball and anything in between. They even do one about a “Fantasy Team” where they pick their players, I’m still not quite sure how they do that one.

Hubby’s favorite is his baseball picks, every season, all season long! His favorite Internet site is where he gets, what he likes to call, his daily “fix”. Men! Sometimes they’re just big kids. The only difference between them and the toddlers is the cost of their toys!

I love chocolate and Fannie May is awesome

As a kid I loved candies and chocolates, and as I aged I pretty much lost the taste for such sweat treats, but I am glad to say that in the past two years or so I have rekindled my love for them again. And what is so cool is that there are so many types of candies these days to choose from and I don’t mean the kids kind of candies, I’m talking the kind that is more expensive and caters to my generation and I’m loving every minute of it.

It occurred to me that since I am doing so much on the Internet these days, that I could shop around for my candies on-line, and I don’t know why I didn’t think of it sooner. One of my favorite candy companies is Fannie May, they have been around forever, almost everyone has heard of them and tasted at least one of their treats and you know that when you purchase one of their products that you are going to get a good quality piece of candy and they have a great selection to choose from. So I ventured onto the Fannie May web-site and was so happy to see that you can order directly from them and what really got me excited was to find that you can create your own assortment any way that you want it and have them ship it to you or where ever else you would want them to go.

Real Estate Still Suffering

My oldest sister has been in the real estate business for several years now and really enjoys it and can’t wait, like the rest of us, for the economy to start easing up so that homes will start selling again so that she can start making good money once again, like she did when she first started in this highly competitive industry.

Lyrics for Rap and Hip Hop

Music is life and life is music, I can’t imagine my life without music, in fact since my mom was a dancer and my father was in a band, I wouldn’t even be here without music. Hubby and I both enjoy all kinds of music and I have instilled the love of all music in our kids the best that we could.

Our teenager has always enjoyed music, like most kids do, and now she listens to this new musical concept called “Rap.” I really am not a fan of this type of music although now and then I will hear something that I enjoy bouncing around to, but not too often.

I was on the Internet the other day and was looking up the words to a song that my father would have me sing as a kid called “Little Sir Echo” and I was surprised how easy it was to find them with all of the sites out there now that help you in your search of song titles and lyrics.

What a mess!

Yesterday, my husband had noticed that our kitchen sinks were backed up, and about 8 gallons of dirty water came up and went all over the kitchen floor. It wasn’t until about two hours later after cleaning it up that I noticed the basement was flooded with the same dirty water, that had a horrible smell to it. My entire house smelt like garbage until I sanitized absolutely everything! It took eight hours to clean and sanitize everything, what a mess that was, I pray it never happens again.

We are having the worst luck with our plumbing issues lately, it is a good thing that Hubby is a plumber and can do many things on his own, rather than pay some one else to do it.

Chili, a 2 Day Event

The weather dropped about 20 degrees since this time last week. It’s old man winter in the air and soon the snow that we have been waiting for will be here, possibly later this week.Tonight I asked hubby if he would mind fixing a big pot of chili for dinner. He makes the best chili – I don’t know what all he puts in that pot, but it sure comes out tasting good.

We like the chili on the second day, too. Sometimes the flavors need that extra time to come out and mature. So Chili is a two day event for us.

Back to School

The two week winter break will be over come Monday morning and the kids will be going back to school and life will settle down since the holiday season will be officially over and done with. I enjoy the kids being at home, don’t get me wrong, but when the weather is cold and wet and nasty as it has been, and we all end up being cooped up indoors it can get to be a real hassle after a while. Even with all of the Christmas presents that they received just a week or so ago, they’ve started getting a bit antsy and are ready to get out of the house and back into the classroom.
