The Flu Has Now Reared It’s Ugly Head

They were not kidding on the evening news last week, I heard a story telling how the flu has not hit us hard this year, as of yet. That being said, they stated that it is just getting a late start and how the state of Virginia was just now getting hit with this years flu, and it hit my family hard, just a few short days of the news story.

We were really running low on so many things around the house and the refrigerator was looking pretty bare, and hubby was still looking pretty piqued today, so I decided to go out and brave the world on my own, armed with a pretty long list and my debit card. I really wanted him to get another good day of some rest and possible sleep while he can.

It did not take long to spend over $200 at the supermarket, but by the time I got home and unloaded it all from the car into the house and put away, I was too pooped to fix anything for our dinner. My hubby, at that point, insisted that he was up to the task and managed to put together the first decent home made meal that we both have had and enjoyed the taste of only once, ha ha!

Chili, a 2 Day Event

The weather dropped about 20 degrees since this time last week. It’s old man winter in the air and soon the snow that we have been waiting for will be here, possibly later this week.Tonight I asked hubby if he would mind fixing a big pot of chili for dinner. He makes the best chili – I don’t know what all he puts in that pot, but it sure comes out tasting good.

We like the chili on the second day, too. Sometimes the flavors need that extra time to come out and mature. So Chili is a two day event for us.

Personal Safety Devices

I’m thinking that it may be a good idea for either me or my parents to look into and buy pepper spray for my now teen aged kid sister. She only last week turned 13 and is just starting to get into the social scene, going to the mall with friends, attending a few parties here and there, well chaperoned I’m sure. But none the less I think that she should really consider carrying some type of personal safety device and know when and how to use it, if necessary.

I’m sure that we could find something useful online, and will look into it and speak with my mother about it next time we talk. I’m not there to keep a good eye out on her and it is a wacky world out there and she is a prime target at her age.

Back to School

The two week winter break will be over come Monday morning and the kids will be going back to school and life will settle down since the holiday season will be officially over and done with. I enjoy the kids being at home, don’t get me wrong, but when the weather is cold and wet and nasty as it has been, and we all end up being cooped up indoors it can get to be a real hassle after a while. Even with all of the Christmas presents that they received just a week or so ago, they’ve started getting a bit antsy and are ready to get out of the house and back into the classroom.

Adam Walsh, Case Closed

It is good to hear that the Walsh family will now be able to close the door (but not their hearts) on this unresolved tragic crime that was committed so long ago to their six year old son.At last they have finally closed the books and the case is now fully and completely through and done with. Too bad that the real criminal is all ready in Hell, I’m sure that they were plenty of people that would have liked to be there for his finale words and breath in this screwed up world.

This poor family has suffered for so long and have done such great things due to this horrific tragedy, I commend them all and wish them the warmest seasons greetings this year.

IP Addresses and your computer

I have to tell you that I am pretty familiar with computers, we have had a PC in the house for over twelve years, at least, but who is counting? Hubby and I both use computers and work and of course we use it quite a bit a home for all kinds of reasons, email being the most important.

But when it comes to the complicated issues over and above are basic needs neither one of us really have a limited knowledge of a lot of things. I do have a brother who is a computer whiz, if any family member needs assistance, he is the one that we call.

Over the family Thanksgiving dinner, that was held a few weeks ago, we heard my brother discussing computer issues with another family member, which caught my husband’s attention and he ended up sitting in on the conversation, which included the topic of IP addresses and the like.

It appears that the IP address is very important to some people so that they can identify their visitors geographical location, their country, their zip code, time zone, connection speed and much more. This is fascinating information that hubby and I were completely unaware of and has us wanting to learn more. My brother instructed my hubby to visit Ip2location.com, a website dedicated to IP address information, and it is full of good information that I think is worth while to pass on to others here.

One holiday dinner down, one to go….

I have had my hands full this past week, it was my turn, this year, to host the family Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner and I think that I pulled it off without a single hitch. We had a total of 23 family members attend, plus my whole gang, along with a few of their friends that attended as well, which put us at a grand total of 30! I’m so glad that I don’t have to do that again for a few years, and someone else is hosting the Christmas dinner that is coming in less than a month.

Everyone had a nice time, hassle free, no drama and now we have a refrigerator full of those wonderful holiday season leftovers to enjoy. The kitchen wasn’t completely cleaned up before hitting the sack, and I was pleased and surprised to see that when I got up this morning that someone had gone the extra mile last night and finished up what I was planning on doing this morning, and no one is fessing up this morning, so I have no idea who to thank and give special hugs and kisses to for their random act of kindness that is so appreciated by me today.

Marlo Thomas

Once in a great while I’ll record our NBC’s program “The Today Show”, to that I can enjoy some of the stories and features that are some times really interesting, entertaining, and educational, later on when I get a chance.

I have been a fan of Marlo Thomas for as long as I remember, from the days of seeing her on “That Girl” and have tried to follow her career through out the years. This morning she was on “The Today Show” talking about the foundation that she has gotten so heavily involved in for many years, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. I haven’t see her in some time and almost didn’t recognize her, but after she talked started in all started to fall into place, and still looking good, must be pushing 60 by now I’d think.

I think her Dad would be proud of all she has accomplished and has done with her life and talents.

Goblins and Ghosts

Tonight we had bunches of kids come to the house for trick or treating. I think there were twice as many as last year. We live in a nice neighborhood with a lot of kids, but I really think we had kids coming to the door that live far from here. There were cars lined up the street for 3 blocks as the parents drove slowly along watching their kids. I think it was good that they were staying with their kids, but why couldn’t they get out and walk along with the kids? They could probably have used the exercise and it would have been quality time with the kids.

We gave away a lot of candy. Glad that I stocked up at the warehouse club a couple weeks ago – we probably spent over $60 in candy for the kids. But it was fun seeing all the costumes. My favorite was a little blonde girl about 3 years old dressed like a princess with a flashing magic wand. She was absolutely adorable.

Good-bye to the Olympics and Hello to another School year!

The Olympics have come to an end, regular programing has resumed on NBC and I’m sure that we will be hearing a lot of interesting and exciting stories from many of the participants for the next couple of weeks. I’m sad that it has all come to an end, I enjoyed watching all of the events and hearing all about the wacky things that went down during all of the activities in China this time around.

On a much brighter note, school will be starting next Tuesday for our kids and we have survived another summer, and the kids are getting a bit nervous about the new school year. I have to admit I am a bit nervous also, since our youngest will be entering Middle School and I know it is a bit scarey and it certainly will be a challenge for him.
