A little something for the blog

So happy to be blogging again, as you’ll soon find out I love to chit chat and talk about just anything.  I even made a category called “anything,” because there is so much of that in this world of mine.

Made a fabulous dinner tonight that would have made any 5 star chef jealous. Served lobster and T-Bones along with salad and the usual side dishes.

After dinner, hubby and I got together and played the new game system together for a couple of hours. Then I did some cleaning around the house and put the prince to bed. About an hour later, we were all counting sheep.

My daughter’s first club experience in D.C. scared me

My daughter has never been the club type, but a few of her girlfriends wanted to go to one in D.C. and had been talking her into going with them. She scared the heck out of me because I told her to call me when she arrived and when she was on her way back home, and she forgot to call me when she was leaving and she apparently fell asleep in the car and her girlfriend took her to her house to sleep, and her phone died so I, of course, freaked out. When she returned home the next morning at about 7am, and I was so happy that I could finally go to sleep after staying up all hours of the night worrying about my first born.

Backed up sink!

Craziest thing with a house’s plumbing is that every so often, without rhyme or reason, the plumbing goes haywire. That’s what happened to me, I’m trying to wash dishes when the double sink in the kitchen just started backing up. My darling hubby decided to play plumber and try “snaking” the drain. When that failed he took apart the pipes under the sink, to no good end I might add. He then goes to the basement and starts snaking different sections of drain lines when one of them decides to blow foul water and waste material all over him! You could have heard him hollering all the way down the street. Poor hubby, He cleared the blocked pipe, but all I could do was to herd him into the shower and tell him if he can’t get the smell off he’ll have to sleep in the basement! (At least I got my sink back, and hubby knows the benefits of a hot, soapy shower too!

Gene Simmons is a “Hoot”

As some one who grew up in the 60’s and lived through the music of so many talented artists of the 50’s,60’s,70’s, and then, of course, the 80’s. My family was very music oriented and I had the opportunity to be exposed to all kinds of music and still do enjoy a variety of music to this day, when so many people limit theirs into just one or two kinds.

I remember the band by the name of KISS, they really made a statement and the public went wild about it, they certainly made a name for themselves and became extremely rich and famous with their hard rock, make-up and special effects that mainly consisted of some sort of fire.

So when I stumbled onto Gene Simmons reality show, Gene Simmons Family Jewels, late one night I decided to check it out and I instantly became hooked on it. Once again I remember a lot of their music and for the most part enjoyed it, although I would not consider myself as a die hard fan, so I have not been following their lives, but for some reason their show is funny and entertaining and gives you an insight into their personal family life that just makes me feel good about them and it amuses me to watch them.

If you haven’t ever watched the show you may want to consider checking it out sometime for a laugh or two, usually at Gene Simmons expense.

Leftovers

Hubby sure was happy to see us come home from the church supper with a big bundle of leftovers for him to enjoy. He gets to enjoy the good food without having to deal with the in-laws! Not that he minds anyone in my family really, but he just wanted to just stay at home this day and take a day to himself and get some rest. His meds are really hard on him some days and I know he needed the rest. So at least he didn’t miss out on any of the good food.

Knick Knacks

My grandmother had a small collection of figurines that she kept in a little display case. I must have inherited the collecting gene from her side of the family.

Some of them were Hummels that she bought in Germany when Pop Pop was stationed there. They were little porcelain girls and boys doing everyday things like sharing an umbrella or playing on a tree swing.

She had another one that was a dark color and very heavy – I think it was made of brass – of three monkeys. She always used to say that the monkeys knew more about proper behavior than most people. They were demonstrating “See no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil.”

Beautiful day outside

It is unbelievably beautiful outside today, so I’m thinking I’m going to go out and play some soccer with my teenage daughter, and maybe play some basketball with both of my kids. This should be good, I haven’t played any kind of sport what so ever in a long time, but I think I should stretch out and just love the time I can spend with my kids. Maybe I should try to talk my husband into playing with us, sounds like a plan to me.

Thank goodness for frozen meals

I used to enjoy cooking but I have noticed that the past few years I have started finding myself not looking forward to it as I used to.  I mean I would spend such an amount of time trying new recipes and shopping for the craziest of ingredients in a town such as the one that I live have only two main grocery stores.  Of course there is always Wal-Mart and I did notice the last time that I was at the Target here in town, that they have a grocery section there also.  It is limited but have the necessities that you could pick up to save you a separate stop at the “grocery store”, anything to save time, time is money.

I am cooking a frozen lasagna “Stouffers”, the whole family likes it, except the youngest one, who is the pickiest of eaters that is driving me crazy.  So I have fixed her something else that I dug out of the freezer also.

Tomorrow I will put a pot roast in the slow cooker, along with some potatoes and carrots, maybe a few onions to boot.  Sounds good doesn’t it.

Memorial Day Salute

memorial day

Today I watched a special show on the cable’s Military Channel while cooking dinner. It described the World War II battles in the Pacific Theater. That is where my grandfather was stationed while in the Navy. He did not fight at Iwa Jima, but he was on a nearby island. Every time I see the Iwa Jima stature, I think of my grandfather and what it must have been like to be fighting that war in the Pacific.

Students

Here we are in the last month of public school The kids are ready to get out of their classrooms and out on the beaches and parks for their summer break.

My kids have always loved school, but they love their vacation time more. I am trying to think of some good things to do over the summer break that will interest them and keep them busy.

In the meantime, the teachers are still trying to teach these kids a few things. I know that my kids are still bring home an hour or more of homework each night and still have some books to finish reading.
