Inspiring nephew

I have a nephew who is in his second year of college at one of the top elite universities here on the east coast, so he is not too far away but is still not as close as we would like him to be. He is a great kid and is bond to make a name for himself and will definitely make a difference in this world in numerous ways in his life time. Can you tell that I am a proud aunt!

His mom really misses him and only gets to see him maybe 2 or 3 times a year, his Dad lives way up north and he is constantly trying to appease both parents when it comes to holiday visits and vacations. Of course my sister seems to be constantly getting the short end of the stick, but that is the same struggle that she was dealing with even before he left for college. It really sucks when a kid is bounced back and forth and is stuck trying to please both sets of parents.

When he does get a chance to visit, he spends most of his time sleeping, eating and doing homework, which leaves not enough time, as far as she is concerned, for them to just hang out and talk and to do things together, alas she cherishes every moment that she can get out of him when she can.

Good Luck! – Part 2

LUCKY SEVEN.  Seven is the sum of three and four, the triangle and the square, which ancient Greeks considered the two “perfect figures.” The lunar cycle, which is 28 days, is divided into four seven-day quarters: New Moon, First Quarter, Full Moon, and Third Quarter. It may also come from the game of craps, where rolling a seven wins the roll.

LUCKY HUNCHES.  Believe it or not, this is from the days when rubbing a hunchback’s hump was considered good luck. The ancient Egyptians worshipped a hunchbacked god named Bes, and the ancient Romans hired hunchbacks as servants because they thought it brought the household good luck.

AMAZING LUCK

“IN March 1997, the Sunday Oklahoman profiled Oklahoma City homemaker Mary Clamser, 44, whose deterioration with multiple sclerosis had been abruptly halted in 1994 when lightning struck her house while she was grasping metal objects with each hand and wearing her metal leg brace.

“Suddenly, she began walking easily, and though doctors told her the condition was probably only temporary, she still walks easily today. As if that weren’t enough good luck, Clamser, in order to fly to California for a TV interview in April 1995, was forced to cancel a local appointment she had made at the Oklahoma City federal building for 9 a.m. on April 19.”

Chocolate for Mother’s Day!

Chocolate, I love chocolate, which is really strange, because for the last 20 years or so I had lost my taste for this wonderful treat that I can’t seem to get enough of this last year or so. I even like the sound of the word!

I was looking at some sites for Mother Day gift ideas, when I ran across this site www.gertrudehawkchocolates.com and not only did I see some great gift ideas for all of the mothers in my life, but I found some nice ideas that I will have to share with Hubby and the girls, so that they will have an idea of what I would like to receive this year, and Mother’s Day is coming quickly this year.

This really tastey site has not only great gift giving ideas, but corporate gifts,  plus I see that they also offer fundraising opportunities that my come in handy when my input is required for the many fundraising events that my girls are always getting me in to.

Movie and Dinner Time

Hubby and I haven’t done anything together in a long while, so we thought we would go eat dinner at Red Lobster and then go the theatre and watch a movie we haven’t seen yet this Friday evening. I can’t wait until I get to get out of the house, just the two of us. I finally get to spend some quality time with my hubby, for a change.

TravelHERO is so convenient

My family has been waiting all winter long to go to Disney World this coming summer, we needed to plan in advance what hotel we were going to stay at and how we were going to get there. Well after searching the Internet for a while I came across a website called Travelhero and had found that you can look up every hotel there and find cheap hotel reservations for any one of your choices. I had looked through a good amount of their options of hotels and had also found that they looked marvelous on the inside and out with great prices that I wasn’t at all expecting. We also reserved a car for us to rent for our transportation on TravelHERO, it was so quick and easy and I don’t have to worry about doing it later.

Out with the old, and in with the new

For years I have been dying to upgrade every piece of technology I have in the house, and try to make it more comfortable to us, and more appealing to the eye. Well I have taken a lot of electronics and sold them at the flea market to get a little bit back for all of it, and I am now ready to go shopping for my 56′ Big screen TV that I have always wanted. I am so excited to think about when I see my family’s faces when I arrive home with a huge TV.

The Cubs are Hubby’s choice of teams

Hubby has been a Chicago Cubs fan for ever and a day, his father was originally from “The Windy City” and they both went to the games all through-out his childhood and up until he moved down here right before he met me. As a matter of fact the first time I met him he was sporting a Cubs cap on his head.

I’m thinking of Father’s Day, which will be coming up in another month or so, and I want to get something different this year that will float Hubby’s boat real good.  I stumbled across a web-site www.cubworld.com that offers a nice selection of some cool Cubs gear along with other gifts and baseball memorabilia for die hard fans like him, things that just might put a smile on his face. I will call his Mom in the next couple of days when I have some time to chat and will pick her brain to see what she thinks he may like, she can go on-line and check out the goodies that CubWorld.com has and maybe she will choose something for his Dad for his Father’s Day gift also.

Bush appears on ‘Deal’ to thank a contestant (and war vet)

I can’t believe that I missed this, bummer!

Fri Apr 18, 8:02 PM ET

A presidential thank-you is part of the deal for a contestant on NBC’s game show, “Deal or No Deal,” when President Bush makes a surprise appearance.

The episode, airing Monday, features Capt. Joseph Kobes, as he attempts to win enough cash to pay off his parents’ home. But the dealmaking is briefly halted for Kobes, a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient who has served in Iraq three times. Bush surprises him by appearing on a screen to express gratitude for his service and wish him luck in the game.

Bush’s message was taped at the White House.

The game of odds, hosted by Howie Mandel, calls for a contestant to predict the amount of cash contained in any of 26 sealed briefcases. The top prize for guessing correctly is $1 million.

No details were released on how Kobes, an Army transportation officer from Sumner, Wash., fared in his quest for the jackpot.

BIG Boxing news!

It appears that Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told ESPN.com Wednesday. that last spring box office records were shattered when Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Oscar De La Hoya met, says that they are close to finishing a deal for a rematch scheduled for either September 13th or the 20th of 2008, which will be viewed on HBO pay-per-view.

And guess what Hubby wants for his Father’s Day present this year, yes he wants some Oscar De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. tickets even though they haven’t even decided where this main event will take place. Hubby says that it doesn’t matter where it will be held, that he will get there come hell or high water and that you can purchase the tickets already at on the web-site of .

I can’t say that I blame him, he has been an avid boxing fan since he was a little boy when he and his Dad would stay up late on nights that any boxing match was been shown on television.

I guess I better check it out and see if I can scrape up a little bit of extra cash so that I can make Hubby’s wish come true, it isn’t often that he ever tells me of anything that he wants for a gift on any of the many occasions that I have to give him something!

Mommy is going to cook dinner tonight

Today my sister had sent me a few receipts over the Internet that her and her family seemed to enjoy, and I find them to be very different then what we usually eat in my household. My son and I are going to go shopping for the ingredients we need to make something new and tasty that the entire family will love to eat for dinner, plus I think I need to do more cooking, I’ve been slacking in that area lately. By the way I do love my husband’s attempt in “Southern cooking”, but I do think it’s time for mommy to step in and take charge of the kitchen once again, and have a part in sitting down with the family and smiling and enjoying our delicious new food experiences.

Full bellies before it’s time to go to bed of course, I always say, or you wont have a good night’s sleep. My son had told me that he wants to help mommy cook dinner tonight, which by the way I think is an absolute great and fantastic idea. I can’t wait to try out our new food creations, and hopefully we won’t burn the kitchen down in the process!
