Goblins and Ghosts

Tonight we had bunches of kids come to the house for trick or treating. I think there were twice as many as last year. We live in a nice neighborhood with a lot of kids, but I really think we had kids coming to the door that live far from here. There were cars lined up the street for 3 blocks as the parents drove slowly along watching their kids. I think it was good that they were staying with their kids, but why couldn’t they get out and walk along with the kids? They could probably have used the exercise and it would have been quality time with the kids.

We gave away a lot of candy. Glad that I stocked up at the warehouse club a couple weeks ago – we probably spent over $60 in candy for the kids. But it was fun seeing all the costumes. My favorite was a little blonde girl about 3 years old dressed like a princess with a flashing magic wand. She was absolutely adorable.

More Movies

After I had a chance to think about it, I realized that there are some more movies that I love.

One of the classics is “Cool Hand Luke.” When I first watched that movie I came away with pure hatred for cops and our prison system. I still feel strongly about that, too.

Another that I absolutely love and came watch over and over again is “The Thirteenth Warrior.” The book was horrible – its a huge tribute to the movie director that he could see past the book and envision a movie from it. Fantastic look into the character of REAL men.

I’m sure I’ll think of some more really good movies that I’ve missed.

Today’s horoscope – Libra, that’s me

Libra

October 25, 2012                      I’m Libra

Winning the battle is not nearly as important as just making an effort to win, right now, so push yourself, but not too hard. You don’t have to prove yourself to others, now. You just have to keep doing what is right for you. You have a deep well of untapped potential, but there is no hurry to bring it up to the surface. Just take your time and appreciate the smaller things in life. Those mountains you want to climb aren’t going anywhere anytime soon!

Good Movies

Everyone must have a short list of movies that are their favorites. If I asked you to pick five or maybe 10 movies that you would want to keep at home to watch over and over again, what would they be? Some people call that your deserted island picks. There are a lot of movies that I like for different reasons. My desert island picks would have to include:

  1. Raising Arizona
  2. The Usual Suspects
  3. Star Wars
  4. Finding Nemo
  5. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
  6. Under the Tuscan Sun
  7. The Matrix
  8. Tombstone
  9. The Blues Brothers
  10. Animal House

Good-bye to the Olympics and Hello to another School year!

The Olympics have come to an end, regular programing has resumed on NBC and I’m sure that we will be hearing a lot of interesting and exciting stories from many of the participants for the next couple of weeks. I’m sad that it has all come to an end, I enjoyed watching all of the events and hearing all about the wacky things that went down during all of the activities in China this time around.

On a much brighter note, school will be starting next Tuesday for our kids and we have survived another summer, and the kids are getting a bit nervous about the new school year. I have to admit I am a bit nervous also, since our youngest will be entering Middle School and I know it is a bit scarey and it certainly will be a challenge for him.

The 2008 Olympics have fantastic gymnastics

I love it when the Olympics come around, the gymnastics portion always seems to keep me on the edge of my seat and are so fun and exciting to watch each time.

Today when I checked my email I found the same old, same old, but I was happy to see that the Kodak Company had enclosed this wonderful picture along with their weekly emails that end up in my mailbox time after time in an effort to have me purchase more merchandise from them ever since I bought my digital camera and had to go online so that I could download my pictures into my PC and now they just love sending me weekly reminders to let me know that they are still around in case I need them. Anyway, hope you enjoy the picture and I hope you enjoy the Olympics as much as I do.

Day of swimming

This has got to be the hottest summer ever that I remember since moving here. What ever happened to the nice summer days that could be spent outdoors and enjoy the sun without having to worry about passing out from the heat and humidity.

With only one month left before school starts, the kids have been pestering me to take them to the city pool, so we decided that today, the whole family was going to pack up and spend the day having fun in the sun and pool water. It was too bad that I woke up from a horrible night of not being able to sleep and I was in no mood to go in public and deal with all that it takes to spend a day at the pool.

So hubby stayed home with me, while the oldest picked up all there friends and went for the first time to the pool with out one of us going along with. It worked out find, the had a blast and I rested up a bit and am feeling much better!

You think gas is expensive here in the U.S., you should see how much……

I know that every time we Americans whine about the cost of gas, someone will pipe up with the cost of gas in Europe is so much higher – that was the first thing that came out my my Hubby’s mouth a year or so ago when the price was once again starting to climb up drastically, it’s so expensive they sell it by the liter instead of the gallon, yadda yadda yadda.

Well, it’s too expensive here in the US and it is also too expensive in Europe. They had a huge truckers strike last month to make that point. I’m concerned that we are getting close to seeing the same thing here, as the cost of diesel is even higher than the $4 a gallon gasoline. If the truckers start causing shortages, the cost of everything will sky rocket.

I’m getting really nervous about how the cost of gas is going to affect us all and our quality of life in America. Might be a good time to make moves toward more self sufficiency and stocking up on essentials – just in case. Thoughts to ponder over.

Mexico is this year’s reunion for sister to attend

My sister has all the luck, it seems at times anyway. Her hubby’s family meets every single year for a reunion of sorts, and they move around to a different location every year. The family usually gets a fantastic deal through a friend or a family member, for their accommodations, this is a huge family that has plenty of connections all over the world so they get to go to some really awesome places for their get togethers.

This year they are holding the event in Mexico, at the Rocky Point beach area, she tells me that this year they are looking into some Rocky Point rental homes for their use this time around and she sent me a couple of links to some web-sites about the area, so that I can share in her excitement of this years fun in the sun!  I can’t help but be a bit envious of them all.

I hope that it all works out well and that none of her kids, her husband or her get sick at the last minute and end up missing this years fun. One year they couldn’t go at the last minute because a couple of her kids and her hubby caught a bug the day before leaving and so the whole family had to miss that years fun in New Orleans. And as I have always told her, if one or two of her kids get sick she can bring them here to recuperate, I can look after them so that the rest of them would be able to go and enjoy themselves without worrying about the sick kids and all. That is what sisters do isn’t it?

Son is passionate about his games and game guides

My youngest is so totally into the video games, whether it be Nintendo, PlayStation, XBox or any other ones that have come out lately that I haven’t yet learned about through listening to him go on and on about with such excitement and joy. He is really good at them and I do believe that their is a learning value that goes along with the entertainment part of it, but we won’t go into all of that right now.

I’m glad that he is passionate about these things and happy that he has found something that will keep him busy and happy for some time.
