Corn Fields & Their Mazes

A few years ago I heard about a local farmer who took his tractor out in the corn field and cut a series of paths in the stalks. He had a particular design planned out, and when he was finished he sent his kids out to find their way through the maze. When they got out the other side there was a prize waiting for the first one out. They loved it and told their friends and next thing you know they had a bunch of people wanting to go through the maze, too .Now all of a sudden a bunch of farmers had picked up on that idea and are cutting mazes into their corn fields and then charging admission for people to come try to find their way out. It’s actually a fun way for a family to spend together doing something outside in the fresh air and supporting the local farmers who could use a few extra bucks considering all that they have to go through trying to make a living off a farm.

If you have one in your area go ahead and give it a try. I bet you have a nice time and you could probably use the exercise, too!

Three Heroes

3 heroes

What a great phot of three superstars These three are at the top of my list heroes. Richard Petty, NASCAR champion standing beside Reba McIntyre and Charlie Daniels. Wow!

About as Useless

I was trying to think of a good phrase to post on Facebook to kid a friend. He mentioned in oe of his posts that he can’t dance. So I wanted to flippantly say, “A man who cannot dance is about as useless as . . . . ” but I couldn’t think of anything! I hate it when I know there is a word or phrase on the tip of my tongue but it just won’t come forth!

I searched on Google for the phrase and not much of anything come up in the search results. So I stepped away from the computer for a bit and cooked dinner. While I was cooking, I did get an idea of what to say. I finished the phrase with: “. . . an ashtray on a Harley.”

My friend now has her own blog

My long time best friend, Rachel, listens to me as I talk on and on at times about my blogging and she has finally consented to give it and try, which tickles me pink! She has been doing it for over three weeks now, posting sometimes a couple of posts a day.

She was frantic when her PC crashed for 2 days, she had to get her son to come over and work his computer magic and got it back up and running, good as new. During her down time we spent several hours on the phone, which has become something that we don’t do much anymore since we rely on email and Instant Messengers so much.

Anyway, Rachel is once again happy to be back blogging, she has found it to be as therapeutic as I have, let’s you release some of your negative energy onto the keyboard and feel better after doing so. So a new blogger has been born, Welcome, Rachel!

Playing in the rain

This weather has made it a challenge for the kids to be playing outside, enjoying their summer vacation from school. We have been experiencing severe thunder and lightening storms, but the temperature is still on the high side of being in the 90’s and all of the kids and their friends what to go outside and jump on the trampoline and play outside.

I remember as a kid, my mother never allowed us to play in the rain, never, I guess she was afraid of one of us getting sick and then the rest of us would get sick and then my mother would have to deal with all of these sick kids.

I on the other hand encourage my kids to go outside and play in the rain, as long as it isn’t the least bit chilly and that there isn’t any lightening going on. I believe there is no reason in the world for them not to unless they would become wet and cold from it. But a good play in the nice warm rain when it is hot outside is good for everybody, that is my story and I’m sticking with it.

So when all of the kids are whining about it raining out and them not being able to play outside, I tell them go ahead and go and have a blast doing it, just be careful.

The “Pool”

My dearest hubby and his friends are always into the company sports pool they hold for everything from baseball, to football to basketball and anything in between. They even do one about a “Fantasy Team” where they pick their players, I’m still not quite sure how they do that one.

Hubby’s favorite is his baseball picks, every season, all season long! His favorite Internet site is where he gets, what he likes to call, his daily “fix”. Men! Sometimes they’re just big kids. The only difference between them and the toddlers is the cost of their toys!

I love chocolate and Fannie May is awesome

As a kid I loved candies and chocolates, and as I aged I pretty much lost the taste for such sweat treats, but I am glad to say that in the past two years or so I have rekindled my love for them again. And what is so cool is that there are so many types of candies these days to choose from and I don’t mean the kids kind of candies, I’m talking the kind that is more expensive and caters to my generation and I’m loving every minute of it.

It occurred to me that since I am doing so much on the Internet these days, that I could shop around for my candies on-line, and I don’t know why I didn’t think of it sooner. One of my favorite candy companies is Fannie May, they have been around forever, almost everyone has heard of them and tasted at least one of their treats and you know that when you purchase one of their products that you are going to get a good quality piece of candy and they have a great selection to choose from. So I ventured onto the Fannie May web-site and was so happy to see that you can order directly from them and what really got me excited was to find that you can create your own assortment any way that you want it and have them ship it to you or where ever else you would want them to go.

Lyrics for Rap and Hip Hop

Music is life and life is music, I can’t imagine my life without music, in fact since my mom was a dancer and my father was in a band, I wouldn’t even be here without music. Hubby and I both enjoy all kinds of music and I have instilled the love of all music in our kids the best that we could.

Our teenager has always enjoyed music, like most kids do, and now she listens to this new musical concept called “Rap.” I really am not a fan of this type of music although now and then I will hear something that I enjoy bouncing around to, but not too often.

I was on the Internet the other day and was looking up the words to a song that my father would have me sing as a kid called “Little Sir Echo” and I was surprised how easy it was to find them with all of the sites out there now that help you in your search of song titles and lyrics.

Sudden Interest in Africa

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems that there has been a lot of sudden interest in Africa. There are a lot of shows on TV about the animals of Africa and expeditions there. Then there are all the pirates and the racial discrimination of South Africa.

I think the worst of it now is the ethnic cleansing and war and untreated disease. It is so unnecessary, yet thousands of people are being killed every day by rampaging militia groups and renegades, and the awful AIDS virus.

Chili, a 2 Day Event

The weather dropped about 20 degrees since this time last week. It’s old man winter in the air and soon the snow that we have been waiting for will be here, possibly later this week.Tonight I asked hubby if he would mind fixing a big pot of chili for dinner. He makes the best chili – I don’t know what all he puts in that pot, but it sure comes out tasting good.

We like the chili on the second day, too. Sometimes the flavors need that extra time to come out and mature. So Chili is a two day event for us.
