I Love My New Nook!

My mom bought my one of the best birthday presents, ever! She got me a Nook reader! It is really awesome!

She gave me a $20 gift card with the Nook, so I went online at Barnes and Noble and immediately found 3 books that I have been wanting to read. It only took a few second to download the books on my my Nook and I was reading the first one last night!

The one weird thing about the Nook is that there is not way to turn it off. That’s right! It is always on. There is a sleep feature if you set it down and walk away for longer than 15-20 minutes. But when you come back it fires right up and is still on the same page where you left off.

The battery life is supposed to be about 2 weeks with normal use. Isn’t that amazing?

Cute Recipe

I found a really cute recipe on a sister site that I am going to try, thought I would share it.  Now that I have reached the age of 50, the Red Hat Society is very interested in me, so is the AARP!

“Pink Stuff”

From the Red Hat Society cookbook pg 276

1 can sweetened condensed milk

1 (12oz) container whipped topping, thawed

1 (20 oz) can cherry pie filling

1 (15 oz) can crushed pineapple, well drained

1 (15 oz) can mandarin oranges, drained

Red food coloring – a few drops, optional

Stir together the condensed milk and whipped topping.  Fold in the cherry pie filling.  Fold in the pineapple and oranges.  If you want a deeper pink color, add a few drops of red food coloring.  Refrigerate at least 4 hours prior to serving.

Why Don’t Men Like Dr. Phil

I’ve never been much of an Oprah fan, I mean she has and does great things and in my opinion, she is a wonderful woman – I just never got into watching her talk show.  I know that she is responsible for Dr. Phil’s successful T.V. talk show, which I usually enjoy watching, if I am at home to watch it.

For a while there, he was boring me with what seemed to be nothing but unhappily married couples day after day, which I tired of quickly, and I know that at times he can appear very full of himself, but for the most part his show can, and does, stimulate my mind while being entertained, to boot!

I do notice that a good majority of men bash Dr. Phil and it really puzzles me.  Hubby even dislikes watching the show and carries on about how Dr. Phil isn’t really a shrink and isn’t licensed, and then he spouts off something about how he is really just a botanist,  I’m not sure where he came up with that info, and I’ve given up on trying to figure that one out.

So when it comes to watching a talk show that Hubby and I both enjoy, I must admit that the winner is ELLEN , hands down.

One day I’ll be a Grandma

I’m in no hurry, but it would be nice to be able to spend time with a newborn again.  Once in a while, like at the mall, I’ll see a really cute baby and I get that feeling of wanting to have another baby, I’ll see the little tiny shoes or a delightfully cute stuffed animal and the motherly instinct comes pouring out.  But the feeling usually doesn’t last long and I get over it, hearing the kids screaming in the stores makes me snap out of it real quick.

I must say that every year the products that flood the newborn baby/toddler market are getting really cool, most of which I would have loved to been able to use during those precious years.  We had the standards of course like the basic baby swing, walker, bassinet, back then was when the computerized toys were just starting come out.

I’ve been invited to a baby shower next week and I have ordered a nice baby sling from Slinglings.com they have a great variety of colors and fabrics to select from with their different styles of their baby sling.  You can use them up until the baby is 35 lbs and it really helps reduce the need of a big bulky stroller.  No ties, no buckles, or Velcro,  just slip it on and place your baby in it and you are ready to roll…Wish I had a baby sling back in the day!

A Day at the Pool

Today was the perfect day to go to the pool. Everyone slept in a little late this morning. We didn’t get back from the fireworks until nearly midnight and everyone was wired up from all of the excitement of all of the wonderful displays that our local recreation center produced this year, in celebrating the 4th of July.

Once the house started waking up and everyone had fed their face with some type of nourishment from my fully stocked kitchen. I went shopping yesterday and spent a fortune on items to take with us to the show, things like beer, wine, wine coolers, sodas, Gatorade, bottled water, chips, dips, crackers, cookies, fruits, well you get the point. So the kitchen is now over flowing with munchies that should last all week-end long, maybe.

Anyway, we decided that today was the first nice day that we have had in a while so we packed up all of our swimming pool gear and took off for a day in the sun and water fun. It was great, fun was had by all, even Hubby came along this time, which is rare these days, and now I’m totally beat and sun burned and ready for bed.

By the way, a belated Happy Independence Day to America, may God Bless us all!

Want To Travel

Now that the kids are getting a bit older there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel and I am anxious to do the traveling that I’ve always wanted to do, while still including the kids, but not focusing the entire trip mainly on kiddie activities.

The Internet has really opened the doors for the general public to see what is out there, when it is and for what price – plus it has given many ways for us to tie up all of the loose ends that are involved in planning a trip.

My guess is that every family wants to go to Disneyland and stay at the Disneyland Anaheim hotel, which for us is a 3000 mile trip all the way across the U.S. from where we live. A long trip like that with my gang would normally require a lot of my time in researching and planning.

Since my parent live in Florida, years ago on one of our numerous visits with them down in the Sunshine State, that was when the kids were really very young, we all went to Disney World and wow it was an adventure!  Since my folks lived to close by it fell on their shoulders to handle all the planning/entertaining, now that’s the way to do it, ha ha, just kidding.

While researching on the Internet I was looking at a web site: TravelHero.com amd it made me aware that there is so much more out there for families to explore that are set in-between the two coast lines. On their map you can see all theses different places that you can click on and get all the info you’d need for your stay.   They provide discount hotel reservations as well as helping you find a flight and assist in reserving a car for your use, smooth and stress free!  I even saw something on there about golf!

Reading Should Help Me Relax

For the most part I have enjoyed reading, but since getting married and starting a family there doesn’t leave much time to sit down and read a good book other than the monthly Reader’s Digest that mainly stays in our bathroom.  A short story here and there, a laugh or two, and keeping up with the newest controversies from all over is about all the recreational reading that I get now a days.

I keep hearing from other busy Moms about the Book Clubs that they belong to and how much they enjoy reading books, it is one way that they can relax and help ease the stresses of their busy scheduled days.

Since the kids are getting a bit older and can entertain themselves a bit more easily (I guess so with TVs, DVDs, CD’s, PC’s, Playstations, Nintendo’s, X-Boxes, cell phones, etc.) I have decided that I will start taking some time and start reading some of the many books that we have sitting on our dusty bookshelves.  Of course this reading will take place after my blogging has been finished because I truley enjoy this as well.

So, off to the bookcases I go, I hope the dust bunnies won’t get too upset with me for invading their “Personal Space”.

War Paint

My teen spends a good amount of her time on the computer as much as the rest of us do.  I make an effort to keep an eye on what she is up to while on the Internet and it has given us plenty of opportunities to spend time with each other while surfing the net.

She has been into fashion and make-up since she turned 3 and we have spent a lot of time together playing with different girlie things, putting on make-up and doing hair.  Her girlfriends used to come over and invade my suitcases full of old colorful clothing that they could play dress-up with and have a blast.  I’d always had as much glitter on the floor as dust bunnies, that is before she has toned such things down with age.

Makeup is a big part of being a little girl, they watch Mom putting it on, day after day, and boys even like putting it on, they just called it by another name “War Paint”!

Driving Miss Daisy

Being a working mother makes it difficult to be able to watch an entire movie. If the phone rings or someone rings the doorbell it is me that gets up to tend to it and I’m always jumping up to get someone something to drink or eat or to switch the laundry to the dryer, etc……

Anyway, I could have sworn that I watched the entire movie “Driving Miss Daisy” years ago, but when I was flipping channels last night and found that this movie was the only thing on, I realized that I had missed most of the movie. Either that or my memory is worse than I though and I just don’t remember the darn thing. I’m glad that I watched it last night, it was a great movie.

Saturdays Used To Be Fun

Remember when Saturdays used to be the day that all week you looked forward to.  It was a fun day full of friends, activities and late night fun.  Now it is all about sleeping a little later than the weekdays, but not too much later because all of the chores that have been building up all week are waiting all for you.

Got most of my chores taken care of for the day, my youngest is having a friend stay the night, which is good because that will keep him occupied, while I tend to his Dad, who is still on the couch!
