Marlo Thomas

Once in a great while I’ll record our NBC’s program “The Today Show”, to that I can enjoy some of the stories and features that are some times really interesting, entertaining, and educational, later on when I get a chance.

I have been a fan of Marlo Thomas for as long as I remember, from the days of seeing her on “That Girl” and have tried to follow her career through out the years. This morning she was on “The Today Show” talking about the foundation that she has gotten so heavily involved in for many years, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. I haven’t see her in some time and almost didn’t recognize her, but after she talked started in all started to fall into place, and still looking good, must be pushing 60 by now I’d think.

I think her Dad would be proud of all she has accomplished and has done with her life and talents.

Good-bye to the Olympics and Hello to another School year!

The Olympics have come to an end, regular programing has resumed on NBC and I’m sure that we will be hearing a lot of interesting and exciting stories from many of the participants for the next couple of weeks. I’m sad that it has all come to an end, I enjoyed watching all of the events and hearing all about the wacky things that went down during all of the activities in China this time around.

On a much brighter note, school will be starting next Tuesday for our kids and we have survived another summer, and the kids are getting a bit nervous about the new school year. I have to admit I am a bit nervous also, since our youngest will be entering Middle School and I know it is a bit scarey and it certainly will be a challenge for him.

The 2008 Olympics have fantastic gymnastics

I love it when the Olympics come around, the gymnastics portion always seems to keep me on the edge of my seat and are so fun and exciting to watch each time.

Today when I checked my email I found the same old, same old, but I was happy to see that the Kodak Company had enclosed this wonderful picture along with their weekly emails that end up in my mailbox time after time in an effort to have me purchase more merchandise from them ever since I bought my digital camera and had to go online so that I could download my pictures into my PC and now they just love sending me weekly reminders to let me know that they are still around in case I need them. Anyway, hope you enjoy the picture and I hope you enjoy the Olympics as much as I do.

Singing the Blues

I took my car in for it’s much needed oil change and just as always, they found other issues that need tending to, and I walked away paying over close to $400 and the need to schedule an appointment next week, to bring it back in when the rest of the parts have come in.

Today my daughter borrowed my car to run an errand and returned home with news of a heavy duty oil leak coming out of the bottom of the engine.

Long story short, my car was towed to the garage, $50 just like that, badda boom, badda bing, and the mechanic won’t even be able to look at the darn thing until Monday. I was informed that it doesn’t look good and that my car would be out of commission for several days and I’m sure to the tune of some major bucks!

I’m singing the car repair blues today, and it sounds like a very long and tearful song.

You think gas is expensive here in the U.S., you should see how much……

I know that every time we Americans whine about the cost of gas, someone will pipe up with the cost of gas in Europe is so much higher – that was the first thing that came out my my Hubby’s mouth a year or so ago when the price was once again starting to climb up drastically, it’s so expensive they sell it by the liter instead of the gallon, yadda yadda yadda.

Well, it’s too expensive here in the US and it is also too expensive in Europe. They had a huge truckers strike last month to make that point. I’m concerned that we are getting close to seeing the same thing here, as the cost of diesel is even higher than the $4 a gallon gasoline. If the truckers start causing shortages, the cost of everything will sky rocket.

I’m getting really nervous about how the cost of gas is going to affect us all and our quality of life in America. Might be a good time to make moves toward more self sufficiency and stocking up on essentials – just in case. Thoughts to ponder over.
