Happy Fathers Day, Dad

dad

My dad is a great guy. He works too much and plays hard. I’m glad that I “take after” him, except for the work too much part. I should back off a little from those long hours and make more time for family and friends.

Letterman vs Palin

Good grief. This Letterman joke and Palin overreacting is getting ridiculous. The Chicago Tribune site calls out for Letterman to offer a formal apology. His aired apology pretty much covered it. The joke was a joke. Palin needs to get over it. Her remarks to Matt Lauer this morning were out of line and typical of a redneck getting all het up over nothing.

I’m SOOOO glad that she is not our Vice President. I hate to think that this white trash hussy could have been one heartbeat away from actually being President and shaming us all. I’m not even a political activist. But my goodness, don’t you agree that this woman and her trashy family are a train wreck?

Did They Laugh?

Is it a joke if no one laughs? If the joke is on you and everyone laughs, is it on the person telling the joke? Or is it on you for giving the joke substance?

Baby Blog

One of my girlfriends is expecting a baby in August and I want to buy her some baby gifts. It is getting harder and harder to find unique baby gifts that will be useful and appreciated. But I am still searching.

Jenny started writing a blog and although it is not a day by day accounting of her pregnancy, it is a nice journal that she will be able to look back on and read, years down the road. I think that is really cool. I hope she keeps writing and adds some pictures of the baby after she is born. I think you can even export everything you’ve written and print it out as a scrapbook or diary. That would be unique!

Bakugan Novice

The kids are all talking about a new game and cartoon series called Bakugan. I don’t know much about it, but the cartoons are the Japanese anime style cartoon and seem to be entertaining with an ongoing storyline of “right is might.” What I like is that the heroes include some girl characters, although they have an annoying way of crying a lot.

Easy Roast Beef

Tonight I put a sirloin roast into a Reynolds roasting bag, along with some chopped onion and a can of mushroom soup. I sprinkled just a little garlic pepper on top of the roast before I tied up the bag and poked a couple of air vent holes in the top. Popped it into the oven at 350 degrees and left it there for an hour and half. It was cooked so nicely – lots of flavor and plenty of gravy. What an easy way to make a great roast beef.

For Mom

Today we all gathered at my mom’s house and had a big dinner. All her kids pitched in some money to buy her one big gift – a new refrigerator. We know she has been wanting something new for the kitchen, as much as she loves to cook.

It was kind of fun to watch my brother slowly drive up her gravel driveway with the big new refrigerator in the back of his truck. My sister in law had made up a huge pink bow and taped it on the front door to make it look gift wrapped.

It doesn’t sound like a very sexy gift, but my mom was thrilled and completely surprised. So mother’s day was a hit at my mom’s house this year.

Man Bashing

943

I am sick of hearing all the girls at the office complaining about their husbands and boyfriends. The crap they put up with it totally unbelievable to me. I would kick a man to the curb before I would put up with the stuff I hear about in the break room.

I am starting to wonder if there are any decent men out there any more.

Spring Flowers

The best part of April is the Spring flowers. We have all kinds of flowers blooming in gardens, along driveways and on the hillsides as you drive down the back roads. One of my favorite flowers is the tulip.

As a child I was fascinated with stories about Holland and the fields of tulips with windmills. I would love to see that some day. If I ever get the chance to travel outside of the United States, I would love to go to the Netherlands.

She Did It

Susan Boyle knuckled under and got herself a makeover. Here is a before and after photo that I found. She says that she just went to the local village beauty shop and only paid about $50 for the cut and color. That’s less than it would cost here, so good for her!
