Cooking from Scratch

This morning we have a lot of cooking to do, as we are all expected at my mother’s house for a family gathering. September is a big month for family birthdays, so a few years ago we decided to have one huge family party at my mother’s and each birthday person gets their own cake to blow out candles and we all pitch in to give each one a nice present that is opened in front of the whole crowd.

The big deal about the gathering, besides celebrating birthdays, is that everyone has to bring food with them and the food has to be prepared from scratch. No deli-bought potato salad and no store bought breads or frozen vegetables. I have to get to the store and buy some things and get busy in the kitchen.

Well, Hello

My girlfriend’s very first movie line is, “Well, hello ! I’ve been waiting for you to call all day.” LOL

Heading to Nashville

We have a 4 day convention in Nashville this week, so I’m driving up there tonight. The convention was going to be at the Opryland hotel, but it got flooded in May when Nashville had that terrible time with the Cumberland River flooding the downtown and hundreds of homes and businesses along the river. So we are having the convention at the Renaissance Hotel instead.

The best part is that I will get to see one of my college friends while I’m there. Alexa works in the Nashville suburbs and is going to drive downtown to meet me for lunch on Friday. I wish we had more time together, but this convention is a pretty full schedule.

Discovering Facebook

Well, I’ve discovered Facebook. I guess I’m not an early adaptor, as I heard about it a long time ago but didn’t feel the need to sign up until just recently. Now that I am on board, I love it! I have found al ot of people from previous jobs, high school – even summer camp as a teen. It’s great to reconnect with all this cool people from my past and find out what they are doing now.

Hi Jenny

This is a shout out to my friend, Jenny Corbett. We used to live in the same neighborhood and although she is a little older than me, I remember a lot about her and her family. I would love to gt together with her and talk about the good old days. So, maybe putting that in writing here on my blog will reinforce my level of commitment to make that happen!

Memorial Day

We have the day off from work and a lot of people go away for a long weekend. This is Memorial Day Weekend, the unofficial start of summer for a lot of places.

I drove by the veterans cemetery in Madison and was happy to see a flag and red flowers at every one of the soldiers white granite headstones.

Mani Pedi

Now that I can wear shorts and flip flops, I’ll be paying more attention to my legs and feet. I have bought some new flip flops and also a nice pair of black sandals. So now I need to schedule a mani-pedi and get my feet ready for summer streets.
