Columbus Day
For some reason, I totally forgot that today is Columbus Day. When you work in retail, holidays don’t have the same meaning as the white collar office rats or the blue collar workers. It is the weekend for big sales on mattresses and a variety of clothing and jewelry items.
I don’t care about the sales right now. What bothered me was not being able to go to the bank and get some cash out. It wasn’t until I pulled up to the drive up window and noticed that all was dark and abandoned that I realized it was a holiday.
No Help
I used to think the ultimate luxury was a mani-pedi, but now I am realizing that the best thing that could happen to me is to have a maid come clean my entire place – top to bottom. I would love to have someone else deal with scrubbing, wiping and grease cutting. As much as I love a clean home, doing the cleaning is really getting tiresome.
Allergies
Something bad is in the air. When I stepped outside this morning I immediately felt bad. Seriously bad. Like I could not breathe. I started gagging and coughing and could not get my breath. I don’t know what is in the air this morning that wasn’t there yesterday, but whatever it is, I can’t deal with it.
Cooking from Scratch
This morning we have a lot of cooking to do, as we are all expected at my mother’s house for a family gathering. September is a big month for family birthdays, so a few years ago we decided to have one huge family party at my mother’s and each birthday person gets their own cake to blow out candles and we all pitch in to give each one a nice present that is opened in front of the whole crowd.
The big deal about the gathering, besides celebrating birthdays, is that everyone has to bring food with them and the food has to be prepared from scratch. No deli-bought potato salad and no store bought breads or frozen vegetables. I have to get to the store and buy some things and get busy in the kitchen.
Happy Easter
CSIs
We still have three CSI shows and I end up watching them here and there. I’m not really a big fan of any of them, although I do favor the original one based in Las Vegas over the other two.
I’m surprised that they stopped at three shows. I was really hoping for a western themed CSI – like Dallas or even Oklahoma City. And I think they could do one based in New Orleans, too. That would give us a different CSI for each night of the work week.
Hello Miss Evelyn
My darling neighbor is Evelyn Dewars. I have known Miss Evelyn for probably 20 plus years. She has always been next door as long as I can remember. so imagine my surprise when we bumped into each other at the gas station and she mentioned something in her blog. I didn’t eve know she was writing a blog! So I thought it would be nice to mention Miss Evelyn in my blog and see if she likes that.
Got a Pen?
Have you noticed how none of the grocery stores keep pens at the check out counter any more? They have a stylus for using the credit card machine and they don’t want you to write a check any more. At my Food Lion, they take my blank check and run it through their register. Then they give me back the check! It makes to sense to even write the check out if they are going to give it back to you!
More Winter Coming
The little furry critter that is our weather expert has emerged from his hole in the ground and been spooked by his shadow. So we have at least 6 more weeks of winter coming.
I have to wonder if this groundhog in Pennsylvania really speaks for the whole country or perhaps just the mid Atlantic states and points north, like New England, where more winter might be a little more easy to predict? I don’t expect the weather in Pennsylvania to be very similar to the weather down here. But then again, winter is winter. So I guess we’ll see what we get.
