Independence Day Festivities

This year the 4th of July happens to fall on a Friday which means that a lot of people have gone out of town in order to take advantage of a three day week-end, but there are still plenty of folks who are still in town and the neighborhood is filled with wonderful smelling aroma’s from all of the outdoor barbecues that are going on in backyards everywhere today.

I happen to go into town and was visiting a friend that lives in a very diverse neighborhood so the aromas from many nations are mingling together and it makes for an interesting experience if you happen to wander outside during all of this grilling. It isn’t just hamburgers and hot dogs that I smell anymore.

I have not found myself going to see a firework display in quite a few years, just not into the crowds much anymore, but I did get to kick back and watch many wonderful fireworks that were being televised from all over the U.S.  I got to view these on my brand new 49″ Flat screen HD TV.  I enjoyed them in the privacy of my own home, which is the way I prefer things in today’s complex world.

Conserving energy is the right thing to do

I have always been an avid advocate on recycling and doing anything that I possibly can to conserve our earth’s precious energy sources. Almost everyday I do try to do something more to help the world around me, and I think that the time is right for me to go buy some CFL light bulbs to use as replacement bulbs when my incandescent bulbs burn out.

This attempt of saving energy is good for lowering the monthly electric bill, and good for preserving our earth’s environment.  We all need to do our part to help!

Independent aging Grandmother being sent to nursing home

Received a disturbing phone call from my sister today informing me that they have placed my grandmother, of 98 years of age, into a nursing home. There is no doubt in mind that she absolutely hates being kept there. She has always been very independent and does not like for people to have to fuss over her. I’m much like her in feeling the same way, I do not like people to fuss over me unless I’m sick then it is OK.

The whole family has been like that since I can remember. From the top to the bottom a feisty very belligerent bunch to say the least. I will go out to Oklahoma to see grandmother at some point soon, something that I have been putting off for too long and now the time has come where I must, and I will.  I need to see why she was placed in a nursing home and if it is a permanent thing or just until she gets better.  She did have a bit of a fall but I thought she was fine.  Guess I better start making plans to check into this and soon.

Solar power news

According to an article I read on a Reuters web-site, a study was written by the Clean Edge and environmental nonprofit Co-op America that has declared that solar power will be cost competitive with fossil fuels like natural gas and coal by the year of 2015.  I think that this is the best news I’ve heard of concerning this issue in a while; I’d certainly like to see a whole hell of a lot more alternative energy sources developed and expanded as well!

Wouldn’t it be great to see solar energy, wind energy, and gasoline made from algae to be our every-day energy sources!  I’m sick and tired of the constant price increases of gasoline, and being held hostage by the companies and countries that are raking in obscenely record profits from their oil.

Memory issues

My good old dependable Dell laptop seems to be full to the rim.  I now definitely need more space on the poor old guy.  I didn’t know that much about memory issues, like how much one should have or how much I might need so the one I got only has 18 gig of memory.  At the time it was just fine when I first got it but now, it’s totally full.

Once more the Internet will come to my rescue and will be the most useful tool that anyone could ask for in researching something like this.  Good thing too because I don’t know very many people that know anything more about their computers than just using the email capabilities of it and of course how to download games and stuff like that.

Sky Dogs

I do on occasion have a few friends and family members come by for brief visits time to time. I enjoy the children that are brought along and  I do have a way with children. My house is full of interesting and unusual artifacts that it doesn’t take long to get a kid interested in a certain piece or a collection of the various Native Americana items that are so fascinating and hold many interesting stories and myths inside them.

I even have a few books that I enjoy telling them stories from, for some of the ones they can sit down long enough to really pay attention and listen too.  One of my favorites just so happens to be about my own people of the Indian nation and it is called, “Sky Dogs”, and was written by Jane Yolen.

When horses first appeared to the Blackfeet people, they thought the strange animals were large dogs sent as a gift from the sky – from God, creator of all things.

It’s a good story, if you run across a copy I urge you to pick it up and give it a read. It is a short story of our people and how they came to know of horses.

Go Trusted

I was told about an on-line company by the name of Go Trusted which provides you with a fast and easy way to keep your identity in check with the capabilities of hiding your IP address while protecting your privacy and safe guarding your important data that we all now keep our fair share of on our computers.

Easy enough to check out by going to www.GoTrusted.com. They offer a 7 day free trial, and if you want to keep their service it is only $5.99 a month, which is a good price to pay for all that they offer to individuals and small business alike.

Hybrid Cars

Hybrid Cars are something that all of us should be looking into these days, what with all of our energy concerns, and rightfully so.  There are plenty of Hybrid Vehicles to be found, and the Internet of course can be a valuable tool in finding a Hybrid Car that will help in this energy crisis that just isn’t going to go away any time soon, I fear.

Just by using the World Wide Web to locate any type of product is saving gasoline, although computers do rely on electricity and/or batteries, right now the price is right for that privilege, but of course nothing is coming cheap these days.

I’m a strong believer that we all need to do our part in going GREEN and do everything that we can do on a daily basis to help save this earth, it is the only one that we have. I’m thinking that my next vehicle will be a Hybrid and it looks like I have some researching to do on that subject, I’m just thankful that I am connected to the informational highway with my good old Dell laptop.

When President’s Lie

I have always enjoyed reading, I can’t remember ever there being a time in my life, that I didn’t have at least one book that was holding my attention and I find that I’m usually in the middle of reading several books at a time, I read depending on my mood.

I am very interested in early American history and have many a bookcases overflowing with books on this subject, and I am very proud of some of these treasurers, and am always looking for new ones to add to my growing collection.

I picked up a book by the name of “When President’s Lie” which is a History of Official Deception and It’s Consequences, by Eric Alterman, which is a little bit off of the beaten path of what I usually find myself interested in, but a buddy of mine read it and was talking so highly of it, that when I saw it at the Dollar Store for only $1, I decided to give it a try. I hope that I won’t be disappointed, I’ll let you know what I think of it in a week or so.

Asia is facing hard times

As if the cyclone Nargis hitting Myamar wasn’t grief enough for Asia, now a huge earthquake hit China!  Seems as if Mother Nature is conducting a large scale massacre out there!  I was reading that some people think that the tragedy has been worsened emotionally because of the policy of each family only being allowed to have one child, but I am wondering if each family had been allowed more children, if the death toll would have been higher!

Something to ponder over and discuss with other folks.
