Garden

Living in the city of Nashville, I do not have a large space for a garden but I still want to have some fresh vegetables available to me. I have planted a couple of tomato plants in pots and some pepper plants in a couple of planter boxes just to have some produce available to me. My tomato plants are blooming and are growing rapidly. Just being able to grow a little garden is a great way to enjoy life and spend some time in the yard that I would not get to do with-out my little garden.

Rain storm coming in

What a difference from the sunny weather with warm temperatures we have had lately. The clouds are coming in fast, and despite of the forecasters saying that today was going to be sunny and the high of 80 degrees this afternoon, I think they screwed up a bit. I’m watching my barometer drop significantly, and even the air feels and smells like a storm is coming in, not just a small bit of rain.

I sort of catch a grin from the guys who are forecasting our local weather. While watching the news this afternoon, one could actually see the uncertainty in their faces, as the weather map says no rain and yet, the cloud system outside indicates other wise.

The only thing I fret about, is perhaps a tornado being blown in. It used to be that we had “seasons” for the destructive weather of this nature. Now, like the general weather, it’s anyone’s guess what is going to happen weather wise, from day to day. I’ll make the most of the rain though, as I have a feeling we are going to need it. I have rain barrels which after last years drought, I’m happy I bought.

Seed shopping

Today it seemed almost like Spring outside. I even went out for awhile in just a sweatshirt and for me, that is saying a lot, considering I am always cold unless it is in the heat of the deep summer. After I had been outside for awhile, I went with my husband to do errands and drop some papers off to my doctor that needed to be signed. While we were running errands, and because it felt so good to be out and about without my neck and back hurting so much, I went to Dollar General store. I only needed a wash bucket and old style mop. But I couldn’t help looking at all the garden items they had.

Bless my husband’s heart. He is not a patient person when it comes to waiting for me to shop. He is the kind of person who goes into the store, gets what he wants and needs and leaves. Takes all of maybe ten minutes and that is pushing it. Today he was patient, since he has been at me to get outside or do something so I’m won’t become a hermit. (His words)

I found a HUGH display of seeds that were 3 for 1.00. In the past…a few years ago, I used to get them there 10 or 1.00. They always came up, and the herbs, veggies and flowers were hardy and grew very well. What a jump in price, though. Goes to show what this world is coming to. Not only is it hard to buy groceries at the supermarket and afford to feed our family a healthy meal, but it’s getting to the point of even growing our own produce and feeding our livestock, is hard and expensive. It really is distressing. I try to save all my seeds from what I grow, but sometimes it’s just not enough. Have to keep on going on though.

Hugs are awesome

>I’ve always thought that hugs are the mainstays of feeling loved, needed and cared for. There are so many different kinds of hugs, but the best are those that are sincere and tight. Not the pat, pat, on the back then quick break away hugs. Or the ones that are half hugs. Tight mean it hugs are awesome. I needed a hug today, and when my daughter got home she automatically came to me and pulled me out of my chair. She said, “You need a hug, Mom.” Then she gave me the biggest tightest hug. It did make me feel better, I admit. It’s amazing how she knows when I need a hug and gives it just at the right time.
