My sister is starting up a small sandwich and salad shop and she wanted me to help her have the perfect business sign made up. She actually is the artist in the family, but she really doesn’t use her talents anymore, unless it’s doodling on a piece of scrap paper while she’s keeping our rummy scores. Burns and scalds
Most commonly, burns are caused by heat, although chemical burns can also happen. If you are treating a chemical burn you should wear gloves to protect yourself. Rinse the burn with cold running water, and – if you know – tell the doctors or paramedics what it was that caused the burn.
For burns caused by heat, you should also run the affected area under cold water. You should never apply cream or lotion to burned skin, but something like a sterile dressing, or cling film, can be used to cover the area if necessary.
Bleeding
The NHS website points out that the aim of treating a bleeding wound is to prevent further bleeding and shock. There are a great number of injuries which may lead to blood loss, and not all of them can be treated in the same way. The important thing to remember is to protect your patient – and yourself – from further harm.
When treating a bleeding wound, wear gloves to prevent infection. Applying pressure and raising the area of the body that is wounded will both help to stem the bleeding. Care must be taken if there are any broken bones, or foreign objects in the wound.
Broken bones and fractures
If you are not a health care professional it can be difficult to know whether an injury has broken a bone – if in doubt, treat it as such. It is always better to be cautious. Depending on the extent of the injury, you may be able to take the patient to hospital yourself, but if the patient has a broken leg, or back, you must keep them still and wait for an ambulance.
Heart attack and stroke
The most common sign of a heart attack is chest pain. It often feels like a tight, or squeezing sensation. In some people the pain can also appear in the abdomen or arms.
If you suspect someone is having a heart attack, dial 999 immediately.
The NHS have publicised how to act FAST if someone is having a stroke. Is their Face showing signs of weakness? Do they have weakness in one Arm? Can they Speak clearly, and understand you? You may not have a lot of Time, so call 999 immediately.

Waking up this morning, I literally was shivering and had to turn on the furnace to get the chill out of the air. Looking out the back yard, I could see what I thought was frost on the grass. With the fall, come my favorite holiday, Halloween! The stores aren’t wasting any time getting the Halloween displays out either. They started that last month. There is even a Halloween store that opened up in town before the kids were back in school.
Time to start my projects! I should have started on costumes a long time ago, instead of figuring I had more than enough time. I’m mainly sticking to making masks and a costume or two for those who have already commissioned me. So much to do and so little time.
When my daughter told me that she and her boyfriend were going to rent a house in FL, but that it needed a good cleaning and she was going to hire a House Cleaning Service Miami FL, to first come in and clean the house they want to move into. I think this is a great idea, considering the fact that my youngest daughter used to be quite tidy and neat until she met her boyfriend. Keeping the house clean on the other hand after they move in, will no doubt be a problem for them. I suggested that they hire a maid service from the same company and that way, they would not have to worry about the cleaning too much. I know both of them are working hard and going to collage also, so there really isn’t much time to actually keep the house clean. A maid to come in once a week, would be totally ideal for them.
In the mean time, just in case…I’m going to box up some new cleaning supplies, a dust pan and items like that, then send it out to my daughter. Who knows? She may use it all one day!
There is a new neighbor down the street. She is close to my oldest daughter’s age…35 or so. At first visits from her were short and I could tell she just wanted to get out of the house. But now, after only about one month of these frequent visits, when she comes over, it’s usually to borrow something. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind sharing if I have it. But now I’m realizing that she has items of mine that she hasn’t brought back. I don’t like this.
Yes, I am rather forgetful at times. That is just me. Age contributes a bit to it also, I suppose. But this young woman should remember that I did tell her, “When you are done, I need it back”.
When she visits chats away, but I work from home and it’s hard to concentrate if I’m in the middle of work with the chatter. She obviously sees that I’m working. I’ve even bluntly took her that I’m working and have a deadline. SO, it looks like I’m going to have to be a bit more hard core about this. My friend Lindsay is going through the same thing with a neighbor who lives on her road. I can at least have someone to commiserate with. SMH!
I do NOT condone drinking and driving in any way, but my nephew Scott went to a wedding in PA and from the pictures and description of the reception, a lot of wine, champagne and beer was flowing. Normally if my nephew drinks he makes sure he has a designated driver. He now is in need of a Drunk Driving Attorney in Pittsburgh PA. From the report and he only blew only one point over the legal limit after having two drinks…which had to be really loaded up drinks and now he would like to get a lawyer who specializes in drunk driving. He passed the sobriety test but not the breathalyzer.
Scott did admit to being at the wedding and also having two drinks and thinks that the breathalyzer test was inaccurate, hence getting a good attorney. The catering company bartender will even testify on his behalf, but Scott didn’t want to get a public defender since he is not from PA.
I suggested that he go online and read the Attorney’s Profile and also look into the firm. I think he can find just what he is looking for, if he does this. His work depends on him driving and this could really hurt him financially. He would rather have one of the best in the field than someone who could care less about the outcome.
Once I got the nerve up to climb a ladder, since I am not afraid of heights but do have the terrible fear of falling if that makes sense, I was in total disbelief how the porch roof looked. I cleaned the gutters and eaves troughs, but there were shingles that had blown off during the winter and I do need to get a roofer out here to fix it.
I have a dear friend I’ve known since my early teens who is a roofer and he really knows his stuff. My husband who passed away at a young age was a roofer and siding contractor. He taught my a lot, but this job I can’t do myself because of the falling fear factor.
I’m sure my friend will give me a good deal, as he is actually considered family and comes to all our family get together’s. I’ll barter with him and cook for him, since he is a bachelor! He loves my cooking, so it’s a win win situation as long as I buy the materials!
Usually people I know are looking for homes to buy or rent, but my friend Michael is looking for help with Real Estate Hamptons NY to rent or sell his home, so he can move closer to his family in Ohio. It leaves peace of mind that they are experienced in dealing with homes in the Hamptons NY and that if he chooses, my friend can leave his home to renters while he is living out of state. I know of course that he would make annual visits to his place to check on it, but while he is gone, this would be taken care of.
