Nice, but expensive

One of the things that I don’t enjoy about shopping with Chuck is that he likes to window shop a lot more than I enjoy it. I prefer to prepare a list of what I need to buy, go to the store, get in, grab what I need to get, pay for it, and get out again. I don’t enjoy lingering and longing for things that I can’t have. The last time I went shopping with Chuck, he told me that he only needed to buy some new guitar picks, but he ended up spending over an hour “window shopping” at the store, checking out the new shipment of high end acoustic guitars. Yes, they are very nice, but they are also very expensive, and I’d rather not waste my time pining over things that I can’t afford to buy!

Christmas Carols Already

This morning I got into my truck and clicked on my favorite radio station, fully expecting my country music to surround me, since it was a country music kinda day, right? *deep sigh* Not to happen. Out of my speakers came not only Christmas music, but the one song I can not stand!!! Something about a kids mom making out with Santa. Okay…push buttons to find something not Christmas, since it’s not even that close to Thanksgiving and a few days ago, I was still taking off Halloween make up that sort of stained my neck. The only station I could find was the one my guys listen to and play with their band. Since I can’t understand the vocals of Death Metal, for all I know, the songs could have been Christmas themed also.

I really dislike retailers and such pushing Christmas on me if I just got over Halloween, and have yet to start my lists for Thanksgiving dinner. It is one of my peeves, I don’t like to be rushed to do anything.

I got out of the truck, went into the house and grabbed a CD off the music shelf. Can’t win for loosing, since I had grabbed Christmas with Harry Belafonte.

Picnic and Fireworks

Independence Day is one of my favorite holidays because the family always goes down to the elementary school for the town celebration. The fire department sells grilled chicken dinner with potato chips, corn on the cob and cole slaw, there are several local bands playing music to provide entertainment, and when it gets dark the fire department sets off a pretty decent fireworks show. We get to see some of our friends that we haven’t seen in a while, spread a blanket out on the lawn and enjoy the nice weather.

A guitar with three necks

I was watching a YouTube video a few minutes ago featuring a performance on a guitar that has three necks. The musician playing the guitar is a man named steve vai. I hate to admit that I have fallen “behind the times” when it comes to recognizing the names of the current names of younger musicians and bands – I guess that is the price you pay when you are working full time, (with overtime) taking college courses at night, and raising kids, too! Anyway, I was surprised to see a guitar with three necks! The musician sure seemed talented! I had to wonder if he ever watched himself on video after he plays – he was making some really funny facial expressions that made me laugh! I wonder if he does that on purpose.

Looking for a You Tube review

I don’t know about you, but I’ve learned to rely on YouTube for product reviews on several things. Music instruments, for example. I will watch several YouTube videos about a product before deciding whether or not a product might be worth purchasing. Often the video demonstrates the product. So when Bob was telling me that he was thinking about buying a squier acoustic guitar for Jason, I went to YouTube to check out the reviews on the guitar. The only YouTube video I could find about that exact guitar was in Spanish. That was disappointing to me. The title of the video was in English, so I was expecting the guy doing the review to be speaking English.

A five string guitar?

I have never heard of, or seen, a jackson bass guitar before I watched this YouTube video a few moments ago. I was really surprised to learn that the guitar in the video has five strings! I was pretty sure that guitars had either four or six strings before I watched the video. I even went onto Wikipedia just now and typed in how many strings does a guitar have, and their definition does not include five strings! How very interesting!

Elvis Presley is and always will be the King

It took me a while to warm up to Elvis Presley. C’mon I’m just being honest. When I was younger I felt like I couldn’t fully embrace him because he was from my parents generation. Well it didn’t take long for the music to take a hold of me after my parents constantly played it on the old turntable. And the more I learned about Elvis and what he accomplished coming from nothing the more I started to dig him as a persona and more importantly his music.

Presley’s rise to national attention came in 1956 and as soon as he popped up he transformed the field of popular music and had a huge effect on the broader scope of popular culture. As the catalyst for the cultural revolution that was rock and roll, he was central not only to defining it as a musical genre but in making it a touchstone of youth culture and rebellious attitude. I can remember hearing about his appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show and the camera would only show Elvis from the waist up because the censors considered his dancing to be too wild.

Elvis was notorious for giving credit for his musical influence to many black rock and roll and jazz performers before him. And rock and roll’s occupation of a central position in mainstream American culture facilitated a new acceptance and appreciation of black culture because of Elvis’s music. Little Richard even said famously that “He was an integrator. Elvis was a blessing. They wouldn’t let black music through. He opened the door for black music.” His music and his personality, fusing the styles of white country and black rhythm and blues, permanently changed the face of American popular culture. And in my option, like him or not, that makes Elvis Presley pretty darned rock and roll.

The gift of a Wedding DJ in Miami FL

My favorite niece is getting married at the end of summer and my oldest daughter who is very close to her cousin and I wanted to give a special wedding gift to the couple. We’ve been checking out Wedding DJ Miami FL and seem to have come up with the perfect gift. Both my niece and her soon to be husband are really into music of all kinds and since they were worried about what they would do for entertainment, since they are on a tight budget, my daughter and I wanted to help out any way we could. This seems like a special and logical gift for them.

After we looked at various sites and one we came across had the best services we had seen up to date, which included DJ Wedding Reception Packages. I liked that idea. We can put the music into the hands of the DJ and not worry about all the planning and the headache of making sure everything went smoothly. With the package, the DJ will put it all together according to what kind of music the couple want to have playing at the reception. Also lighting and the other extras that make a reception special would be included in the package. Can’t go wrong with that!

I think that the gift of music is something that I would like, and my daughter agreed that she would have liked the options a DJ can work with. I have a feeling that we are going to save a lot of time, money and also stress by hiring a professional that knows what they are doing.  There are a whole lot of options to choose from with these packages, and now all we have to decide which ones we know the couple would like!
