Trendy Jewelry

I don’t know about you, but I am a big fan of inexpensive and trendy jewelry. I love things like monogram rings, and flashy necklaces that have your name on it. One of the reasons, I think, that I like customized jewelry with my name or initials on it is because that makes it less likely for one of my friends or relatives to borrow it!

You may think that is a horrible thing to say, and I might actually feel guilty saying it, but, let me explain. Over the years, many of my friends, and relatives, have borrowed things of mine and never returned them. At some point in time, I sometimes ask for the item back, because I want to use it myself. The majority of the time, they have forgotten that they borrowed it from me, and deny having it! This has led to hurt feelings, and damaged relationships beyond repair, which is very sad.

So, now, I try to purchase inexpensive (but trendy) jewelry items to wear “out in public.” That way, when one of my friends or relatives admires it, I will thank them. If they ask me where I got it, and how much it cost, I will boast about what a bargain it was, that it cost less than a certain amount of money, and they usually lose interest in it after that!

You know, thinking about it, I could probably start wearing my “good” jewelry out in public again (it has been about six years) and deploy the same tactic – claiming that it is cheap costume jewelry, even if it isn’t!

Be Careful With Aspirin

I bet most families have a bottle of aspirin in their house somewhere. I know a lot of people prefer other pain relievers, like Advil or Tylenol, but I still think that people keep a little bottle of aspirin in their medicine cabinet. It’s a carryover from the old days when there were not many alternatives.

One of the problems with aspirin is that it thins your blood. So if you are taking aspirin for a toothache and then the dentist has to pull the tooth, sometimes he can’t do it right away because of the risk of excessive bleeding. This happened to a friend of mine. If he had not been taking aspirin for several days before seeing the dentist, he could have had the tooth pulled and on the road to recovery. But since he had taken so much, the dentist sent him home for 4 more days of pain AND orders to not take any pain relievers. Then he went back and got the tooth pulled. That was a long painful ordeal and I did not know that aspirin would have contributed to the problem.

Going swimming

A good friend of mine has invited all of us to go swimming at her house. I’ve been cooking some things to take and am looking forward to going. Pat, my friend works a lot of hours and we don’t seem to be able to hook up and hang out as much as we used to. I’ll be great to spend time with her, her kids and her grand kids also. I haven’t seen her newest little grand-daughter and it’ll be nice to hold a baby for a bit. AND, I can give the little one back to her mother when I get enough of my “baby fix”. LOL!

Baby shower

A very close friend of mine has a daughter that is about to have a baby and we mothers got together and threw her a baby shower. She got some really nice gifts for her baby which is due next week. She is going to have a baby girl and has decided to name her Savannah, that is a very old fashioned named for these times but I really like it. I hope if she has another child she does not name it Dallas or Tulsa.
