My daughter’s move

A year ago, my youngest daughter moved to Florida and got a really great job. Now she and her boyfriend are looking for a place to either buy or rent. It’s a strange thing to put my head around, that my “little girl” will have a home other than where I am. Or even close to us. But, they are looking for property and to me…it’s bittersweet.

I’ve been slowly filling her cedar chest, (Something I gave all of my kids) with items that are for the home that she wouldn’t think of to buy. Items that she will need in her own home, from dishtowels, to a can opener and other useful things. I’ll have to drive to Fla. to give the chest to her when the time comes.

I have to say, I really miss my kid. She and I are really close and I talk to her on the telephone at least twice a day. I still miss our time together. I hope she and her boyfriend will find a nice place and after that, I’ll take a road trip  to deliver her “Hope Chest” and see the place they move into. It’s still hard to realize my little girl is all grown up.

Additions to the family again

We now have two more furry additions to the family. My daughter’s cat had kittens sometime ago and despite having plenty or room at her house, her husband told her she had to find the kittens homes since they already have four dogs and three cats. So, she got me in a good moment and begged me to take two of the semi grown kittens that she hadn’t found a home for.

I have a preference and only have black cats. Both of the kittens she wanted me to take are black and since she did get me in sucker mood, I agreed that I would take them as long as she bought the cat food for them. She agreed to it right away and so now will be bringing the kitten/cats over tomorrow.

I figure since they are already used to being outside, they can be outside cats here. My daughter told me that they are already hunting mice and bringing them to her as little presents, so with the mill just down the road a bit at least two more cats will keep the mouse population down. She hasn’t named the two of them yet since she didn’t want to get attached and so it might be fun getting to know their personalities and naming them accordingly.

Daughter returns tomorrow

My youngest daughter is flying in from Florida tomorrow and I’m so excited I can’t stand it. I haven’t seen her since Christmas and tomorrow not only is she coming home to stay for nearly a month, it is also her 20th birthday.

I am picking her up at the airport tomorrow morning and at first I had no idea she would be coming home. I thought she would wait until Christmas. Her dad and her brothers kept it a secret from me for over a month, since she asked them to. I’d start getting crybaby about missing her and they would not say a word. BUT my daughter we call Vine, can not keep a secret. I was sobby about it one day a few weeks ago and she told me I’d see her on her birthday!

My grand daughter is the only person Vine really wanted us not to tell, since they are really close, and my grand daughter misses her aunt and is going to be so happy to see her. It will be a happy day!

Months are flying by

It seems like it was December just yesterday and I was shopping for Christmas gifts. Now we are about to welcome in June and my goodness the months seem to be flying by. My youngest daughter will be coming home for her birthday on the 26th and will stay for a month before she has to leave and go back to Florida and work. I’m glad she was able to take the time off and it will be so great seeing her and hugging her, hanging out and just having her around again.

As I welcome in June, I’ve noticed that all the flower seeds and other plants I put in the ground after Mother’s Day are coming up nicely and the annuals I have are in full bloom! Yes, its starting to look like a garden again!

I have a lot of home improvement projects going on also. From flag stone for the patio, to new flooring in the living room and bathroom. Also the job of finishing the living room paint job and buying new curtains and adding some decor that matches the whole thing. It’s been a busy few months but worth it!

Ripped pool liner

While getting ready to open the pool, everything was nearly done but once it started filling with water I realized that the liner had a tear in it and I was loosing water faster than I could ever have imagined once the water got nearly three feet deep. I had once heck of a time draining the  pool and trying to find the leak. And standing in ice cold water up to my knees as it drained made my legs numb.

I was about ready to hang up this project and save it for another day, when my daughter called. She was using a service to open her pool, and since her husband is friends with the guy doing it, she said she was sending a pro to me!

The liner wasn’t as bad as I thought and the guy who came out, had some super good stuff to patch it up. He said it would last though the summer and even gave a guarantee, which surprised me. Now I hope that the ground will absorb all the water that leaked out, and it’s not so marshy out in the back yard. Still…I’m so happy I have a thoughtful daughter who’s husband knows people!

Wanting to be independent

Title is exactly what my dear friend Lindsay and I are going though with our daughters. They will be leaving very early in the morning. My daughter’s flight is at 6:00 am, but it’s a two hour drive to the airport. Lindsay’s daughter’s flight is about the same time and it takes her two hours to get to the airport if not a bit longer.

Our daughters want to be independent yet we get two or more calls a day. I cherish those calls as it means that she misses me and misses being home. But going so darn far away really messes me up. Almost every blogging pal or “real life” friends  know that I want my kids close. I don’t consider this being over protective. I think one day that we are going to have to depend on  family and close friends sticking together because we will need to .

I wish both of our young ladies a dream come true, a prosperous life to come and  also the knowledge they will always have a home to come home to.

My daughter would love these

My oldest daughter would love these. She collects giraffes and has since she was a very young kid. She was fascinated with them even when she was a baby. I posted them to her and told her I wanted to get these for her, and she loved them. I indeed might try to find out who makes these. I found this on an actual shoe site, and then someone emailed me a bunch of photos that these famous shoe designers had made. Some were quite bizarre, but others were very cool!
