Social Media Site Fanatic

I’ve been using Facebook for a long time and it helps to keep track of the great folks I’ve met online and also to socialize with family members who I rarely get to see, as we are scattered all over the United States and Europe. I do believe however, that I created a FB fanatic when I taught my sister how to use the site. I had to also walk her though how to use her brand new little lap top, and I don’t think she has been off it since she got it and I helped her set it up. Kicker is, I only know the basics but it was enough for her to start hitting the various social media sites and loving them. Now I have to start thinking about things we can do together so she will not let the computer consume so much of her time. I’m seriously thinking that it’s time to take a road cruise and see where it takes us, like we used to do.

Yep, I’m going to be working on this since my dear sister needs to get a non computerized life! LOL!

Vacation and no internet service

Usually when I take a vacation, it’s on the weekend, but I decide to take a few days during the week and go to some flea markets in Indiana. It was a great ride, and I loved taking in the scenery, but it’s so darn dry in that state from lack of rain…like most places I’ve visited that everything looked very dry.

I decided to take my lap top and at the little motel I stayed at advertised that they had free internet service, but they didn’t. Or, there was something wrong with the connection. I’m will however never stay at this particular motel again.

The owner or manager of the motel was not helpful at all, and actually acted like he had never heard of the internet or for that matter, computers in general. Even at the desk, everything was done by hand in a log. Guess I was sort of roughing it, but it was kind of relaxing and they had a pool.

A corkboard wall

After realizing that the large cork board that is hanging next to my desk isn’t big enough for any kind of organization near my computer and telephone. I think I might want to cover this wall in cork board. I’m unsure just yet though.

When my oldest daughter was a teenager, I hung the self adhesive kind and discovered that the only problem with her cork board that I put up, was that it was totally impossible to take it off the wall easily. Okay, I’ll admit to being “kind” about saying easily. I had to use a chisel and even then, bits and pieces were left. I ended up sanding the part of the wall that I had covered. It only was a 3’x3′ patch of wall, but it seemed a whole lot bigger than that while trying to get all the cork off the wall.

I can’t remember where I saw it recently, but there is a new kind of cork board that won’t hurt the walls once it is time to remove it. If I can figure out where I saw it, I’m gong to by it for this 3ft. wall beside my desk. It will make my life much easier.

Computer and server problems

A few days ago, my PC crashed. It needs something called a video adapter. I’m bummed out. I love my old “buddy.” I knew how it worked, and it’s quirks. Also it’s temperament. Believe me when I say my Buddy was temperamental.

Using my laptop is a problem for me, as it makes my neck hurt very badly. I can’t sit at my desk and type even with my chair adjusted as I’m still too short and have to raise my arms up higher and lower my head, which puts pressure in my neck and back. SMH. The keys aren’t raised and it cuts down my typing time, trying to get used to it. I find my keys are too close together for me. Not to toot my own horn, I’m a very fast typist when I’m not in a hurry to do what I have to do.

With computer problems, I got hit again…double wammie. My server is upgrading or some such thing, and I keep timing out in my page and other things dealing with the server, plus I keep loosing internet for hours at a time. I called and tried to be nice to the woman who angered the call. After she got snitty with me, I told her that wanted to talk to her supervisor. Once on the phone, I told him exactly what the woman had said and how she treated me, yet I am paying her salary. (Not good for her, considering the conversation is monitored and can be played back) I told the supervisor my problem that has been happening for a few days now, and also said I refused to pay for the down time, as I was loosing work. He told me that my bill will be adjusted. ( Yeah right, and the check is in the mail…) They have told me this before. I did however record the conversation this time and what he told me. We’ll see if he lied when the bill comes next week.

Router cords and computer stuff

While I’m blogging and also working on my computer, my son needed to run a long ethernet cord from my office to his bedroom, because he needs internet access to activate Windows 7. In other words…he doesn’t have a long enough cord to reach from the office router to the bedroom, so he is using two routers all together to connect the computer in his room to the internet.

Actually that sounded pretty good for a person who is totally techno challenged, didn’t it? LOL! Okay, my son told me what he was doing, since there are now cords looped all over my computer desk and the other desk I have in the room, as well as an antique barrel that I use as a plant stand, then across the floor, out the door, into the kitchen and into is bedroom. Say that all in one breath!

While I was writing a different blog post, I was into my zone and didn’t notice anything he was doing until I finished and got up to get a cup of tea. I tripped over a cord he was laying out. My son the computer whiz, actually can catch a person really well. All the time apologizing, explaining and smiling since he had found a way to do what he had to do and also caught me from falling on my face. My fault…he had been telling me what he was doing and I actually didn’t care at the moment, since I was in writing mode. He helps me all the time with my computers and the upkeep…I don’t care if cords are all over for a little while. Maybe he’ll find a way to put Windows whatever on my old faithful!

Kids and X-boxes

My son’s X-box did something they call, red ring. Now, I’m not exactly sure what that means, but I know it’s not good. In fact, my youngest son is very bummed out about it. Oldest son fixed it today, and it was working fine, the it did the red ring thing again.

Youngest son has asked me about ten times now, when his brother will be home. Shoot…I don’t know. I just know that youngest son is bored, and I also know that he spent entirely too much time on that game box.

I will indeed admit he is very good at the games he plays, and has been written about in games magazines. But when that is just about all he does when he gets home from school, I have to admit that he needs another hobby. He loves to garden if he can plant in an unusual way. It wouldn’t surprise me though, if he didn’t find a way to incorporate it into the games he plays on the X-box and computer, as well as his other game boxes the two boys have.
