I can’t believe it’s October already. It seems like, with the exception of just a week of hot weather, summer came and went way too fast. I really didn’t do a quarter of the things I would have liked to do, as far as short family vacations to the lake place or pool side cook outs like we normally do. My husband and youngest son are outside right now, taking down the pop up camper we had for the kids to hang out in and sleep here or at the lake house instead of staying inside on warm nights and it seems sort of sad to see it packed down. Hopefully next year we’ll have more time for family camping and outings.
Another Monday
For the last few days we have had some really beautiful weather. A far cry from the rain, wind and cold of last week. This morning I took my dog for a walk and it was nice to smell the fresh morning air and feel the sun on my face. I’ve tried all summer to stay semi out of the sun without having sunblock on, as there is some pigmentation spots that is an inherited condition in our family. Little white spots or blotches. I forget the proper term for it, but it is caused by lots of exposure to the sun, and believe me, I used to be one of those “sun babies” who loved getting tan and indeed I did tan fast. Later on I might go for another walk after supper, and take some pictures. I’m thinking about getting a new camera also.
Misery
I never thought that I would admit this, considering my love for the summer and warm weather. It’s too hot. Terribly hot and all day I have felt sick to my stomach. I’ve been drinking a large amount of Powerade to replenish electrolytes and it has the sodium I need also. I’m to get lab work done tomorrow to make sure my sodium levels are not dropping, or I’ll end up in the hospital with an IV drip. The dogs are miserable and so is everyone else. We need rain badly, and even though storms where in the forecast, there isn’t a could in the sky and even the breeze we do have, feels like an oven being opened after it’s preheated. My husband took two of the kids swimming at my friends. She had called and asked if I wanted to come over earlier, but I felt so sick and puky I didn’t go. From what I’ve seen on the news it’s like this all over. I wish it would rain. It sure would be welcomed.
It’s heating up
It seems the weather is doing some drastic things all over the US. Here it’s starting to heat up and we really need the rain. I’m feeling very sorry for the farmers all over, as first around here it was too wet to get into the fields, so crops were planted late. Now, the corn is “reaching” for rain and it’s sad to see that the crops are not doing well at all. It also makes me really worry about what the prices of groceries are going to be in the year to come. I can’t believe how high prices are now anyway. I’m glad I watched my Mom cook while growing up. She can make something really good out of nothing, as we tell her. 🙂
Prayers for Alabama
All the news today is about the devastation all over Alabama yesterday. Tornadoes hit several populated areas and many people have lost their lives and their homes. I am praying for the good people of Alabama to find the strength to get through this.
Wet plans
With the rain that we have had all day it has made our plans to go and watch the fireworks downtown a no go, I am sure glad that we went to the lake and watched the fireworks at Nashville Shores last night. They are calling for severe storms tonight so I think we will just stay in where it is dry and watch the fireworks on TV, maybe next year we can make it downtown to see the show live and in person.
Rain
We have had so much rain this month they have opened the flood gates at Dale Hollow Lake and those have not been open for 25 years. The lake right by our house is letting out water at an alarming rate and the picnic tables are still flooded. Lets hope we get some warn sunny weather soon or we will be living in a swamp. It has been raining off and on today and we really do not need any more rain.
Early winter
Yesterday Phil the Groundhog saw his shadow and predicted six more weeks of winter and that makes me very angry. Who decides if Phil sees his shadow it is not Phil, he is a big rat and can make no decisions of his own. I think the man who decided owns a snow removal company and needed a few more weeks of work in his business, thats the only thing that makes sense to me. I am so ready for spring it makes me mad to think that we will have to deal with six more weeks of winter.
No school
They have called off school today because it might snow! Not one damn flake has fallen and I am trapped with my kids inside all day. I had to take a sick day at work because on such short notice I could not find anyone to watch the kids. I think the schools should take the parents into their thinking about snow days and keep the kids in the school where they belong during the day. I watch them at night and the school has to watch them during the day, that is our deal and they better stick to it.
July 4th
Every year on the 4th of July we have family and friends over for a huge BBQ and fireworks display. I wish I could take credit for the fireworks display but it put on by the water park across the lake but from our deck we have a wonderful view. This year we are having BBQ ribs and corn on the cob with baked potatoes cooked on the grill. Lots of beer and soda to wash it all down and the party is on. Looks like very good weather this year last year we had some rain kinda messed up the BBQ part of the party but this year looks clear and mild. Thank you Mother Nature.
